The two direction + removable lid part is really nice. I think it's also very cool that you can put boxes on from either direction. They've also gone with a larger base size than most of the other brands, which is an interesting choice. "drawers are in the plans" - they obviously didn't do enough market research if they didn't think of building them and releasing them at the same time. Big pass for me without the drawers, and if they don't release them VERY soon, then they better be at a significantly lower cost otherwise you can say goodbye to this system.
Tipping a packout and rolling it like a hand cart has to be 100% easier than bending over grabbing a handle off the floor and lifting the box up till its at an angle where the weight is over the wheels. This system only behaves well when empty.
Hard to say. If you need to move something over a distance, you will typically want the angle of the handle to be pretty low, with your arm full down at your side, taking all the weight on your shoulder without flexing your arm. That's going to be the least fatigue. With the tall stack style systems, that means your boxes would be over 45 degrees tilted backward from their "natural" position, while with this style of cart (or the similar one Milwaukee has), you are tipping the load no more than 45 degrees. However, the math flips if you need to go up any stairs, or if you are only moving it a short distance or over uneven terrain. In that case, the taller stacks are probably going to make a lot more sense since you will rarely need to lay them so far back, and going up stairs with a long box will result in it going nearly vertical. It really depends on the kind of work you do. I imagine that someone working outdoor doing landscaping and lawn care might like the longer boxes better, while an electrician, or HVAC guy would probably prefer the smaller boxes in a tall stack.
Well in my experience I would have to agree with @Henry_Swanson. I actually have a Craftsman model CMST24800 deep long 24 gal wheeled box that I've modified to attach my Dewalt Toughsystem boxes on top of. I've had and used it for a good 5 years to haul on and off of outdoor jobs everyday. I can tell ya that it is more work to haul it around then the regular Dewalt Toughsystem stack. The only reason I used it for so long is because I really wanted a larger single box to put my daily used cordless power tools and tool belt setup in. I then stack 1 or 2 small and medium tough system boxes on top with batteries and other daily needed tools. I can then open the bottom box with the top boxes on top without unstacking. So it operates very similar to this Makita system. The balance is not great and there is a lot of weight pulling down on your arms if you have anything in the boxes due to the design. Maybe you could stack multiple heavy boxes on the lower part of the Makita big box to help counter balance the weight over the wheels.
Hopefully foam solutions become available soon. A base mount system/solution for the boxes would be great, so you can place them secure in a car or other transportation solutions.
I give the handle on the dollie 2 years before something snaps. I want that system tho it looks 👌. only thing I wanna see is how well it handles in hand
Guys with arthritis will have an issue with the main box laying on the ground. For me, having the main handle on the ground is a deal breaker. And will it pass the vcg toughness tests.
Makita should make a vertical dolly to go downstairs though? And have it with a flat face with a Mac track to do dolly also I don't stick 21 brand I go forever has the best specs and this does look pretty good , Looks like there's a lot of space
Idk who you used as the camera guy, but they need a stern talking to. Anyways, finally makita came out with a modular storage system, I'll be getting rid of my huge gangbox and will be getting this system, I'm glad I waited and never got Milwaukee packout
One for OUR team! Yay Vince!! If only someone goes and makes adaptors for the OTHER guys boxes! Makita tools ROCK, the ONLY guys who honour their UK service+repair commitments (not you, team Red & Yellow!) Great ergonomics; only I'm REALLY bought into Toughsystem and T-Stak! If someone somewhere makes after-market adaptor plates, I just might get into it ;)
Suggestion to Makita. Offer a trade in on this system. The market is flooded with tool storage systems. They may have some great inovations on what they offer, but there are many out there that have invested thousands in a different system. Money is tight these days, Makita needs to keep this in mind. Im team teal and have been for decades, but I use red boxes to store my tools. Id bought Makita boxes yrs ago but they didnt offer the kind of storage I needed.
