  • Welcome to Twin Elm Farms! On this channel we show what its like to farm in southern Manitoba, Canada. The farm consists of Kendal, wife Lindsay their kids Hayley, Parker, Jaxon and Brock. Kendal's older brother Darryl, wife Heather, their kids Mackenzie, Dylan, Quin and Ryenne. With our right hand man Pieter. We have other part time help throughout the season, Arch (combine operator) Terry (field work) and Rob (cattle help). We crop corn, soybeans, wheat, oats and canola. We have a cow/calf operation of mostly Simmental and Shorthorn with some other breeds in the mix. Hope you enjoy our content, please subscribe, give it a thumbs up and love hearing comments.

We finally finished planting last Thursday. There is still a lot of fields that haven't been planted around here. I don't know how much more will get planted because we had a big rain storm this morning about 7:30. We got over an inch so I am really glad we are done. We started planting on April 22nd & didn't finish until June 14th due to all the rain delays. The last time we were down for 3 weeks.

Amity, also known as concord. It's single disc drill.

Shouldn't you have had the field tilled one more time to get all that green weeds out of the ground? It looked like those tiny canola seeds would get crowded out by those weeds. It looked like there were lot of weed patches in the field. Since you are trying to beat the rain, did you think the canola could manage to sprout and get through those green weeds? No one plants that in NY that I know of. Seen Sandy & Mark Brock planting it, & Sandy used a joker to work up their ground to break up soil & weeks. I never heard of a joker, so don't know it looks like or exactly what it does to the ground. Your huge equipment makes what my dad used - look like toys.. That was 60 - 65 years ago. Your fields are as big as entire farms were in Central NY. We were like 5 hours from The Big Apple.

Our heavy land where we seed canola, we can not work in spring. The odd time guys will harrow to dry it out. Canola can come through that.

In the past, there was a number of them, they did an awesome job. Now most farms are running disc drills.
