I just repaired two JBL 128H Woofers on my set of Jubal L-65s. I used the Foam Edge Kit I obtained recently from Simply Speakers. These loudspeakers are extremely important and precious to me. I've owned them since the mid 1970s and they are truly my "EARS." The woofers had been "re-foamed" in the late 1990s by a professional repair facility. Recently I discovered that both woofers needed their foam edges to be replaced again due to the onset of deterioration. I owned and engineered a professional Multi-Track Analog studio in Philadelphia which sported JBL Studio Monitors in all its "live" and control rooms. The L-65 speaker system I own was always used in my residence. They serving as the perfect pair of "test" speakers outside of the studio environment. The foam edge repair restored these woofers to perfection! I am thrilled to have my "ears" back at 100%. Thank you Simply Speakers for the terrific video, which I watched several times before making the repair to both woofers last night. Messy? You bet! But worth every bit of cleanup to have my Jubal L-65s singing again! Deeply appreciated!! Andy Kahn
Ordered a kit from Simply Speakers for my JBL LX 44s. I live in Arizona and the delivery of the kit from Florida was ridiculously fast and free. I spent a lot of time cleaning the old foam but it was worth it. The new foam parts fit like a glove. Everything went just like SS said it would. I am so happy with the results that I decided to write this review. Thank you Simply Speakers for saving my JBL LX 44s. Just listened to some Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, Allman Brothers and James Taylor and wow just wow. Now I know why so many people are into these old AMERICAN made quality built speakers. Repairing them reminded me of working on an old classic muscle car. Quality.
Lancelot Link omg. I just ordered from them and I too live in Florida and it got to me in 2 days!! They really are on top of things ;) removing that old adhesive us quite tedious...
First time repairing anything related to speakers and it went off without a hitch! Awesome and easy tutorial. Thanks for the kit and video. I will definitely use you guys again!
Most thorough and well explained instructional video I've ever seen, every detail covered. I'll be soon refoaming a pair of 128H's just like these with confidence.
I just finished putting new foam on my JBL speakers, watched this video as I was doing it. The kit I ordered from yall worked perfect! Was very easy! I am now enjoying loud, crisp music again! Thank you for what yall do!
Just finished pair of 125As from L36s, my 1st refoam. Glue application is harder than it looks here on back of the cone. Glue dries pretty fast so if you dont lay an even bead 1st time, touch up is sketchy. I had to do alot more babysitting the foam to cone curing, bout 15 min of pressing foam to lay down flat & stay there with a spoon handle. Once this Glue tacks. It's hard to work with.
Yeah thank you guys just finished my JBL MRV308 had to do both speakers, first time I did it, bent up one of the cones a little, but they sound great and I can turn my stereo up loud again. Seemed a little more difficult because the frame was and cone only had about 1 cm of separation so cleaning the back side of the cone was a little more difficult.
My FSK-10 kit has arrived. I have a pair of JBL 4410 that need refoaming (127H-1). The confusion lies in the fact that from your page for this part, you offer 2 different videos, one has you gluing the new gasket to the front of the cone, the other to the rear of the cone. Well, which is it? And does it matter? It appears gluing to the front is much easier so if it makes no difference, I'd be inclined to do that. But I can tell from the old foam I scraped off that the original was glued to the back.
Thanks a lot for this video and for a great product! I wasn't ready to give up on my LX500's. Now they are all patched up and hopefully set for another 20 years. Thank you much!
Ordered the kit from SS and undermounted the surrounds on my >25 yr old 8" JBLs. I skipped shimming the coil to center on one and it made no difference (the coil has very very close tolerance on these - would not accept playing card strips). Both speakers sound better than new. Way worth the $25.
hey, I got a pair of JBL 4425 that's bee re foamed but I noticed that it was glued on top pf the cone not underneath as you guys are showing, will this affect the sound? I want to get your foams as they are the best would it be possible remove the ones on top to do it properly with your products? thanks
Thank you for this very informative video. I'm getting ready to do my L96's/ 8" woofers. I feel like if I take my time and be careful, I should have a wonderful result. Thanks again.
Are the standards of the surrounds different for other JBL models? I just finished my 4410s and the surround spacing was very sloppy between the cone edge and surround roll. Bad enough they may need to be reconed. Nothing like my CVs, Advents, or infinity speakers.
i see plenty cerwin vega refoam vidios however not a single comlpete rebuild. im reconing a 15' dx9 woofer and cant find any information on how to set the depth of coil. i dont want to go off its current position do to the fact that someone has already had these apart at one point and time. if any one can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated
Send a photo of the coil shimmed in place before you glue in the spider and we will let you know if you are safe to proceed. Send to: info@simplyspeakers.com
Wow!! This video is 9 years ago? Are you guys still in business? Because I have to re-cone 2 JBL L-150 speakers. Your Logo actually look like the JBL L-150s..
Try warming with a hair dryer and using a piece of painters tape to pop it back into shape. If that doesn't do the trick, we sell the new caps. Part # DC-3P. See our website. Thanks!
I've found that I rarely ever need to use alcohol on cleaning the frames or cones. I simply scrape the old foam away with my razor knife and the foam is removed.
Is that 91% isopropanol you're using? It's kind of hard to make out from the video. I tried some 70% (because it's what I had), but it doesn't seem to do much.
watched few few videos on this subject and this site has the best methods and best type of glue and application ,,, he is a very knowlegeable & skilled tech
I just scored a pair of jbl L112 s. free. the foam deteriorated and the owner put out for trash. SCORE. this week I also pu. a nice battery that charged up to 14.volts. another SCORE. I now have a no fuel to engine that's sux
Great Video. Used this to install my JBL L26 10" woofer surrounds. They look and sound great now. Great product. Fast shipping and great tech support. I would definitely order from them again.

We prefer to install the JBL surrounds on the rear of the cone. Use the JBL video as a guide and you will be fine. Thanks!
Would not have attempted this if not for these excellent videos! Great job guys!
Thanks!

Thanks so much! I’m not very handy but this video helped me save a pair of JBL 4408A monitors.

Hi,, Great video. What sort of glue is that? I was advised to use PVA but think it will be messy.

Can you repair the cone if it gets a smash in it?
I’m thinking it’s just paper with a coating.... maybe some light glue and some new coating will fix it.
Depends on how severe the damage is. Contact us through the website. Thanks!
Great video, big help. Doing my JBL 4410's. Thanks!

Our MI-3035 adhesive and it is included with the kit.
Are JBLs the only speakers that have that white cone appearance? Never saw that before...
Tim Richter Not all JBL models use the white coated cones, but many do.
Some Older Fishers and Yamaha's had white cones . My JBL L-100 have white cones
Very good instructor.