What if you want to access the bottom box and everything else is full packed We are talking that you are going to lift 20-30kg with one hand would be way better if it was a drawer system. It’s a nope
Holy tool assortment !!! Love that impact driver ❤ only thing is that those backpack blowers are pretty heavy. If they can get it to the 22 to 25lb range.
While I like this system of tool storage, I don’t like the bottom toolbox that you have to bend down to. If they could make it upright like Milwaukee’s toolbox then it would be a home run. They have the best design I think so far.
It was hard to tell in the video but my biggest complaint with my Red box system is that the boxes have to stack exactly. What I mean is if it's a 4 cleat box, it can only hook on to another 4 cleat box. You can’t hook two cleats and have half the box hang off the side. This is especially limiting with the wall plates. Each plate is a separate unit and you can’t join them seamlessly.
It looked to me like we saw a guy at 1:24 pulling a box off of the center of the stack. The clip isn't long enough to be sure it was snapped in at that location, or if he was just testing it, but I think it might have been. If so, that's pretty neat. Though I'm not so sure about doing a half-on-half-off overhang... they probably designed it not to allow for that on purpose honestly.
My only concern with the stack system is the difficulty of pulling it around when loaded with a good bit of weight as it looks like the load cant be balanced over the wheels very well. I actually have a Craftsman model CMST24800 deep long 24 gal wheeled box that I've modified to attach my Dewalt Toughsystem boxes on top of. I've had and used it for a good 5 years to haul on and off of outdoor jobs everyday. I can tell ya that it is more work to haul it around then the regular Dewalt Toughsystem stack due to its load balance issue. The only reason Ive used it for so long is because I really wanted a larger single box to put my daily used cordless power tools and tool belt setup in. I then stack 1 or 2 small and medium tough system boxes on top with batteries in one and other daily needed tools in the other. I can then open the bottom box with the top boxes on top without unstacking. So it operates very similar to this Makita system. When dragging it around the balance is not great and there is a lot of weight pulling down on your arms if you have anything in the boxes due to the design. Maybe you could stack multiple heavy boxes on the lower part of the Makita big box to help counter balance the weight over the wheels. It does look slick though. I just really want to get a look at Toughbuilts transporter system. Hope they stick around and can make there promises a reality. No doubt Makita stuff is solid and those dual battery case chargers are genius. Saves guys from having to custom make those things like peeps have been doing forever.
As the owner of a commercial/industrial service plumbing company, this system does not seem to be a good fit for my company and what we do. We don't go to jobs sites in pick ups. In a lot of places, taking a setup like this into a customer occupied space would not be ideal. Mechanical rooms can be small. If this is put up next to a wall with a couple boxes on top, you need to take the boxes off to open the lid or open the lid from the side that is against the wall Or have the box sitting lengthwise away from the wall making it harder to walk in the space. I have mostly Makita tools and have been waiting for them to come out with a storage system. This is a bummer. It does seem well made. It would have been cool if two wheels could be added and the handle could rotate up so it would maneuver like a 4 wheel hand truck. Also if the box was one big drawer.
I do the exact same thing and all I was hoping for was a good rack system for my van, Ive been lugging tool bags and totes for 20 yrs so that giant thing doesn’t appeal. I run as much Makita as I can but they def don’t cater to the plumbing trade as much as Milwaukee. Great tools and half the reason is I don’t get mine mixed up with the other trades cause everyone else seems to run red around me. Just wish they had a nice set up for the van. I hate noisy metal shelves so just have piles of totes.
I don’t get what they were thinking when they made the base that way. Can’t really stack much on there and requires more effort to lift then roll vs pull and roll
Its not fully made in the USA though its partially. This loophole allows companies to capitalize on the "Made in the USA" branding without fully committing to domestic sourcing.
Of course. I know my brand has been doing it forever. I'm a Dewalt platform guy and even though I know the stickers don't mean it's fully made in the USA I still get a little warm and fuzzy when I can buy something that has at least some USA made pedigree. It's gotta be be solid though. I'm not going to buy junk just cause it says made in the USA.
