    Instead of using a tooth brush, I used the sonic scrubber with a rubber tip. A lot easier than hand scrubbing. I also used Zep tile cleaner - worked great.

    I am picking up some Grout Renew today from Home Depot for my kitchen counter tile. I think I will have to get something for my floor tile on Amazon. Anyway, thanks for the instruction. I also just ordered (yesterday, before seeing your video) new doors and draw face(s) for my kitchen that look just like your cabinets. Hi. I've actually had a "cleaning the grout" video on my to do list. To maintain the sealer, you want to avoid cleaning the floor with any solvents. I use my steam mop (just hot water, no cleaner) weekly. That mainly keeps the grout looking great. But, about once a year, I gently clean the grout lines in the high traffic areas with a SOFT bristle toothbrush and Dawn dish soap in warm water before using my steam mop. I made this video a couple years ago and the grout still looks beautiful with just that! Just avoid solvents and stiff bristle brushes if you want to preserve the sealer for as long as possible.

    Can I clean the tiles with bleach , scrub and use this after?

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can whiten really gross grout with Grout Renew, but you need to use the recommended grout prep before applying Grout Renew. Not bleach. Bleach can erode your grout and damage the subfloor under the tile. Check out this post for tips on popular cleaners that are bad for grout: www.abbottsathome.com/cleaners-that-damage-grout/

    It seems like keeping a light color grout clean looking tends to be an ongoing problem. We have fairly dark grout in all the rooms except one and I am about to use this method to switch it from beige to a color called Summer Wheat which is pretty dark.

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's true, light grout takes effort to maintain. I used this product on dark grey grout in a bathroom 6 years ago and haven't had to touch it since then. So, if you can use dark grout, it's definitely going to save time in the long run. Good luck with your update. :)

    Acid grout cleaners like grout haze remover are generally the worst product to clean grout. High pH works to clean without erosion of the components that give grout it's strength. Without neutralizing the acid residues the acid will contribute to the failure of the color sealer.

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The very first step on the directions is to use Grout Haze Remover. I'm sure it's to prep the old grout so that the new product can penetrate. This products has held up for years in my house with no sign of problems. 👍

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Definitely, the first time I used it in a bathroom was 5 years ago. I haven't had to touch up that one yet. I did this in the kitchen 3 months ago and it still looks perfect. It'll last a long time. It's more resistant to stains than the original grout. It soaks into the grout pores and creates a protective seal. And, it looks exactly like any other grout. :)

    I did this and my dog wont stop licking the grout now!!! Has anybody else had this issue? If so how do i make him stop it? Ive had to put up gates and keep him outside so he wont do it because as soon as he gets in there its like its crack cocaine to the guy and he will go for hours licking until its not white anymore.. when i go to pull him away telling him no he wines and goes limp like im taking him to the vet.. i also wonder if there are any side effects of pets eating that stuff.. he never did it before... thinking of trying hot sauce but afraid he'll start eating the tile itself then the way its going,. Maybe shock collar.. but itd kill em the way he will not stop... think im going to have to pull up the damn tile.. my luck ill pull it up and there be some kind of edible backer or somebody spilled some honey before they tiled... lol..

    • @AbbottsAtHome
      @AbbottsAtHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. That’s strange. I’ve never heard of that. Have you called the vet? I’ve had friends dogs that just get obsessed with doing weird things like licking and chewing the same thing over and over. Are you using a new scented floor cleaner? The grout might hold onto the scent longer than the tile. Maybe using a cleaner with a smell she doesn’t like will stop this habit. Or just an unscented cleaner. I use a steam mop to clean my tile.
      I had a cat that would go crazy trying to chew on my hair when I used Herbal Essences shampoo. I had to quit using it to get her to stop. 🤷‍♀️

    Be careful with these products because some of them act like an acid on your floor and you can easily "etch" your tile. Once you etch your floor you will have to hire a contractor to buff it out, or you will have to get the sanding discs to buff it out. I do not suggest using vinegar for cleaning unless it is highly diluted because vinegar, even a drop will etch the floor. Just giving people a heads up on this so that you don't damage your tile floors. Use plenty of clean damp cloths when you start, and clean up the area immediately.

      Yes, Karen. As mentioned in the video, you need to make sure to use the cleaner that is approved for your type of tile. The cleaners list the approved types of tile on the back. I do not recommend using vinegar in this video. Thanks!
