Fully flaming agree! He was also one of my musical hero’s growing up as without those albums Vienna and Rage In Eden from his then band Ultravox being given to me as a Christmas Day present in 1981, I wouldn’t have a mass record collection.
I don’t understand how anyone could criticise Band Aid. It is saving lives and raising awareness, and Bobs passion for it is just incredible. These men deserve total respect for what they have done.
They get all the praise Yet its tbe public who gave thrir money not these over paid pop stars The CEO is creaming thousands of pounds in a so called salary
They did it for Free and made millions of dollars and Band Aid was terrific! Feed the world brings back memories! for me! Hats off to Bob Geldof and Midge!❤
Bono's line 'tonight thank god it's them instead of you'... Still sends chills down my spine.. I'm 54 remember first hearing that.. Years later he talked about how singing that line made him feel uncomfortable.. But that was the point, it made people feel guilty and ultimately put their hands in their pockets ❤
Midge Ure - the most underrated musician ever. The men who create my musical taste, who help me to survive all tough moments in my life. Thank you Midge!
No Internet, no mobile phones.....the single and the concert 7 months later were the most incredible feat of achievement. It was unique, and ground breaking. I lived and loved it. Do not let the modern naysayers tell you anythingelse....they WEREN'T THERE!
Oh yes, I was 17 in December of that year and I was watching the news and it hit me. I was a BIG Ultravox fan (still am, just seen Midge on tour last month) and I was so proud that 'my' Midge had done this big thing. Now, I am older and wiser and I am still so proud of them all. 👏🏻👏🏻
We all remember the impact of the news report on Ethiopia and the sheer frustration. Band Aid was inspiring and groundbreaking. All the negative comments are for now not then. Even the song is of its own, known by many and still raising money for people in need. Great interview and love Midge (still on tour & awesome). Respect to Bob.
Midge is right ..everyone has an opinion. Just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t make them a “hater”…it just means they have an opinion which may or may not defer from yours
How anyone, in any part of the world, can suggest even the slightest form of criticism toward these 2 men, the song, or those who collaborated on it... Is, quite simply: beyond ridiculous. These people are heroes, of the highest order.
People don’t trust money and certainly not much money. People don’t believe money can solve any problems thoroughly and yet it was presented this way: just pay and the problem gets solved. Hence they started looking for proof of using band aid money to buy weapons, the Ethiopian government’s war with rebels etc.
Thank you bob and midge for this timeless, wonderful, magical, beautiful song that still gives me so many goosebumps❤ story behind it only makes it more magical and unforgettable
No words to describe what Band Aid/Live Aid did to bring about a major change in the way we think about reaching out to our fellow humans. It showed that we need to take action ourselves, no matter how small, instead of depending on our respective governments to do the needful. Sir Bob Geldof paved the way for it and Midge Ure's support for the cause was immense. This was the start of future charity music events that brought about a social change and politicians had to take heed. Huge salute to them and yes, I will be buying and streaming the 40th anniversary mix of 'Feed the World/Do They Know its Christmas Time.' Love and greetings from India.
Its lovely to see the 2 people, who started this iconic Christmas song, being on TV. Thanks both of you for a lively Christmas song and here's to another 40 years 😊!
I watched from Australia the entire concert as a teenager.. ...I now have a little East African grandchild... when i watch the footage of the starving children, I see my little boy.. Thankyou Bob and Midge for all you've done and continue to do.
It could be Sir Midge, or Sir James his birth name. *Midge is Jim phonetically in reverse. Sir Elton could theoretically be Sir Reginald, but it doesn't have that certain 'je Sais quoi' to it.
Still love this song❤ I bought the single and played it on repeat. Any critisism on this song is so wrong! At least they made sure the money came to the people! Every artist, producer etc involved are amazing❤❤
I remember first time I heard the song! Played hookey from school coz Duran were doing a live radio /call in broadcast for in the states at 11 in the AM to promote ARENA and to play Wild Boys for the first time. The surprise at end of the broadcast was this song! 40 years to the day Nov 27th 1984! God bless Sir Bob and Midge
This is such Beautiful life's work! Good karma to the both of you! ❤...and the song and its lyrics is still really good now 40 years later...Yes I will stream and stream....
I'd never give a penny of my money to any of the big charities. When you have the executives taking hundreds of thousands a year in salaries. Sam Watson was jailed in Sierra Leone for asking them why there is children living on the streets begging for food literally yards away from save the children compound.
Errr ... what about about George Harrison's single Bangla Desh, and the Concert for Bangladesh, 1972? I'm not downplaying the wonderful work done by Bob and Midge, and the whole Live aid thing, but I do wish the researchers for this programme actually did their job right before calling them the first to do it, when they weren't.
They were modern musicians of their time, yes we move with the times yet? We should never forget what Sir Bob Geldof & Midge Ure Intented & the musicians of 1985 & of that generation 🎉they inspired the class today! 🎉yet? We don't give up in another 40 years 🎉🎉 Never forget what started the conversation for global Issues most care about to a degree 🎉🎉
when pop stars actually made a difference rather than banal social media huggers with drab songs. Go bob and Midge - i bought back in 84 and ill buy it again in 2024. Wonderful work and achievement
God bless Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. I know the woke people won't like this but who cares! These men and their fellow artists did a wonderful thing back in the day to bring awareness of starvation on the African continent. Maybe the words weren't right (according to the woke brigade) but they were right at the time. Maybe the woke brigade should take a look at the images we all saw back then. I don't think they could handle it, but Bob and his fellow artists surely did!! God bless them all for their contribution to this awful and CONTINUING famine in the continent of Africa. 🙏❤ We should thank Michael Buerk for his first reporting of this terrible awful tragedy 😠
Not sure if you know where the term "woke" originated. It came from a Ledbelly song advising Black people in the US South to "stay woke" to avoid lynching. Now it simply means to be respectful of people who are different from you. Please don't use it to mean something derogatory without knowing what it actually means. And now that you know its origins, have some respect.
The hosts talking over them is really annoying - It was nice to hear them explain how they went about this extraordinary event - and, of course, in hindsight some people are going to criticize it, etc but really, they raised - so far - a few hundred million pounds and, to me, just as importantly, brought this horrific reality to the attention to so many people around the world who did not know about it before they did this record. That is the power of music and of certain celebrity - to bring important, critical realities to the attention of people not paying attention. For a first such charity effort - it was amazing.
Couldn’t disagree with you more, it’s like throwing petrol on a fire trying to put it out. things are worse now than they were back then. Only difference is There are millionaires now that were skint in 1983.
If Bob Geldof was PM we would be in a much better place. I told my father this in 1978. He thought i was a lunatic. I told my very reserved father, he will be world famous one day. " We are Irish, we have the words". Bob Geldof. 🇨🇮
If they do another Band Aid Tour then they should defo invite members of Band II (to perform live - Kylie / Cliff / and Medley from Jason / Sonia / Bros / to apologise for Leaving them off Band Aid 40
Same here, champagne socialists asking poor people in rich countries for money to give to rich people in poor countries. And some went from being skint to being multimillionaires.
Geldof line his own pockets have a look at him and his career worth 150 million before live aid fa and also see how much to people of Africa got they were starving not him ?
Its about time that Midge Ure received a Knighthood for all his work in the music industry. And also for his charity work.
The only musician that deserves a ‘Sir’
Fully flaming agree! He was also one of my musical hero’s growing up as without those albums Vienna and Rage In Eden from his then band Ultravox being given to me as a Christmas Day present in 1981, I wouldn’t have a mass record collection.