They need to do 2 things 1.update their battery technology to be competitive with the other major brands 2. Make a box that is upright to stack on rather than horizontal Then maybe they will catch back up
I checked and compared the inner areas of the rolling style box with other brands and the Makita is not great: MakTrak: 5,000 cu in, 250 lb load capacity, weighs 35.8 lbs Packout: 8,085 cu in capacity (35 gallons), 250 lb load capacity, weighs 32 lbs The Maktrak is even smaller than the rolling versastack tote, which is listed as 30 gallons, or 6,930 cubic inches capacity, but with a 110 lb weight limit. The makpak and Packout can hold 250lbs.
The price and size may be more of a deterrent than it being late to market. Makita's system has the largest footprint with no "Packout/Tough System" vertical option and it's more expensive.
need to have a set of wheels on the handle in order to push this all around. lets face it when you load up the coffin with all the other modules this will become heavy . I have the Milwaukee coffin and when loaded up with other modules it becomes very heavy to move., i am Makita all the way and will wait for this to go to market but it would be nice to move my tools in one trip instead of 2 or 3..... My son will inherit the Milwaukee when this is out!!
Milwaukee coming this late to the game was able to let everybody else do product marketing and development and yet they came out with an outdated product with no eye-catching features and the aftermarket that applies to it you figured just put a name on it and people will buy it for more than some of the others that actually have the updated eye catchers
Opening a systainer on the stack works the same way. Good way to crush a finger when everything is loaded…and Milwaukee already has a short and wide (that doesn’t sell well). Complete miss by makita.
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was like locked into cleats on the handle or something, but if it's only hanging off the end of the box that seems... iffy. Not nearly as clever as what I had hoped.
Too easy to buy packout it’s hard not to invest in the giant. It’s everywhere which makes it a better investment. However I still love my flex stack pack more, more stuff exists in packout.
i wont pay 2k for some flippy lids and a hernia lol .. really wish i could like the makita system (cause it matches my company color scheme and my trucks and vans would look sick ) but the horizontal configuration looks back breaking. ill give them props for the flip lids but when i imagine myself lifting the end of that monster long box full of tools into a pick up bed or trying to open a lid with only one full box of tools .. or rolling six boxes (now attached on the side) it makes me shake my head and laugh at executives that fill these boxes with one or two items in design phase...My average box weighs 40-80lbs. you wont see any of these boxes with 5 years use one them because they will all get yard sold after 3 weeks imo and yourll see a bunch of craft fair moms using them for decoupage or something. that lil cooler might look n fit nice in my center console tho... seriously i was watching this hoping to see makita deliver on the paramedic gurney "advanced Transporter" that tough build teased but couldnt deliver... Ridged is my system until someone actually delivers a pick up loading solution ( that doesnt involve me bending down to lever 150lbs+ into a truck bed 4-8 times a day)... till then all these lil variations just arnt enough to warrant a $2000 trade. save my back and ill pay you. till then i hope the few apprentices that are dumb enough to buys these keep you in business long enough to actually meet a real customer. Look makita take a real biz owner who actually built a business that uses tools and offer me $650k year for part time consulting and i promise i can help design a box that pros actually fantasize about... but for christ sake fire the morons who did this.
Their $250 oscillators need work. They break too easily. Had to buy a $90 part to replace the metal tab that broke inside. It’s a nice tool when it works though
As much as I like all the different box systems we now have. Each and every one of them have issues, and that is real-world problems. Almost everyone places their heavy tools in the bottom boxes, and yes, it makes them heavier when lifting or moving. If you try to put a drill or saw in a top box, you have little or no room for anything else. I do like the handle for using as a way to load and unload in the back of a pickup, but it still doesn't solve the weight issues with all of them. Nonetheless, each system has its merits.
