Join me in the garage as I show you a shiny new part for the Datsun 280z! I've bought a Protunerz intake and I'm excited to have it on the car, but first we'll need to buy about $3000 worth of parts to make it work properly.
We'll go over a few of the other parts but I need your input to help me decide which ECU to buy! Megasquirt 2, 3, or haltech?
Last, I want to give you all a little update on the channel, how I've been feeling recently, and how much money I've made over the last year as a content creator.

Excited to see the results with this build. Wanted to say I feel you man. My TH-cam channel was pretty big years ago. I made gaming videos, eventually I got burnt out because the amount of work that went into them took me weeks to months sometimes. I recently decided to revive my channel because I do miss making some sort of content but this time car related and a little more personal related. I know it's going to be slow though and I know views are going to be down compared to years ago. Just wanna say if you have the passion for it, eventually it'll come full circle.
I’m glad to hear you decided to revive your channel, you’re right it’s a ton of work but when the inspiration and motivation hits, it’s tons of fun. I’ll continue making content but I just need a little breather lol, and I’m looking forward to having a new car and new platform to tinker on a bit. @@JordanPayneLV Thanks dude! Hoping to get my 280z back soon so I can make content with it again and not just my Stinger. Totally agree with you though, I always had fun making any of the videos I did. A break is never a bad thing either. Looking forward to seeing what you do!

Did you also order all the other parts or are you doing it piece by piece?
Man I love the content you put out, hope you find the time to continue at least once per month or so. I’ve looked at all the options of improving/upgrading my intake manifold without breaking the bank, I did end up adding the Fast EFI system to my OEM manifold and it works great. This way I didn’t have to upgrade the ignition side of things as yet. Down side to fast is that you can only manage air/fuel with this system, cannot go back and upgrade ignition said later on without changing the entire system again, if you plan on doing so then mega or Haltech is the direction off the bat.
I looked at this manifold also but didn’t end up going that direction, I’ve since then bout a Jenvey itb setup to eventually install and try to make it work with the fast EFI. I just like the look of the itb setup vs the manifold. Good luck with your upgrade and hope to see future videos from you.

Hey keep up the vids! Id like to see a new style, a life style show yourself doing things, pick up a cheap beamer drift car, have some fun outside with it, bring people along. Just go out and enjoy some cars!

Godzilla raceworks sells a whole megasquirt 3 kit with all sensors you need, and ignition coils. They also have a #2 kid that does require the use of a turbo distributor. I don't know if your dizzy would work, I've never seen something like that before, but it's possible. I was looking at getting the #3 kit and this protunerz intake with a turbo. I have some other stuff i want to get to before the engine. But I would love to see you do a n/a install that way I can think about doing it in 2 phases, and saving the turbo for later.
Definitely, the for me it’s between Godzilla and Protunerz to see which ECU kit to go with, my dizzy won’t work with either option so I have the option to go with the turbo distributor or a crank angle sensor, so maybe a #2 kit with a crank angle sensor will suffice?!
Just want to say thank you for all the amazing content. Your work and dedication showed in your videos. I know I learned a lot and made me take on new challenges that I'm proud of. This definitely should be a hobby and not a job. It's funny i was just thinking I should try to record content as well more for just sharing on the community given how unforgiving working on these cars can be. I honestly have just opted out because of the time commitment. Plus i already swear too much in general and often lose my patience working on cars. Lol all that to say you're amazing and regardless of whether you choose to continue filming content or not just know you helped out a lot of people already.
I also bought a ptz intake and have held off because of all the extras needed. i have them all but it's such a big project to start on. I'm still working out the kinks with my suspension, braking and electric steering assist project. Lots of work to go. Even if you don't film content. Post before and afters. I'm sure folks would love to see the progress.

