    Totally agree man. I bought into the 18v system for makita when I started buying tools for my DIY and hobbies. A few months later they announced 40v, and I had already invested into batteries and tool. So now, even though a 40v would be better for me, I continue to buy 18v/36v tools because I don't want to run 2 systems, and I don't want to replace tools that I bought in the past 2 years!

      same. i'm on the makita platform too. while i do love my tools, and they've never let me down, i'm disappointed at lack of backwards compatibility with their XGT batteries. and they're also lacking in the storage and accessories department, compared to milwaukee. it just seems like milwaukee is constantly expanding their packout line, offering new tools, and their tools are pretty good quality too. idk, maybe makita focuses more on tool durability and refinement, and less on other stuff, but i'd be nice to see them innovate faster and offer a more expansive platform.

    I am so sick of the battery platform headaches. You can't choose tools that do the best job because you have to worry about the batteries. I have Dewalt, Makita and Milwaukee. Of course everyone has their own battery platform and chargers. Why can't I have one Makita charger to cover all the tools? Why can't I inter swap batteries. I feel you Vince. It's called greed. Thanks Vince! I was already aware of the DeWalt power station and the MX inverter. I have been thoroughly disappointed in the fact that Milwaukee has not released an inverter other than the M18 top off which is only 175 Watts so that's not very good and won't power much at all and the MX inverter is just ridiculously expensive to get into because there's nothing else in that lineup that I would want or need. I'm glad that somebody is finally asking all of the questions that I've had for a while because nobody listens to me when I ask those questions

    The new 40/80v batteries won't work on the 18v platform because the electrical hardware isn't rated for what is more than double its ability from the 40/80v battery pack. If you tried to use the 40/80v battery on an 18v platform, you would end up boiling capacitors, blowing fuses and resistors. Basically frying the electrical boards. I suppose if Makita really wanted to make it possible, in my opinion, the 40/80v battery would need a mechanical switch to route it's power through a different circuitry and in the process, make the battery pack almost twice as big. Just as you showed with that DeWalt battery pack at about 8:40.

    So what happens when a worn-out battery and a good battery are used in conjunction while powering a two-battery tool? What happens when two worn-out batteries are used to power the same tool? Maybe that is why Milwaukee chose to create a battery lineup of its own for ‘small equipment’.

Kept it real straight to the point you showed the pros and the cons of the two heavy hitters in the cordless power game and demonstrate the DeWalt system with its backwards compatibility so the consumer is not left buying new tools or new batteries just to continue using previously bought equipment. Well done ✅ keep up the good work helping us people out in the real world make informed decisions, and saving hard-earned money💰.

    I agree with you, Vince. DeWalt was first out the gate with the 120 volt Flexvolt miter saw (which I love)...but years later no 120 volt Flexvolt table saw despite Metabo HPT doing it at 36v. Ordered a cordless 36v Metabo HPT 1/2 inch router...but DeWalt had years ahead of them to develop their own Flexvolt version and were asleep at the switch. I own and love many Milwaukee 18v tools. Their competitiveness is both a signal of how good they have been at innovating their battery and motor technology and a signal of how bad their competitors with higher voltage capabilities have been at leveraging that to their advantage.

      I've been waiting for a brushless jigsaw forever. Craftsman V20 Brushless tools are great, but the brushed tools suck monkey balls. I broke down and bought a Milwaukee router (cordless) and jigsaw, so I'm probably done buying Craftsman now. It's a shame, I have tons of tools and 4 9amp batteries, so I've spent a lot on money on Craftsman, but I cant keep waiting forever

      @@chadhero37 Absolutely true!
      (Excellent description, BTW) I began upgrading to Milwaukee last year, but used Craftsman to fill in some of the gaps for items that either didn’t get used as much or that were way out of my price range. They are good tools and might last, but only if you don’t push them too hard, which, from time to time we are all bound to do. After my oscillating tool crapped out 2x...I thought that it might be a sign to go all the way. With the help of this channel and a handful of others, I have scored some amazing deals and have really rounded out my set. I would still love to see Craftsman step up and innovate, but unless Porter Cable had a secret set of plans for a bunch of advanced brushless offerings (since it seems very much like the large launch of the Craftsman line was mainly a repainting and rebranding of the Porter Cable line) I don’t think it’s going to be happening as fast as we’d like to see it.

    I started with DeWalt in mid 00's (NiCd), switched to Milwaukee for Li-on around 2012 but have been really disappointed with the last few rounds of Milwaukee tools, especially the drills (which are arguably the most used cordless tools) A guy I sometimes work with runs DeWalt and his tools feel and perform much better.
    That being said, I'm looking into Bosch or Makita for my next tools. They at least own themselves and aren't just a name some Chinese company bought for marketing purposes.

