  • Revisiting our Bristly ridge ascent with a closer look at Sinister gully.
Great scrambling in Sinister gully as its the toughest grade 1 scramble in Snowdonia rated a grade 1 plus. Sinister is Latin for left, left gully, as Dexter is latin for right, right gully.
Dexter is mostly known to have loose material which makes it more dificult and hazardous.

Hi. Google Maps (sorry I don't think I can provide a screenshot through these comments) suggests a possible bypass to Sinister and Dexter gullies arcing around and up to the right then left to re-join the ridge above the exits of SG/DG. It may be mostly scree, I'm not sure. Do you (or anyone else on here) happen to know of the existence of such a route?

@andrewbishop3036 I know of 2 left versions but not sure about a right hand bypass. The ultimate question would be why bypass all the fun?

@@clogsonthemountain ha, thank you! It was merely a question of options. SG and DG *can* be a little daunting, so was just a way to have means at disposal for alternatives really.
      This might work...

in our day, that was the route to the outhouse, before we got our breakfast of cold gruel, & then making the 3 mile shoeless seal crawl to the workhouse for a twelve hour shift of breaking rocks in the hot sun
