Hi DeJay, it seems far too coincidental that the alpacas are displaying these symptoms on the heels of shearing. Have to think it relates more to the manner in which they were restrained. Likely they have muscle, tendon strain.
Checking selenium levels is wise for general health.

Yes, more than one and right after shearing. The restraining was kinda rough...mighta pulled a muscle. Not what SHE did but they weren't used to it so kinda fought it off a lot...more than usual.

I had my llamas sheared the same way you had your alpacas, the only difference was our guys used a green pad to lay my girls on. I don't seem to think it was the shearing, but who knows. It was fun to see Daniel joking around today.
If done improperly, sure it could be an issue. Quarter Horsing practices are old and out dated. The shearing couldve been done easier and less stress to the animals. People use this method or quarter horsing because it quick and the shearer is out of there much faster.

@@ricks.1092 as soon as the vet said something about pulled muscles, I wondered if something happened when they were sheared recently, like the pulleys popped something.
I think it’s too much of a coincidence that all of the females developed this problem after the shearing.

That was my thoughts. maybe the way they were tied down when they were sheared.
No, otherwise the male alpaca would have had issues also which he did not. It's more likely that Jerry being an inexperience breeder needs to learn some refinement and manners around the ladies.
My first thought when she said after they were sheared they had trouble walking, was they way they were stretched out and forced down to be sheared. Not something they were used to. 😢😢
I definitely wasn't saying the person doing the shearing did anything wrong, just maybe the alpacas were sensitive to being held down that way.
I am just hoping and wishing them a quick and speedy recovery either way.

Did you tell the vet how the alpacas were tied down to be sheared? I thought from the video that each one walked funny after they got up, seems that would have pulled muscles. Praying they are better soon. Love watching you with donkeys, you may need to watch some Pat Parreli videos about being the "boss" mare ! It works

Anyone who has ever watched the first videos they did on her channel, would know how deeply they love each other. Both of them crying remembering those early days of their marriage was so touching and you know that came from their heart.
People need to mind their own business. Watch the video and appreciate what’s shown. Asking people to kiss more is a bit intrusive. This channel is about animals, not their love life.
So sorry to hear about the donkey poodles. Especially Lucy. She looks like she’s in a lot of pain poor baby! I pray they recover quickly and if it is Jerry being too aggressive in mating that he’ll calm down and take it easy on the girls! God bless y’all! ❤️

We had a tick on our dog once that made him have backend walk like that. He had some paralysis that went away after we removed the tick. Great video guys. Good luck thigh the girls.

I was wondering having them stretched out like they were when they got sheared if it would cause lameness issues. I thought it could have damaged their stifles or hips. I hope they heal up ok.

You mentioned that this happened after they were sheared. It sounds to me like they were injured when the guys tied them down. Their legs may have been positioned in a way that either pulled a muscle or put their hip joints out of place. I hope they get better soon. God bless you all.
Walker farms used the same girl to shear their alpacas and did it the same way. No problems there.??!?!

There sure are a lot of bleeding heart comments about the way the alpaca's were tied down during shearing. That tie down is normal and the male alpaca (Jerry) was also tied down and isn't having any issues. It's more likely that he's an aggressive breeder.