    I bought a 20v dewalt grinder and let my best friend borrow it. In one year he refinished 3 fiberglass boats and left my grinder on his boat for six months on salt water. The grinder, batteries, and charger all still work after salt air exposure and are just as powerful as the day I bought them. To me dewalt is a more versatile and abuse resistant tool

    Heh, Vince just wants them to play their hand early so Milwaukee drops the hammer!
    In all seriousness, it’s a good valid point Vince. Only thing I can tell you is that, IMO, they have no focus. Haven’t had focus either fir a long time, which is why Milwaukee has, IMO, taken over as #1, and Makita is eating DeWalt’s (and by extension, SBD’s) lunch.
    They will continue this trend of their until they have someone to unify and drive them again, like a certain competitor’s CEO who used to work for them did before.

Every brand has their failures, but it seems far easier to recommend a newer ryobi offering over a baseline Dewalt offering to the average consumer.

    As far as I know I'm the only kitchen installer in town fully cordless. I have the flex volt 60 volt table saw, the 120v mitter, the 60v circular. I use Milwaukee fuel M12 line for my impact and multitool. I got the Ryobi nailer and narrow crown stapler amongst other things like their blower and fans running on their 18v XP. Dewalt is the way to go with these batteries! I dare say my saws have more power than the corded ones I have tried before. And that includes DeWalt own corded table saw mitter and circulars.

    I've been dewalt all the way. I spend way more money on tools than I need to, but they're grownup toys to me. Plus I like being able to do projects on my own, and as an electrician I preferred dewalts impact, and then I was just stuck on the platform and stayed with them when I bought my first battery powered portable band saw. It was ok, but so much bulkier than Milwaukee. They finally released their atomic portaband,, which I promptly snagged.
    But they've been starting to be more of a pain in the A$$ with their warranty. I had a service center deny me my leaf blower because it was past the 1 year and into the 2nd year of its 3 year, and that was the final straw. I recently just invested in the dewalt battery nail guns, and after this and, frankly, after realizing they are STILL using the dusty flywheel design, I went with Milwaukee and I love it, and my tool people tell me that Milwaukee is night and day better than dewalt for warranty.
    Thanks for reading if you did, and definitely up for some feedback/similar experiences! 🙏🏻

    You are ranting BUT you are also correct. I needed a concrete saw for inside work so I purchased the 9 inch DeWalt flex volt kit with two 9 amp hour batteries - the Milwaukee was not available that month. I then added the cordless table saw and mud mixer because I already had 2 flex volt batteries. I also own M18 and M12 platformed tools. The DeWalt flex volt is a great platform that needs more tools.
    I didn’t know that DeWalt made the inverter. I looked at the Milwaukee but thought it was overkill and too much money for the short duration use of a 120 volt tool.

  • @reginalb124
    @reginalb124 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Milwaukee uses the bigger batteries for heat dissipation. Some of those Milwaukee tools probably draw a lot of power producing a ton of heat, and that Flexvolt battery is too small to dissipate it.
    Pretty sure that's why the new lawnmower uses two 20V batteries instead of a Flexvolt battery. That said, some of those tools could easily have a little active cooling to help out.

    • @ironhawk02
      @ironhawk02 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve used the DeWalt lawnmower with two Flexvolt batteries and the batteries produced less heat than the 10ah 20V batteries that it came with. The mower also ran longer with the Flexvolt, which it should.

    • @reginalb124
      @reginalb124 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ironhawk02 Yeah, because they're running at 20V. You are only running a third of each battery at any given time, of course they produce less heat. You're not drawing all the rows of cells at the same time at 60V.
      A single Flexvolt battery running at 60V means all that additional heat of running all the rows of cells at once, in a single 20V size battery.

    If you know a bit about Lithium style cells you will understand why Dewalt has problems making bigger equipment on their FlexVolt batteries. It's for that same reason that Makita went to 40V with no backwards compatibility, although I do think for smaller tools they could have done their own flexvolt to fix some compatibility issues, as an temporary bandaid.

I mean a lot of Dewalt peeps are professionals with a thrifty mind set I feel. Wonder if Dewalt fears being able to get the margins needed to succeed at some of the higher cost equipment and tools. That would be my guess anyway. As a Dewalt guy Ill pay Dewalt prices and get the good tools although they might not be the best because I just cant justify to outfitting myself with Makita or Milwaukee as there wouldnt be much left to live on after shelling out for blue or red. No shade on those that can afford the top of the line as there are some awesome tools out there from Makita and Milwuakee for sure. But for many the cost of outfitting in those brands is just not feasible. And I feel thats where Dewalt hits the sweet spot for many.