@@JordanPayneLV I'm in between my 280z and my 2013 335is track car. I sometimes think having to project cars is too much. I go back and forth between which one to work on. At some point I may the decision to just stick with one as a project car. For now, I've been focusing on the z which i love and is super rewarding(albeit insanely frustrating). However, I haven't been to track as a result of me not putting the time and money into the 335is for maintenance items and some much needed braking upgrades. If I could do it over again, i would finish getting my 335is where I want it to be then focus on the Z. Not sure that helps but just what I've been dealing with.
@@lgtkilla I feel that! A project like the Z is SO much work because almost everything needs to be redone. The 335is is such a cool car, first twin clutch! It’s nice to bounce between cars though because sticking to 1 project can get old haha

Hey but you had a baby! Better excuse than mine :) - it’s really tough man, and the amount of work to make the videos is not profitable. I’d make more by going around and power washing people’s trash cans lol
I recently installed the ProTunerz intake with their fuel rail and V3.0 throttle body. I'm running FAST EFI which has been amazing to work with. Some things to note is that FAST EFI requires a IAC Valve sensor which luckily the ProTunnerz V3.0 throttle body has access to. If you do decide to go that route, FAST has an adapter that lets you seamlessly connect to ProTunerz IAC sensor. I'm interested in your custom intake box, I'm new to welding and in desperate need of creating one myself. Good luck with the upgrades, I'm looking forward to watching your progress!
Thanks man! I’ll take a look at FAST EFI, have you tuned it yourself or did it come with a base tune?? Ahhh I forgot about the IAC sensor, I’ll also need to work out the water sensor and maybe a few more things?? What did you do for ignition? Coil packs?
@@JordanPayneLV FAST EFI is self-tuning but you do have to type in the Z's parameters (engine cubic inch, amount of cylinders, injectors PSI, amount of RPM). It's fairly simple and I've had zero issues so far *knocks on wood*. Once everything is setup the ECU will begin to self-tune, you can also make personal adjustments if you'd like based on your preferences. I'm actually running the stock ignition but I am planning on doing the individual coil packs pretty soon, I think they look better and it's about time to make that upgrade.

I went with MS2 setup from Godzilla Raceworks with LS coilpacks and the nippon denso dizzy. Its the little things that add up but that ProtunerZ intake with throttle body is really nice. My biggest issue is the time learning ECU tuning basics. I just don't have the bandwidth to get that into it. I just wanna drive! Best of luck and hope you find yoir balance. #staygritty 🤙
I feel that, sometimes getting too into the weeds gets your head spinning. I think that’s where I’m at now. Godzilla definitely looks like a good option and I’m looking into their stuff as well. Protunerz ECU comes with a base map and thought maybe I’d go to a proper tuner after getting it going with the base map. Thanks man, it’s hard to find a balance but I’m lookin 👀 🙌🏻

MIcrosquirt is also an option, the Amped option over at DIY Autotune is what I would look into. For an NA engine would probably be good. It really matters if you are doing batch or sequential injection. I haven't looked at it in a while, but when I was looking to Fuel Inject my 510. Also for the content, I hear you man I put out like 120 videos over the course of a couple years, and only got up to 1k subscribers.
Hey Aaron I hope you’re doing good and you new garage is taking shape! I’ll check out the amped option you mentioned, megasquirt seems like an industry go-to. And yeah man this content stuff is a hard thing, you did do a ton of videos. I’m hoping that once I get a new car I’ll have a load more inspiration on the new project, we shall see!

I would really like to know the details of the performance improvements. What was the HP increase, did it increase the RPMs? These improvements are very expensive, ultimately...is it worth it?
Realistically, the intake, ECU, and all the accessories will give about 10-15 increased power, the upside is a perfect air fuel mixture, better drivability, smoother power, better emissions, and slightly more power. The real power gains come from the cylinder head and piston modifications.
Can you just run the intake manifold as is, or does it have to have all the extras? I've been looking into that manifold but might be too much trouble for me with the other parts needed.
You can run it the way it is, but it will need some Jerry-rigged modifications to make it work. And at that point I don’t think you’re really getting any benefit from it aside from the looks

Nope! Jenveys would have been another 2k or so, I opted out of that option haha! Any idea how the haltech is better than MS?
I don’t. Mine works great, but I hear good things about MS too. I’m not a tuner so I have someone fine tune it.

Correct, because this intake manifold comes with a throttle body that bolts to it, and the 280z throttle body has the stock ECU built into it. So if you instal this, there’s no longer an ECU in the car. Also this intake requires a throttle cable instead of a linkage

I actually just got the entire Protunerz kit. ECU, harness, everything, now I just need the time and energy to get it put in! So… maybe soon lol