should have got it the same time as bob got his
H E A R !!! H E A R !!!!!!!
The impact, scale and importance of Band Aid/Live Aid are unprecedented and unsurpassed and I'm proud to be a part of the generation. 80s forever!
I doubt you will end up getting a knighthood and become a multimillionaire out of it.
@hardlines2635 Absolutely not. I only use Band Aid after cutting onions.
Imagine putting that together, wow is not enough
I don’t understand how anyone could criticise Band Aid. It is saving lives and raising awareness, and Bobs passion for it is just incredible. These men deserve total respect for what they have done.
Ask the Africans who lives IN Africa then you will know the scam and money going to the dictators

Totally agree
Who rated them low?
Was there a list / categories?
It might be 'underappreciated' is the word you're looking for
"Cold, Cold Heart" his last top 20 hit when I was 13, loved it!!
Midge is very appreciated by people with taste for music. Now, the fact that there are not so many like that is a new topic.
Midge and ultravox had a fantastic deep sound, I loved their music.
I was a teenager Xmas 1984 and it's now the same distance between now and then and then and WW2! Insane.
Achtung baby 😄

Love Bob & Midge for all their hard work! And all the artists who have continued to work with the Band Aid Trust!
Two exceptional human beings. If only there were more of them.
I could listen to Sir Bob for hours.
If we had leaders like these men, the world would be a much better place.
EXACTYLY AND FUN TOO
People love to criticize, but these People rarely do anything but criticize!! These men DID something👏🏼👏🏼

Midge came to my Secondary school once as he knew our Head Teacher. It was an absolute honour to meet such an icon. He really is a lovely guy.

Fantastic Midge...the man is a legend...
The tune- “Do They Know It’s Christmas” is so much better than “We are the World.” Once more for the British difference!

They should do it and AT LEAST include every living artist who performed at the 1985 event. Many are gone....but many still remain.
It was a scam. Don't be fooled
@ I disagree with you.
MIDGE URE WAS IN THIN LIZZY BEFORE ULTRAVOX, EVEN HUEY LEWIS WAS IN THE BAND, ethiopia was where the first and oldest christian church was
