What a great idea ! I’m looking up in the TH-cam for any ideas to convert my Ring stick camera battery to an usb charger permanent in an electric outlet. Please let me know if I use a USB through to a power outlet without using its battery or needing to put the battery back together ? Many thanks.
I bought 2 aftermarket Ring solar panels for 20.00 each. They work great. They charge the battery up each morning within a hour.
Where'd you get the solar panels this cheap?!? I like the hard-wired method if you can pull it off.

You said all that I needed, and more. The Ring instructions clearly state you should use a resistor on the door bell adapter so it won't overheat. Does this method for solar require a resistor too? A thought though. Would shielded or non shielded wires make a difference against video interference. Thanks.
No need for dropping resistor, any epoxy should do for adding brackets
Thanks for the video. Super helpful. I need exactly the cable that you showed at 5min 30 second mark. I searched Amazon but can not find any cabled longer than 4 ft. Can you please provide the link to a longer cable? Yours seems to be over 6 foot.
@ fliescamelair. Like he said make your own cable and that way you can have the right length you'll need. Buy the connectors with the ends you need, cut and save the part want. Use any a cable/wire that has at least two wires inside for a positive and negative connection with a good gauge wire and splice. Connect then heat shrink wires together.
Can you tell me whether the inner core or the outer core of the plug is +5V and which is the ground? Thanks in advance.
After it’s powered with the barrel jack, can I remove the battery or does it have to remain in place?

Amazon sells the panels. Make sure the output is 5v and at least 500 milliamperes. You will need to solder two leads to the panel and connect the leads to your wire that goes to the barrel. I bought these originally but decided to use a hard wired power supply.

No. The battery stays in because the device runs from the battery. The external power charges the battery.
With the aftermarket power supplies, did the camera recognise it had been plugged in and offer you the ‘wired mode’ features?
The Ring brand one is 3A, did the 1A cause any issues charging or keeping it running?
No issues with the lower amps. Ring recognizes it as a ring solar device. That is just a software thing. Any external power it will say is a Ring solar device.
Per the Ring website: Output: 5V DC, 2.5A
It's best to exceed rated amps for items. 1 amp would keep even in this use. Much like the 1/2 amp charger that comes with phone. It's only getting a good charge when phone is off!

ever use cat 5, splice, goto a USB hub for upto 50ft?
I recently added a ring outside and used some old phone line for a 15 foot run. It worked. I presume CAT5 would as well. The length up to 50ft would be okay as long as the voltage drop does not impede the intent.
I bought an after-market power adapter from Amazon and the 3rd gen stick-up cam does not recognize it as a hard wire. The cam sees it as a solar power source. If we take out the battery from the cam, the cam won't work. The battery has to be inside the cam. The bottom line is the adapter is not for hardwiring but for allowing us to continuously charge the battery inside the cam. In other words, if the battery is completely drained, plugging in the adapter will not work. We have to take the battery out and charge it with the USB cable to a full charge or some levels of charge. Then put the battery back into the cam and plug in the adapter. The adapter will keep the battery charged but not in a hard-wired mode. When the cam is not in a hard-wired mode, the motion sensor is not working at its best. The cam often misses out a lot of actions.
FWIW, below is what the Ring website says on the matter. The dual power options appear to vary depending on what Stick Up version you have. So, if you have a Stick up 'Solar' model and you plug in external A/C power, it does not power the device it only charges the battery. OTOH, if you have the 'Battery' model, external A/C power will power the device. (I know--techically it is "DC" to the device, but the power source is A/C.) That's what I get from it anyway. SEE BELOW:

Great video. Not to be mean but I went the 40 dollar route at home Depot for all my solar panels. No holes in the house. And the official panels are better than anything diy. 120 bucks is way cheaper than the hundreds of thousands or millions it will cost you to rebuild your house after your diy hacks catch fire.😂
