    For anyone wondering why he says "horse" - he's from Portugal. And both in Spanish and Portuguese we call that chess piece caballo/cavalo which translates to "horse" 😊

      I think in pretty much every non english speaking country they call it horse.
      Same here in Greece , we call it "alogo" , which means horse.

      Andre is technically not wrong.. in spain we do call the knight "caballo" which translates to horse in english 😅

      Neither did Eric when he picked the game. He was about to suggest that tactic before realizing the check himself. I think it might even be one of the reasons he picked the game to begin with.

    Hey Erick! Love the channel, you really got me very interested about chess again. I got a question 23:17, couldn't he check with the knight, then after the knight trade his pawn would be in a good square and queen to A4 becomes much stronger?

    It's usually not advisable as well in king's indian defense to play e7 straight to e5 if c7-c5 has been played, isn't it. 'cause the d pawn will be very weak and our gg bishop will get blocked

    in a position like at 17:34 or similar, what are whites plans regarding castling? the rook on the h-file is needed there to attack, but the queenside doesn't look too safe either...?
    edit: i'm talking about the situation when the h-file has already been opened

      I had the same question. I’m assuming since black castled queen side, white has no reason to waste a move castling into an equally bad position. Probably better to continue the attack and launch pawns for a mate... but someone correct me if I’m wrong :)

      You can walk your king to f1 and g1 if the situation calls for it, but you should continue with an attacking plan most of the times

      @@balto2455 Almost works. The problem is that after Ra4, Nxd2, Rxb4, black does not have to take the rook. Instead they have the much stronger move Nf3+. After gxf3, black now takes the rook with check: Qxb4+.

      ... I don't have the mindset of a beginner but how do you fall for such a simple mate... Just develop the knight and fianchetto the bishop and there are 0 ways white could even put pressure on you that way.

    6:30 I've noticed that the good players (black in this case) always seem to setup the fionchetto (probably spelled wrong) or dragon on the player's king side pointed at the opponent's queen side. I've seen this in a lot of top rated games so there must be something that I'm missing. This seems to be the opposite of what I would expect to be most effective. Wouldn't it be better to set it up on the player's queen side with the bishop pointed at the side that the opponent is most likely to castle on? Even if the opponent doesn't castle, this would seem like a more effective attack to me. Or is the king side dragon just an entirely defensive setup?

    I instantly saw sacking the queen and then forking queen and king to win a piece. My tactics are sharp. Then the moment in the game when that queen takes back with check is one of the most brutal in chess. From beautiful to a goddamn travesty. All because my king is in the middle of the board, like an IDIOT.
