      Alrightthenlad an end to the ability for narcissistic husbands to have one last thing to control their wives. Religiously, the women cannot remarry. They cannot date. Those men know that, and THAT is why they refuse to sign the papers. But sure, what a GREAT religious practice 🥴

      @@-MaryPoppins- I dated a Lebanese woman once.. she mentioned if she divorced and had children she would feel no need to date again (even worse remarry). I saw this to be altruistic and responded in a positive way.. she looked at me and said.. "it's okay if you remarry, you're an American *man*" I explained how I felt about it.. she looked at me again and said "it's hard to believe you wouldn't remarry as well.. if you are genuine then you are an almost perfect man".. the conversations I had with her were .. eccentric to say the least. But I learned so much of myself with her.

      @HKZ P I don't think it's racist to want to marry someone of the same race. More likely to have things in common. However, I'm not about to make any apologies on behalf of organized religon or its adherents, but this needed to happen. Sure you and I think it's not a big deal, but this guy was being spiteful. Fucking prick he was.

    • @varun009
      @varun009 5 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @HKZ P dumb fucking idea, true. But there are considerations other than mutual attraction to take into account when appraising a prospective partner. How they get along with their family and what have you. Since most people are religious, this is common to think about. You're expecting too much when you think an instance like this will shatter some nutjob's view of their entire religion. Much like tipping, the people/things to blame have managed to have us bicket amongst ourselves. Just as waiters can hold a grudge against a bad tipper when it's his/her boss that's actually underpaying them, it's far simpler to rationalise such a circumstance as being the product of a single (not technically I guess) asshole's spite and pettyness rather than the ideological shortcomings of their religion as a whole.

      People say they should keep things like these private and solve it yourself alot. I disagree. At a certain point you need the public shaming and pressure to get them to stop being absolute dicks and holding things over you. Especially if it's something they want to shut you up, they know it's wrong , they are embarrassed to let others know but still does it as long as no one knows for years and years on end . By this time , you need that loud and clear public airing to get their asses in gear since that's the only thing that they are ashamed of and the only thing that will move them

      @HKZ P I'm not a religious person, apart from my Catholic upbringing. I just see the solidarity. I'll stand in support with every victim of oppression every time it's needed, but you're making a caricature of religion. It's just a fact of life that groups of people have always generated rules for life, good and bad, long before the modern system of lawmaking was conceived. I read Hitchens, Dawkins, Krauss,... and can understand anyone having a reactionary phase where they make the trial of all religions. Though there's very legitimate criticism, this can also become a good way to make yourself miserable, by not wanting to see the good in people. I hope you'll realize that everyone who gets to put religion, which was generated over centuries, under the loop of hyperreason, often devoid of necessary historic context, is probably in a luxuary position to do so. That's not the position most people are in. Given your inflammatory rhetoric and your eagerness to condemn, are you certain you won't be as bad as the 'evil' you're supposedly against. Real practical change comes through activism, understanding, tollerance, nuance, outreach, ... not condemnation and polarisation, which is too easy, symplistic and more emotionally fuelled than reason wants to admit, or there would be no need for swearing.

      sweetboo1022 The good thing about Judaism is you don’t have to follow all the laws depending on what denomination you’re in. This video focused on one sect, orthodoxy, which is the strictest. I honestly question and doubt the existence of God every day but I never question my Jewishness because of the sense of community that comes along with it. Going to my grandparents every Friday for Shabbat and singing/praying, it’s beautiful. Being an Atheist and refusing religion does not make you better, and you’re being self righteous if you think it does. It's good for Rabbinim (rabbi - plural) to stand for justice. The definition of "Rabbi" is a vague concept because today's rabbanim are bought and paid for (unless you work with the right rabbi). For example, there could be a spouse that could bribe the religious court to favor their side. So a woman with a rich father could make it possible for a Get to be written due to some financial influences (even if the claim is wrong). Some women are liars, and some men are abusers. It's a bit more complicated than people realize.
      I mean, take into consideration the couple in this video. They could both be attention-loving people. She wants a video made about her relationship, and he wants people yelling his name at his front door. They might [also] both be addicts.

      its the only religion seen as directly from God (God told the angel Gabriel the sentences and Gabriel sent it to Muhammad with the reference to which verse and chapter it would be. The prophet Muhammad would tell his companions these verses and they worked out the order of the Quran years later). So Islam was initially an oral language.
      It also honours women very highly, a lot of the time their status is above men. It was the first and only religion to say women can own their own property, the money they make is only for themselves and what they wish (the male in the family pay for their needs), can divorce even for a reason such as not being satisfied sexually by her husband etc.
      You can check out this American guy Omar Suleiman, he has some really quick and easy to understand series on things like misconceptions about Islam.

      In secular law, a spouse can divorce their partner against their will. This video is stupid because it purposely failed to explain that a Jewish divorce requires the consent of BOTH the woman and the man. And the reality is that a psycho-husband that refuses to divorce his wife cannot get married to another person until he agrees to the divorce. The video purposely explained that inaccurately too because they want to make it seem like women have a monopoly on being helpless victims.
      Yes, there are unfortunately, like this woman, many PEOPLE in the world that are abused... both men and women being victims. And yes, like her husband, there are many PEOPLE in the world who abuse others. Why they always have to distort these kinds of situations to make it seem like it is all abuse against women and that is perpetuated by men... I don't understand...

      @@1029-h4m R. Gershom passed three decrees way back when that are enforced. One was that men are no longer permitted to marry multiple wives. Another was that a man is not permitted to give a get to his wife against her will. No legitimate Orthodox Jewish Beis Din in Israel is going to force a divorce on a women who does not accept it. And no sane Beis Din is going to permit a man to marry multiple wives. If he has not given her a get, she is still married to him and if he married another woman, he would be considered to have multiple wives. I know a woman who works in Agunas and she said half the cases she deals with are men trapped by wives who will not accept a get. Thankfully, the huge majority of divorces go through successfully without one party holding out. But, in the minority of the cases where you are dealing with psychos, half of the pyschos are men and half of them are women, according to my friend who works with these cases. I know one case where the guy's wife wants $3 million dollars (he already paid her over $2.5 million) in order to accept his get. The guy lives in a one room apartment and drives a car over 15 years old. Tell him he can get remarried... he has not been able to...

      The vast majority of communities will pretty much excommunicate a get refuser. Such a man is usually deemed ineligible to participate in certain rituals like the Torah reading. Just this week, one of the chief rabbis in Israel refused to bury a man's wife until he gives his wife a get.
