You and alt costume Kage had an intense diving headbutt showdown there. :D I loved this game as a youngin'. I still hold the VF series in higher regard than any other 3D fighting series. VF > Tekken, Soul Calibur, DOA, etc.
I remember how high-tech this seemed back in the mid 90s lol. The machine was the most expensive in the arcade....it was like 6 quarters for a single credit
Love this game brings back so many memories, here's an interesting fact originally Shenmue was going to be called Akira's Quest on the Sega Saturn based off Virtua fighters Akira before they decided to change the name
I remember playing it on my pc as a kid. I wasn't a pro back then but I loved the graphics, the characters and the voice-over. Memories. I only had hard time recalling the name until I found it.
Revolutionary 3D fighting. I STILL prefer this 5th gen polygonal prototype looking graphical style here with beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds than most of the smooth realistic fighters today. 3rd , 4th and 5th gen had more style and creativity using less , and aged better to me. This was once state of the art.
It's a shame the Japanese version suffers from choppy frame rate from being rushed, The pal version runs a lot lot smoother and no jerkyness but runs slightly slower 50hz but Sega did code it to run in full screen for us UK players.
When I played the big screen arcade cabinet on my trip to Las Vegas, I was blown away by the visuals of Virtua Fighter. Though I sucked at the game, I had fun playing it. But man, that game did not age well. Their sequels, including the Remix version are way better. Virtua Fighter has come a long way since then.
I don’t know why I don’t own this game on the Saturn! I personally believe the 32X version is superior but not worth purchasing a 32X over. I love how dated the visuals look, very retro chic.
The 32x version looks nothigg like the arcade version though. The Saturn version glitches a lot but captures the feel and visceral action of the arcade game much better. Just take a look at the 32X version. The visuals don’t glitch, that is true and there are some more play options but it lacks the excitement offered by the Saturn version. Just because the Saturn version has come visual flaws does not mean the 32X version is superior.
I remember seeing this in a shop window when it first came out. It was so far ahead of its time I just stared at it for ages. Then came Tomb Raider and things haven't really progressed a lot from there.
Why the last fight with Dural is not in water? I remember something that I had some problems (as a child) with him/her, but the fight was in slowmotion...
This game is my favorite fighter ever. I would always spam Kage (both in VF and VF2) and I never lost a match in the arcades! Best moves were fwd down fwd+down + C fwd fwd + A+B+C back + B and turn around to follow up with any flip kick and that throw you could only do from behind The 32x version was the best... no loading times and nicer sounding music IMO.
***** the pc version was basically virtua fighter remix it was cool but god if it was awful playing iton a keyboard i didn't know back then that pc gamepads existed
***** yes... but arcade quality sticks costs a fortune i have one but it's good but nowhere near the one that you find in coin ops i could try to mod it the buttons are easy to replace but the joystick it's a pain in the ass
hey! i know this is an old comment, but do you happen to know where i can listen to the soundtrack of this game? I want the song from the "Congratulations" screen so bad :(
The success of Virtua Fighter led to 3D graphics being a main focus on the PS1. Without Virtua Fighter, is 3D graphics still the main focus or will 2D graphics be? Answer by reply.
Well I guess nobody would have known what the end result would have been and eventually someone would have tampered with it, if not virtua fighter than maybe another game would have been made
guys i had game like this on pc - every character was holding weapon, big dude with hammer, police guy with police bet, graphics were like virtual fighter 1 , can you suggest name? thanks
The two I can think of are: Battle Arena Toshinden -there is a character with a hammer called Rungo: battlearenatoshinden.fandom.com/wiki/Rungo_Iron Or maybe Last Bronx? There is a character who uses a hammer in that: sega.fandom.com/wiki/Saburo_Zaimoku
Im looking for a fighting game that was released in the 90's that had a robot with button in its back, that everytime we press pause, the arm of the robot would actually press the button and he would completelly Turn off! Anyone knows this game? I dont remenber
Really funny to see how a 1993 game has facial animation, but most 90s games does not and nobody even tried to justify this baffling situation not even once.
I used to back up to the edge of the ring and use Kage's Ten Foot Toss and throw them out of the ring. The best part of this is if you measure it up correctly they would hit the back of the head on the edge of the ring when they fell out. Kinda like finishing move lol.
Just ordered this version of the game off Amazon I could have ordered the Virtua Fighter remix but I wanted something that looked like more of the original arcade version
is this version worth buying? i like the low polygons though are there any terrible glitches that would make the game bad for some one new to the series?
There are no glitches to my knowledge but you should get virtua fighter remix it's the updated version of vf1 and it fixes some of the problems that the first one had if you are thinking of getting vf1 then it's a good choice.
i dont think this easter egg ever been show online but if you take a copy of virua fighter an put it in a cd player you get this crazy creep werewolf growl