Just a couple things with all the tools you have I would prefer you to stack those full of tools and move it around I would really like you to see to go up the staircase it seems like all your pliers screwdrivers and wrenches will get all mixed up because you're tilting it a different angles and now that you broke it down you have all those boxes in the back of your truck sliding around not good and there's no locking Wheels what is the weight this thing can hold and personally I would rather take a sliding drawer than a hinged lid so I think you're wrong when you say there's no boxes out there that you have to take apart because the mod box currently has drawers on the bottom which you don't need to disassemble to get to the bottom box because they have drawers don't get me wrong I'm a Makita fan put some tools in it go up and down some staircases and load it and unload it from your truck if you're going to do a review can we take it to the next level
I don't own any Makita tools but they seem to be making a comeback. They definitely lost the market share with waiting 8 yrs to come out with a storage system
why would you still invest in modular storage boxes without drawers. you still have to take every box of, to get to your tools, fixings, parts, ... with this system you stil take up way to much room on the jobsite. make a rolling toolbox with one big drawer, and stack boxes with drawers on top. that way you reduce youre foottrip on the jobsite and can acces everything without being surrounded by boxes.
It is NOT a bad idea but it ignores the fact that loaded up with tools, that lifting idea will make zero sense. Plus, if you drop the handle on packout, you can sort of do something similar. I have and it's really awkward to do it. Then there is Physics. Loaded up, that's going to potentially topple over. However, I haven't tried it so I'm guessing.
I think there’s a lot of good stuff here but they really pigeon holed their demographic. They were late to the party so they should have executed this launch much better and had solutions that competed with the existing market re: vertical dolly and used the horizontal dolly as their “one more thing” advantage
All makes apart from milwaukee and dewalt tough system have poor boxes, light cheap plastic, not waterproof. These are no different to milwaukee which have been out for few yrs now, so while they look good ect they are really just playing catch-up. Bosch have a new box range coming out next year, by which time everyone will have the new makita boxes or dewalt/milwaukee. Plus, they take roughly 12 to 18 months to late to come on sale in the UK.
After all this time, this is the best they can do. Boxes look cheap and nasty. They are too big for tool trailers. If they consulted people l, where are the adaptors to join to older makpacs, or the opposite way. It will be needed as they are still making and releasing tools with the old makoac system. The vacuums, floor sweepers, mowers, power stations, battery backpacks, and the battery charging cases that were just released at that show. Bloody ridiculous. Makita isn't getting a cent of mine for this garbage. Jokers
Are you kidding me? This horizontal dolly is bad. It’s going to literally break your back when trying to lift it up, especially if it’s loaded with a few boxes. Stupid design
Drawers is ALL that matters. When they are full, even if you are able to easily lift them, the weight will be shifted and it will tip over. You almost had me makita
Yeah, I think it was a huge misstep for them to launch this without drawers. Every single tool company launches a system, and people immediately beg them for drawers. Why would they not take note of that? I wonder if they can pull off a drawer system that can be pulled out in either direction... that would be incredibly cool.
I agree that If they had just engineered a single rolling box drawer for this system at launch they would have had something. Probably would even have been attractive enough to get a lot of people to switch box platforms amd then ya might have to upgrade to Makita tools as well to match your boxes lol.
Talking about late to the dance, Makita has now come up with a lame horizontal system that looks heavy and hard to move around. Nice try, but NO prize, Makita!
@@dolrr54 idk man this is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. It's beautiful that I can open the boxes without taking down the 5 boxes on top. Drawers would be too small to hold my sds and circ saw etc

Love my milwaukee packout. No reason to change, but these are looking good. Makita makes pretty good stuff
The way Makita guy kept pointing that nail gun towards him, with his finger in the trigger was crazy. The guys should be a lot more careful.
Made in america, addressed aome reason why i did not snag a competitor, well done.
I can’t wait for mine to come in awesome review!
Idk who you used as the camera guy, but they need a stern talking to. Anyways, finally makita came out with a modular storage system, I'll be getting rid of my huge gangbox and will be getting this system, I'm glad I waited and never got Milwaukee packout
The handle into the truck is such a good idea.
