    I've seen two other different ways to center the voice coil, neither was that easy, and one involved destroying the center dust cap. This is the best tutorial!

    So nice to know I can do it myself professionally and much cheaper than a shop charges. Also love the fact I can still hear my emit r's and img woofers. Classic westcoast sound.

    This was a fun & easy project. I found that using the tip of a wire tie with pressure applied made it very easy to secure the outer rim to the metal frame.

    5:51 - I really don't recommend using the finger tip to smooth out the glue. They are very sticky and one won't be able to wash them off easily in order to handle or install the foam afterwards. I would just say use the brush (which was included in the kit) to smooth out the glue.

    If you're lucky you can peel up the old glue/surround on the basket. Usually I can get most of it off without having to scrape. Also I tend to glue the new surrounds to the front of the cone so I have a good surface to mount on. They sound great and you dont have to remove all the old surround from the back of the cone.

    Oils you use the small wheel tool for repairing screens on your home? Just roll it around to evenly seat the surround into the glue.

    hear in south fla, it has been my experience that foam surround will deteriate in 5 years or less. whether its a refoam or new replacement spkr even if the speaker never sees sunlight.
    my solution is your product MI-1291 white in color and in a plastic bottle.
    i gently smear front and back of foam and haven't had a failure since.
    i have used the product on old spkr foam just starting to crack for an ever lasting repair

    Just ordered this kit. I noticed you attached the surround to the top of the woofer cone. On mine the surround was originally on the bottom of the cone.
    My question is does it make a difference which side the surround is glued to?

    Hi thanks a lot for the very helpful video. I wonder if replacing a foam surround with a rubber one would change the driver performances in a perceivable way at listening. I understand rubber sorrounds are almost neverending. Regards, gino

    • @simplyspeakers
      @simplyspeakers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the comment. Rubber surrounds are generally too heavy for use on a speaker designed with foam. We recommend using the foam kit to repair the Advent woofers.

    With the right glue and a lot of experience, that could be done in 5 minutes and ready for use.

    • @richflorio8616
      @richflorio8616 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Completely Wrong. You need to let the glue dry after each step for at least an hour. Overnight is even better. If you attempt to install the speaker back into the cabinet before the glue has completely dried, gravity will cause the cone to dry off center and then your "5 minutes" was for nothing. Also, you need to get ALL the original adhesive off all surfaces and start with CLEAN surfaces, otherwise the glue will not adhere properly and again, a waste of time and material. Bottom line, take the time and do it right. This is NOT a 5 Minute process!

  • @BudgetRC_Channel

    Didn't these speakers originally have the surround glued to the under side of the cone? I just got a set of New Large Advents and what's left of the foam seems to have been attached to the back side of the cone.

    • @simplyspeakers
      @simplyspeakers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      About 75% were made as rear mount. You can repair them to the top of the cone or to the back. We have never heard any difference between the two methods.

  • @eugent

    This question was already asked, but not answered... New Large Advent woofer surround were originally glued to the back of the cone, but you're gluing them to the front of the cone... Why is that?

    • @simplyspeakers
      @simplyspeakers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We install them to the rear of the cone on models that are designed that way. Ease of repair for the novice is primary reason we made video showing top mount. Advent woofer performance is not affected one way or the other. Most manufacturers (including Advent) use the top mount scheme for most woofers.