No in the 90's when they had to rely on story, creativity and gameplay to make a game wonderful, not just bash "beautiful" graphics and generic everything else.
4:55 HAHAHAHA headbut dragonballz style everyone is missing the target!!!!
Ahh these were the days when I had absolutely no worries in the world :)
I know what you're saying. They had this at an arcade at the beach when I was a kid...
Same.
So true
I mean life was simple back then
So makes sense I was 3 back then

This game.....ugh! Just hearing the lil chime before selecting characters makes me smile uncontrollably...
You and alt costume Kage had an intense diving headbutt showdown there. :D
I loved this game as a youngin'. I still hold the VF series in higher regard than any other 3D fighting series. VF > Tekken, Soul Calibur, DOA, etc.
The headache that poor Kage must have had afterwards though, OUCH! :D
We dumped so much money into the arcade machines to play this. Great memories. We probably could have bought a console with the quarters.
Still, l think that the graphics look very cool of their day, eventhough its really been that long...
I think regardless of the time, the graphics of Virtua Fighter kick major ass!
Although the graphic looks very dated, the motion design is still one of the best out there
1993 & 1994 were my favorite years in gaming
The nostalgia..it hurts. Parents threw out the Sega a while back. I fear I'll never get to play this again :(
Shane Burchfield you could get the pc version.
Never heard of emulators?
Emulators exist, and maybe those are better, haven't played this game yet.
@@aurelius-sparks saturn emulators are iffy I failed beat dural/final boss and still showed me the congrats screen in vf2
@@doom5895 Oh... Well then, have a nice day!
Oh god! I didn't remember the characters looking so shitty! Oh the memories...
Kage was also my favorite.
***** Virtua Fighter never looked "pretty" to me but polygons were awesome.
***** Yup. Me too.
Polygons in VF 1 sucked, but the game itself was good
Gritty , not shitty ... surely that's what you meant to say !? 😒😊💪✌️
Yo when you played this after nintendo it looked pretty fuckin sick hahaha

That nostalgia, these days, that game
It's was an honor to play this game and live these days and have a good time 🥰🥰
I really love the Backgrounds to Wolf and Durals stages
That is still actually some smooth movement, brings back the memories.
The favorite part was making the character trip and fall over the edge while celebrating victory😂

2:11 LOL hahahaha FAIL
More like 4:55 lol
I don't remember it so.... blocky! :) My eyes must be spoiled by all the fancy graphics today.
They were always blocky, just when you were a kid you thought they were like today's graphics
That games was litereally my childhood. Well it played a big roll ya' know.
Damn. I played it when i was a child on the PC. Good times.
4:55 LOL FAILARMY
Can anyone tell me what Kage is saying during those jumping attacks? You know, like the 4:56 everyone is talking about.
Ignore him, you did good on the gameplay, thanks for uploading!
Always made me laugh how they fell out the ring - sometimes they even slid down the side!
Dural is no joke, son.
First time I played Virtua Fighter on the Sega Saturn!