I just realized that my Milwaukee box does this.
If someone somewhere makes after-market adaptor plates, I just might get into it ;)
Wonder who might jump on that idea? @jakeofall
Yo Vince! Greets from stormy London - I'm more the humble electronics tech, but maybe i can show you my rig on here sometime?@@VCGConstruction
StackSmarter makes adapters already, once he gets them he will make an adapter, I'm sure of it
Suggestion to Makita.
I am sold. The Klein modbox is cool too, but this is nice. Default case for sds max, make it this kind of box.
@@annquach6613 that is my use case as well. Got an HR4013 that has a massive case that I now can have a modular option for.
What if you want to access the bottom box and everything else is full packed
We are talking that you are going to lift 20-30kg with one hand would be way better if it was a drawer system.
It’s a nope
I mostly use an estate (station wagon) car, packout can be a pain to get into it. But this looks awesome and could just slide on in.
Definitely excited for this, seems like an incredibly designed system. There will always be critics, and drawers are coming.
Holy tool assortment !!! Love that impact driver ❤ only thing is that those backpack blowers are pretty heavy. If they can get it to the 22 to 25lb range.
Is there anyone who would like to lift this fully loaded system on to their trucks daily? What about working indoors? This thing is massive
Innovative looks nice love made in the USA 🇺🇸
Hey Vinny do me a favor how does the Makita kit go up and down stairs on the wheels?
@@Lord_zeel I have a row of wall panels and there is a lot of wasted space because you can’t overlap.
You’re right, it does look like they are overlapped.
I have about 5 or 6 packouts. The roler, a few ammo cases, a crate and others. Im definitely switching just for the color haha
Good points for sure.
2 things I like about this.
1) Most importantly it’s Mad in the USA.
2) This helps to drive innovation.
I like the way you think my friend!
They need to do 2 things
1.update their battery technology to be competitive with the other major brands
2. Make a box that is upright to stack on rather than horizontal
Then maybe they will catch back up
damn.... hat tip to makita!!
*_They might have thought of everything!_*
I still wish I went with Dewalt over packout. This looks much better than both to me but the battery I use drives what the best fit is.
Outdoorsman is right!! it encompasses all!!
I think drawers is the way to go although I love what they finally did I feel they’re late in the game now since they kicked it off with the mak pak
I checked and compared the inner areas of the rolling style box with other brands and the Makita is not great:
MakTrak: 5,000 cu in, 250 lb load capacity, weighs 35.8 lbs
Packout: 8,085 cu in capacity (35 gallons), 250 lb load capacity, weighs 32 lbs
The Maktrak is even smaller than the rolling versastack tote, which is listed as 30 gallons, or 6,930 cubic inches capacity, but with a 110 lb weight limit. The makpak and Packout can hold 250lbs.
Now lets see if all the people complaining about ''nothings made here anymore, everything comes from china, we need mo made in merica'' buy this stuff
Just to get the box to a van/truck without taking everything off is a win in my books
They need 18 volt battery upgrades, do you know if that's coming?
How come no one ever starts with drawers yet it's always what everyone wants?
Thank you sir!
Thank you!
hope they come to the uk
👍 Good job bro.
Thanks ✌
Did they mention when the they’re going to come out with that new impact driver?
I'd prefer a milwaukee style packout from makita don't really care for that big style box
The price and size may be more of a deterrent than it being late to market. Makita's system has the largest footprint with no "Packout/Tough System" vertical option and it's more expensive.
Hope they make a dolly system like the makpaks
need to have a set of wheels on the handle in order to push this all around. lets face it when you load up the coffin with all the other modules this will become heavy . I have the Milwaukee coffin and when loaded up with other modules it becomes very heavy to move., i am Makita all the way and will wait for this to go to market but it would be nice to move my tools in one trip instead of 2 or 3..... My son will inherit the Milwaukee when this is out!!
