    For those replacing a cone on a F110, 112, or 113 you need to remove the four pins that normally hold you speaker grill in place. That allows the front wooden frame to be removed which gives you access to the silver perimeter ring that needs to be removed. This is shown on the JL website. Also, I used packing tape to attach string to the inner cone. I then tied it off to a 6ft A frame ladder I had positioned over the woofer to apply upwards pressure on the cone since I had no access from below.

  • @simplyspeakers
    @simplyspeakers  10 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    Place something behind the cone to hold it up a bit while the glue dries. Use some wadded up paper towels, or an old rag, etc.

    Great video…did mine today. Let’s hope for the best. Anyone who is doing theirs, it’s pretty simple. I was nervous but got through it pretty easily. I cut up straws to hold the cone up to the foam. Just measure how big I needed the straw and cut it. I used 4 pieces of straw to push it up and braced it against the metal on the speaker. It worked out great.

    What method do you use to separate the outer cone from the surround on W7s in which the foam has not deteriorated to the point of it being loose?
    I'd imagine using a small flatblade or something to pry it up working around the perimeter, but I also fear that the adhesive is too strong and it might damage the outer cone.

    • @simplyspeakers
      @simplyspeakers  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Not sure since we always get them in the shop and the foams are pretty deteriorated. Might need to email a photo of that unit to us so we can see what options you have.

    • @CrMo4130
      @CrMo4130 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I just tackled this repair because my foam had a small rip in it, however, the foam was not deteriorated at all. I first cut the foam with a utility knife as close to where the two cones are glued together as possible. I did so giving myself a bit of space so I wouldn't risk nicking the plastic cones with the blade accidentally. I then used the heat-gun to heat up the glue and foam around the perimeter of the woofer, and then used the utility knife to cut the foam between the two cones enough so that I could get my finger between the two. Then, while applying a bit more heat in front of my finger as I worked around the perimeter, I was able to heat the glue and foam enough to separate the two layers. The foam did not split, rather, the glue loosened from the top cap, and the foam stayed on the bottom cap. Once the top cap was removed, I then used more heat, got underneath the foam (which was easy once the top cap was removed, it appears JL used glue on the bottom cap more towards the outside of the cap rather than the inside), and worked the foam around and removed it as one solid ring piece. I then had to use alcohol to remove the glue residue left over.
