Great repair and video! You don't slam people for working on their own consoles, when they make mistakes. Everyone is a beginner at some point. Thank you. 😀
Nice fix Phil! I'm glad you didn't flame the prior repairer too hard. The fact is you make this work look rather easy, but to the person trying to give a go themselves they find out how hard it really is to execute properly.
Absolutely mate. A lot of people lose focus and forget how hard it was for them while they were learning. If it was a professional I'd have a few words to say but knowing it's an amateur it's perfectly fine. The main thing is he gave it a go and gave up when he realised he was out of his depth. I for one can appreciate that :)
4:30 this comment always get me, no one on this planet was ever born to be able to do anything, everything that we all do no matter how specialist, it’s all been learnt over time and defo years of experience! Nice one Phil
To me the biggest thing is getting people to realize that the equipment to do this work at that level of precision is not something the average person will use enough to justify the purchase. A microscope, Hot air station, several irons, precision tweezers, solder, flux, braid, low melt solder, and you have done set fire to a grand at least. You still have to have skills with all the good equipment, but the level of expertise needed to properly do this work goes up exponentially when you have tools that are tools, but not up to the task at hand. And people wonder why it costs to get something fixed! Its expensive, that's why!!
I still don't get why you won't switch to a £20-25 T12 soldering station like QUICKO for instance ;). We use it here, all my team and none complain. With an old laptop PSU you get almost 70W out of it and by being T12, it's a HUGE difference in a heat transfer. A no brainer choice for me ;). With 24V PSU, or bench power supply, you get over 70W on it ;).
Are you aware if anyone has tried upgrading a retail Series X to 20GB of RAM? The RAM modules are different sizes which means some of the memory addresses are only accessible using a fraction of the memory bus. Even if the console wouldn't use more than 16GB of memory, it might make it use the whole 320-bit bus for the whole range.
I'd love to but the problem is being able to offset the cost. Most videos make around £50 in revenue so I wouldn't really be able to justify spending several hundred on tools to make a video
whats best type of solder to use on like pcb/motherboards/radio from car, leaded or lead free and is there a specific type for electronics like you said plumbers solder, im new to it all also how do you prevent headache from soldering
Leaded is best because it has a lower melting temperature and the solder won't oxidise as easily as lead free. It also doesn't crack under heat stress as often as lead free does
Hello, I have a question that’s not relevant to this video, but I’m currently doing a ssd upgrade on an Xbox one x with a WD blue sa510 1tb. I’ve installed it and I’ve tried doing the offline system update with a flash drive many times and it fails once it says 1%. I’ve tried using 3 different flash drives and I’ve made sure the download on the flash drives are correct. If anyone could give any assistance that would be great.
If you are getting an error at 1% that would indicate it can't find the partitions it needs. Have you used the xbox partitioning tool to prep the hard drive before trying to install the software?
@@TheCod3r I have not. I basically took the drive out of the box and installed it in the Xbox and watched some tutorials on TH-cam on doing so. Do some drives already come with the partitions?
Question for you. I want to get an Xbox for my friends son who is seriously ill (not terminal) but is in and out of hospital. I can’t really afford a new one but I might try fixing a broken one. I’m not technically minded, is it something a newby could do??
It really depends on what tools you have available. For a lot of jobs you're going to need a soldering iron, hot air station and microscope. It's definitely not impossible though and with a bit of perseverance you'll do it :)
I missed the live. Normally Stick it on while i work. But I’ve needed both screens lately! Haven’t tried my hand at an xbox one series x yet. People Seem to think broken stuff is still worth a million dollars around here!
Lol that's actually intentionally done. It's a trick to make people wonder what it said and have to rewind to see it. A way to then fool the algorithm into thinking people actually wanted to see it again. Social engineering for the robots 😜
You might be asking, how could the previous owner of that XBOX treat it like garbage, regarding the bad mosfet replacement? Well, it's actually pretty simple: "They must've been a PLAYSTATION FAN" 🤣

So true. I think some that have been repairing for a while lose sight of this. We all start somewhere.

This is wild….you basically built an Xbox from scratch. Insane talent
We have the power and the technology to rebuild it, nice 1 Phil.
Great video Phil! Nice repair

Great job sorting this one out

Great work Phil as ever! A nice fix!
Great job. I didn’t think it had a chance.
Great repair can i ask what tip are you using for this?
Excellent repair video. Thanks
Wow, beautiful time lapse! Great job, keep it up. 👍😀
"plumbers solder" usually is full of acid core flux. Hence the green staining.
Nice one, satisfying repair that!
Thanks bud, appreciated 🙏

I love your skills mate I would attempt at these repairs if I could only see them let alone put a soldering iron near it!
Great Job!!!
Another amazing job 🫡🎉👍🏾
Well done Phillip

Nice video wizard
I will (when I get around to doing it) buy some solder from your store, as I need some decent solder that is what it says it is.
You should make vids comparing beginner tools to high end tools. Do two similar repairs but one uses expensive equipment the other cheap.
I'd love to but the problem is being able to offset the cost. Most videos make around £50 in revenue so I wouldn't really be able to justify spending several hundred on tools to make a video
@Phil, I've got a series X hdmi port repair that I flubbed pretty good. Most of the traces ripped. Would you be interested in taking a look?
🤣🤣🤣
Also, the reason why the board is overheated in places is because they use the plumber solder. They needed to go way too high on the temperature

Very tidy repair there Phil.
Does anyone have a good "1AKRM" chip , or "LAKRM" chip? (Bottom right corner if ur looking at the logo on the board
Ha. I use the same specialist electronics toothbrush.
Nice one!
I buy alot of things from AliExpress but from the start I've always bought good solder :)

I don’t suppose you take on job like repair multi meter , I’m in west mids
How much time does it took in the real time?
This took me 1hr 25 minutes on live stream so if I wasn't streaming probably about 45 minutes :)
@@TheCod3r wow, 50% more because of the live stream
Hope that is not your other half's Tooth brush
Whew! How long did it actually take?
I was live streaming and this took 1hr 25m but if I wasn't streaming I'd have done this in about 45 minutes

"Doomed" is relative. Maybe in the hands of a lesser mortal it would be.
That is a mess
Need to sign each component you send out so you know it's yours?
Never open my Xbox series. Now I know the way it looks all generic.
👍