I have just about every cordless Makita tool.... and it's sitting in a thousand dollars of Packout boxes. RIP
Milwaukee coming this late to the game was able to let everybody else do product marketing and development and yet they came out with an outdated product with no eye-catching features and the aftermarket that applies to it you figured just put a name on it and people will buy it for more than some of the others that actually have the updated eye catchers
Ant wait until someone makes a clip to attach these to the packout
Saying it’s too late is like it is saying it’s too late for a company to release a cordless drill or any other power tool.
A lot of negative Nancy's in the comments. Makita is not forcing you to buy, and if it fits your application, get it.
Nice One Vince 🤭
Thanks Jamal!
Opening a systainer on the stack works the same way. Good way to crush a finger when everything is loaded…and Milwaukee already has a short and wide (that doesn’t sell well). Complete miss by makita.
I don't know about a complete miss but you do make a good point about Milwaukee having that large box that doesn't look like many people buy.
I’m not confident the side box will last long abuse, the connection looks not strong enough to stand big loads.
That’s a fair assessment
i wont pay 2k for some flippy lids and a hernia lol .. really wish i could like the makita system (cause it matches my company color scheme and my trucks and vans would look sick ) but the horizontal configuration looks back breaking. ill give them props for the flip lids but when i imagine myself lifting the end of that monster long box full of tools into a pick up bed or trying to open a lid with only one full box of tools .. or rolling six boxes (now attached on the side) it makes me shake my head and laugh at executives that fill these boxes with one or two items in design phase...My average box weighs 40-80lbs. you wont see any of these boxes with 5 years use one them because they will all get yard sold after 3 weeks imo and yourll see a bunch of craft fair moms using them for decoupage or something. that lil cooler might look n fit nice in my center console tho... seriously i was watching this hoping to see makita deliver on the paramedic gurney "advanced Transporter" that tough build teased but couldnt deliver...
Its too bad I'm already so heavily invested in other platforms
As much as I like all the different box systems we now have. Each and every one of them have issues, and that is real-world problems. Almost everyone places their heavy tools in the bottom boxes, and yes, it makes them heavier when lifting or moving. If you try to put a drill or saw in a top box, you have little or no room for anything else. I do like the handle for using as a way to load and unload in the back of a pickup, but it still doesn't solve the weight issues with all of them. Nonetheless, each system has its merits.
Thats a fair assesment!
MakTrak vs tough built stacktech?
Still metabo>milwaukee>makita>dewalt
This is really the best they could come up with? all other companies are finally dropping the rolling drawer box. Hard pass on this Makita system
Milwaukee who? Flex who? 😂
@@Loucero milwaukee made in china 😂 flex made in germany 👍🏼 makita made in Japan 👌🏽
Dont like the bottom box and handle
Not too late for me wtf, I’m using soft bags
why would you still invest in modular storage boxes without drawers. you still have to take every box of, to get to your tools, fixings, parts, ...
with this system you stil take up way to much room on the jobsite.
make a rolling toolbox with one big drawer, and stack boxes with drawers on top.
that way you reduce youre foottrip on the jobsite and can acces everything without being surrounded by boxes.
And btw. Nobody will be able to tilt that giant stack full of tools to get in bottom one. Not gonna work. Nice try though lol😅
1 Change so You Can FIRE Your Helpers! 🤣🤣
Dang 3 years late to the party. Must have lost all their customers to milwaukee. Nobody uses this garbage 😂
Probably would even have been attractive enough to get a lot of people to switch box platforms amd then ya might have to upgrade to Makita tools as well to match your boxes lol.
fk you makita i wish this came out forever ago i want to buy it sooo bad but i already have sooo much packout sht lol
Lots of people don't have a system yet and always more people getting into the trades so late for you and me but not late for people that don't have a system yet or people that like to spend money
That’s like saying it’s too late for a company to come out with a drill or any other power tool that has been out for years.
@@ElectroG33kHow little do you have in those other five boxes that you can lift it so easily?
Hope you have good health insurance. You're going to need it for your future back problems. 0:32
