Nets of Memory: Trailer 2

This is a three minute trailer for the 60 minute film Nets of Memory. Nets of Memory is focused on traditional fishnet and currach boat making, and the creation of social memory among islanders. Filmed on five islands in western Ireland, as well as in Clinton, MA., New York and Auburn, GA, this film goes back and forth in time, exploring why after leaving the sea and Ireland Festus Halloran (1878-1944) continued to make fishing nets for 42 years after leaving Ireland in 1898. Ultimately the film is about how people deal with emigration, the repetitive nature of crafts, the use of hands and how the practices we grew up serve as both mediation and remembrance.
