The "Let's go home" at the end sounds so incredible, given Bob Geldof had just organized a worldwide charity event featuring the greatest artist at that time.
Very poignant. You can sense the mixed feelings from Quo & Geldof - excitement tinged with a sense of anti-climax. They'd been on stage for one of the greatest shows ever and yet it all was so brief for them. They just wanted to go back on stage and play.
As our modern Western civilisation is coming to an end, it's comforting to have TH-cam as a time machine where one can easily, yet comprehensively look back at the golden era of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and a bit of the 90s as well. Nothing is ever perfect, of course, but we had it good in so many ways and it truly was a blast. You don't know what you've got until it's gone.
One mad, glorious, unforgettable day which all these years on still gives me goose bumps thinking of it. Wonderful to get an insight of what was going on behind that famous stage.
I was there 35 yrs ago, what a day, there's never been another like it. I have some amazing black and white photos taken by Murray Sanders, a photographer with a Portsmouth newspaper who I got chatting to, he let me climb his step ladder and look through his long lens while U2 were on stage, totally amazing, and I still have my Live Aid t shirt, a bit faded and tatty around the edges, but I'll always treasure it, it would be lovely to reminisce with others who were there and compare our memories

35yrs ago, today at this time (8:00AM) I came out from shower and took my enduro bike riding to my high school to attend my final oral examination, a (supposed) 45min meeting with all my teachers. I had the white sweater "USA for Africa" and sunglasses on since I'd been watching 17yrs long all Live Aid concert (Simon Le Bon's wrong note included!!!). After a 1hr and a half (mainly discussing about national, UK & USA literature and Italian policies vs. Africa) I came out with a 59/60 result. My friends are parents brought me Spumante (Italian champagne) & salami to celebrate outside the building. Amazing Day I will never forget!!!
I watched it on TV and recorded on VHS. Still have the tapes, but no player :(. What a great concert. I watched the Live Aid concert, from my house in a suburb of Philadelphia, where the American half of Live Aid was being held. The only bad part of that great day, was my grandmother (who had just come to live with me & my parents) insisting she wanted to make potato salad, and making me miss part of the concert, because I had to run from store to store looking specifically for "red potatoes", that she just had to have.
So true fritha
Jane Willis there is a Facebook group called U2 is my life and they would love you to post those pics on there if you still have them.
I was there
so there is a movie about elton john, movie about queen, now who gonna make a movie about david bowie?
ammar shamsul one is actually being made and is supposed to come out this year (but will probably be delayed to 2021 because of the pandemic). Although, it is not detailing is whole life and just when did his first tour in the US.
I want it
I want one about U2
Bowie said to his son not to let anybody make a movie about him
I will.
So sad that now we're living in the twilight zone.
Depressing and antiseptic...
Yes you're right!😢
That is what happens when you dont let dems win every election. They own the media and are puppeteering your misery..oh i mean they care for your health! All bs for the election because biden cant fill a library let alone an arena.

@ILL SUBZ corporate everything has ruined everything equally. youtube, Internet, music, movies, news, etc, etc. They used to just make the cookie cutter products to mass produce, now they make you fit the cookie cutter and control everything said about it.
George Michael's sister at 2:08. Diana meeting Paula at 2:28 Two tragic women hounded by the media. Elton John with his wife before he was gay at 2:45 .
@ILL SUBZ rave scene jungle house techno ? ...that's the shite that ruined music ..had to be off your tits on drugs to even listen to it.
If you like white middle of the road coked up superstars ..no wonder prince balked at the idea
Bowie and McCartney together wow!
I want come back at those days we was so Young Beautiful past ❤️🎤🎶🎸
I still remember Phil Collins coming out on stage in Philadelphia and saying "I was in England this afternoon". He had flown over on the Concorde to play both sides of the concert. That was amazing.
Yep I remember watching it live too
Mark Knopfler and Sting killing it at 6:53
Listen to it again, then go to 5:05 of this video of Dire Straits & Sting, which is the exact moment on this video. th-cam.com/video/JcqhvPNiJzo/w-d-xo.html
Damn, Illsley and Williams SLAMMING that groove beat!
Best part of it, was looking for dire straits thru the whole video
WOW!!!the fashion, the hair, the icons (with hair)the ones we miss...xoxo thanks for releasing this footage
I was so angry! Lol
It's a great memory now tho, huh? It's a great story for me to hear. Thanks 4 sharing!
@@shawndamccormick278 Thank you. It really did bring back memories of being so excited for the concert that day and also being so mad about that potato salad. Lol
😂😂😂 Lisa what a great story. You always have to obey grandparents, no stomping of feet will change that. God bless you and your family.
@@elizabethtimothy4776 Thank you. All the same, to you and your family, too.
Freddie always stole the show.No words,but perfection.Bravo.
Either they carefully edited out any rock star-ism or this was genuinely a powerfully positive group of down to earth people who happen to be incredibly famous. XO.
Well Elton still decided to wear his shades when the sun ...had...gone...down........over...him.
@@chrisfi3d Bob "dont mention the ethnic cleansing" geldof is there so.. not entirely down to earth.
They were surrounded by their peers, so any tantrums would have seen them kicked straight out.

