    Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
    I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
    I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
    I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

    This irrigator is really fascinating and so cool. Congrats on this new investment. I would imagine that since the water is being dropped at ground level and not wetting all the leaves, that your possible foliage diseases should be less, especially since it runs at night.

    In NW Texas we get about 8 to 10 bu per inch of water applied. We get the most at 4,000' altitude because of cooler nights You are using a lot of fuel with 120 psi, we usually have 15-25 psi. That extra 100 psi at 225 gpm takes 100 x 2.31 x 225 x 8.31 / 33,000 = 13 water hp. then that is 17 pump hp. Or 1 1/3 gal of extra diesel per hr for the generator to push the water into the small reel hose.

    Grid power for the pump would definitely be preferable if the power company will cooperate - it will be a lot of hours put on the generator year over year. It could be nice if the machine itself had a turbine that made electricity from the water pressure to not needing the engine running all the time. But realistically not worth it as the generator would be needed when not watering and some buffer batteries would also be needed.

Not suggesting to not plant anything there but cut in half maybe what would that save you in seed cost over the 170 acre field? Keep up the good work and praying for a safe and successful wheat harvest. 👍👏

    Any idea what the water usage difference will be for a year between your old irrigation and the 360 rain? Did you have to do any checks to verify the aquifer can support the usage?
    I've seen this used by livestock producers who will use this to apply manure and also dig an additional holding pond as a water reservoir to apply manure and water at the same time.
    It is neat technology and it will be interesting to see a yield boost, but 24/7 water usage for several months could also have a negative effect on neighboring wells?

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I don't know what the usage difference will be but this is now efficient. The well driller tested the well and there is plenty of water there. More than we thought there would be. It's unlikely to affect anyone's well based on how high the water level is and the minimal drawdown but it's possible and we would take care of that if it happens

      Nathan said in a video some time ago that the 360 Rain was desinged to be like a pivot and stay in the field year round,it does'nt mean that they wont take it home to service or something,but it can stay in the field.

    You will be better off to just use a generator than getting 3 phase power, they will charge you $80 dollars a month if you use the pump or not, plus with it starting and stopping your pump its not efficient so your electric bill will be high

    • @jensageholm8774
      @jensageholm8774 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Are you sure about that conclusion? The only thing that should discourage connection to the grid is high connection cost (like the $250,000 Nathan has mentioned for 3-phase at the home farm). If the pump runs 1,000 hours per year, the usage would be something like 20,000 kWh, which @ $0.2 per would be $4,000 plus around $1,000 if your $80 per month is correct (I do not know US electricity charges). I cannot imagine that $5,000 pays for diesel fuel (around 2,000 gallons?) + depreciation and maintenance of the generator.

      @ljsack29 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jensageholm8774 I am sure about that conclusion cause we have 6 irrigation pivots and I know how much it cost per month when we are using them and when we are not, plus it will probably cost 25k just to get power to the pump, commercial electricity is not cheap

    How many gallons a day are you pumping from the well? Are you required by your state to get a permit for the ground water withdrawal? I’m surprised you weren’t required to do a pump test to determine the ground water drawdown.

      They well driller tested the well. Pumping about 240 gallons a minute almost constantly
