British Airways Boeing 757-200 G-CPER amazing powerful and steep take off at London Heathrow (LHR)

  • British Airways Boeing 757-200 G-CPER, delivered in 1997 - The 757 is an authentic rocket. it literally pushed us all back against the seatbacks with a great engine spool up sound and then soared at a very steep angle until we supposedly reached 5000 ft.
    A Qantas and a Singapore Airlines A380s can be seen and also an engine vortex before entering the runway.
    The last BA 757s were withdrawn from the fleet (actually sold to Fed Ex) towards the end of October 2010, roughly 6 months after this video was shot, and replaced by A320s and A321s.
    This was a scheduled flight between London Heathrow (LHR) and Barcelona-El Prat (BCN). Due to the industrial action that was taking place those days, more capacity was needed to allocate passengers from cancelled flights. Therefore, the original plane for this flight, an A319 was switched for this B757.
    Unfortunately I didn't have an HD camera at that time.
    Enjoy it and feel free to leave your comments!

    One of the few videos you can 'feel' the acceleration by just watching.
    My first ever flight was on a 757 and loved the take-off.
    Been disappointed by every other take-off since and always think back to that 757. Great times.

    757s are quite capable of doing that, yeah. These things' critical angle of attack is crazy, combined with two engines that might very well be too powerful for this aircraft... It's crazy, man.

    I loved the 757. Used to fly a lot between 1986 to 1991 mostly BA on 757's, look out and see RR on the engine cowlings was a great sight. The LHR to Belfast shuttle was always good, nothing in the hold / fast take off.

    • @n654us
      @n654us 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember when they came into service in 83. The Belfast - LHR route came over my house (still does as I live near the Wallasey beacon). I remember the controller, when the pilot asked for FL390, saying "If you can get up there that's fine by me. You'll be out of my way for the lower aircraft"! This was pre-RSVM days of course.
      Beautiful aircraft. I've got 19 flights logged on them.

      Boeing738Fan I think you mean thrust at 80% that's the max for takeoff~ only time engine works harder is to maintain proper lift during landing

    • @speedbird1598
      @speedbird1598 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeatzPlaysMC Thrust is lowered to save fuel and wear and tear on the engines, as you don't need as much engine power to climb as you do to takeoff

    Realy great ! I I´ve been on a BA 742 too. I was booked on a flight from LHR to ORD. It was the opposite from the take-off shown here. It felt endless and the people on board got nervous. The Jumbo took off right at the end of the runway ! That was realy a bit scary. You had the feeling that it was not a plane you were sitting in, it felt like a bus ! :-) So it is good to see that an old 742 is still able to make a powerfull start and climb... ;-)

    Hi! Just replying from my main account :) The actual De-Rate occurs exactly at 2:18, what you hear at 4:10 is simply the autothrottle adjusting the engine thrust accordingly to the climb rate etc that the pilots would have programmed in etc.
    De-rates always occur shortly after takeoff to save the stress on the engine :)

      +loaferguy73 oh I didn't know that!

    • @loaferguy73
      @loaferguy73 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +FlyingMiner Yeah the RB211-524H series on the 767-300 and 747-400 produces 60,600 pounds of thrust max and the RB211-535 series on the 757 produces from 37,400 to 43,100 pounds max. So that amount of thrust on a much lighter plane makes the 757-200 a rocket :-)

    Most powerful Boeing ever built in IMO. The engine to body ratio is off the charts, and apparently they engines were so powerful, they had to space the timing of the plane taking off after it to wait longer, cause this plane was responsible for some serious turbulence for planes taking off right after after it, and even cause one plane to crash.

    The reason for the steep departure is most likely due to the SID and noise abatement used at London Heathrow. Aircraft are required to hit 4000 ft by the time they reach the Woodley NDB. Then its on to 6000 feet halfway to the Compton VOR.

      No way if BA used "full power" on a takeoff at heathrow with the runways they have there. i would say 85% N1.. 757 is one of the most powerful airliners out there with a crazy power to weight ratio. remember that this 757-200 use the exact same engine as the 767,a much larger plane,tho the 757 engine is a bit downrated it is close to follow the thrust on the PW engine the 767-300 use...

    Are you talking about assumed temperature derating? The point at 2:18 is just the point at which the thrust is reduced from TO/GA to climb power - the derate itself is achieved by setting the TO/GA to a certain percentage of the maximum power setting, by entering an 'assumed temperature' into the FMC that is higher than the actual air temperature. The assumed temp is calculated based on runway length, QNH, actual air temperature and TOW, and derates of up to 20% of max thrust are possible.