No Bono that’s why.
This video is made 35 Years ago but it looks so good

13th JULY 2020 Marked 35 Years of one of the World's Most Historic Events.
I'll never forget that day. I watched at home in Amsterdam. Just turned 18, parents were away for the weekend, so had the house and TV for myself to watch (and tape!) all of it. Magical memories.
Me too! Just turned 18 and watched at home in Duivendrecht, just a few meters away from Amsterdam. My parents were working Saturday in the barbershop, so I was alone too. Wish we could have seen it together, that would have been great fun!
@@carmenl163 Wow yes, that would have been fun! :D I lived in Osdorp at the time.
Just wow ! Thanks for capturing and uploading these golden moments of music ! Respect ❤
Jesus, can you imagine with all the shite we have today. Glad I was alive to witness this era of music.
Ugh I can Imagine...Cardi B (itch) and Lizzo whobbling their fat arses all over the stage..Ed Sheeran boring us all to death, Luis Capaldi doing the exact same, and hosted by an unfunny twat like Jack Whitehall. Ugh...
@@desertrose1226 So true lol

We still have some great indie/alternative artists. Strokes, Muse, Arctic Monkeys and Tame Impala would make for a great show

Como era boa essa época, música boa, os melhores de todos os tempos.
I was on holiday on a tiny Greek island with my girlfriend and we weren’t sure if we could find a tv to view live aid on, so before we left the uk I gave her Mum a dozen VHS tapes and said “Record EVERYTHING”, and god bless her she did. I’ve still got those VHS tapes..........but lost the girlfriend 30+ years ago, oh well 😜
i was on a tiny Greek island (Zante) when it was on aswell!
@@straitusquo .........small world, it was Zakynthos (Zante) where we were, staying just outside of Laganas, it was a nice quiet island 36 years ago. We searched everywhere to find a hotel or bar where Live Aid would be shown on TV, we never found one. I guess satellite transmissions weren’t quite up to it back then.
I watched all of the VHS tapes literally back to back once we got home.
@@BazzerObama i was in Argassi 1 bar no tele..
Woww! Sounds like you should’ve dated the mom
What a good mum!
This footage is priceless! Look at them, in a world of their own. I would honestly hate to intrude. Just happy to sit back and observe them all.
Others have been more around but good to see Status Quo. Seeing Paul Young signing for Phil Collins' kids is also fun. Happy that I saw this concert in my youth.. god everyone was so younger then
David Bowie - all smiles until he realizes he has to go on after Queen
Queen blew EVERYONE away that day!
Hahahaha yeah i would feel the same if i was him
nope. No one knew what was about to come. Queen went through a rough time until that night... And that's exactly why they "opened" for Bowie
David Bowie could have done anything and everyone would have loved him. Bowie was the hero in the UK that day. Nobody had marked a generation in that country more in the last 15 years. He was a hero. Queen were his apprentices.
@@OnlyGoodMusic_ I’m not hating on Bowie - he’s one of my musical heroes. Just saying having to go on stage after a masterpiece performance like Queen at Live Aid is a tough ask. Even for a legend like Bowie.
I was glued to the tv that day - so fun to see some backstage action. A glimpse of Bowie and Linda - fab! ♥️🤘🏼♥️
Absolutely fantastic - wow wow wow, aged 16 when watching this live was unbelievable!!!!
7:05 Watching Paul Young being photographed while the Dire Straits are performing "Money for nothing" in the background... it was a completely normal thing that particular day.
Thanks for uploading just sent to my friend Molly... her dad is Midge Ure!
wow!
That’s cool, but he’s only shown for a couple of seconds in the very beginning. 😞
@@ItIsJustJudy Yes, real shame about that. Man who practically made it happen got lost in the shuffle.
Greatest day in music history!!

I think Woodstock had a much bigger impact on society and on history
Great to see something right before the best rock concert ever!
Wow that was a fantastic day. And to have this video about 'backstage' is brilliant.
Thanks for sharing
How gorgeous did Paula Yates look back then, so sad what happened in later years to the family.
It’s not like Paula had nothing to do with it
Yeah she was a bit of a nutjob though ...I bumped into her on a secluded beach in the south west of Western Australia when she was hiding out from the press when all the drama was happening with her affair with Michael Hutchence and I said hello to her ! and she asked me who I thought she was " do I know you " kinda thing and I said I used to watch her on Morning TV show she presented when I was living in London ! we had a bit of a chat and then moved on ...Not long after she was dead !
And her cute toddler, walking around her Dad, clinging to him! Was that Peaches? So tragic things took a turn for the worse some years later.

@@marjol3in probably where the real party was at! xx
The most iconic bit is Elton John talking with Nils Lofgren, who was probably wandering around unnoticed, but in reality probably one of the real unsung heroes of rock (and much more).
Right?? Crazy seeing him there.
elton was in a mood considering that his begonias were blown away by the helicopter that was to pick him up. MY FUCKING BEGONIAS!!!!!!! I JUST PLANTED THEM!!!!!!!
