    Thanks Maliek! This was something that was NOT set up by default! I needed something as I was all ready to ditch this program, as my workplace asked me to produce a promo video for when we reopen again, And PD for the first real time kept hanging and crashing constantly. Forums were no help, (loads of other people just saying 'me too'. One suggestion was to uninstall GeForce experience.
    I'd even downloaded a trial of DaVinci Resolve and was about to learn from scratch how to use that.
    Following along with this video, my GPU was running at 1% before the adjustment, so it would make sense that with all the clips I had to use, and High quality photos, it was a lot to expect the CPU to do on its own.
    Another great tutorial, perfectly explained again, I bet a LOT of people never knew this one. Appreciated as always.

      @@PDU_Tutorials This will never work with a laptop unless you buy one of the $4,000 mobile desktops that do not possess an integrated GPU. The issue stems from the way power director is coded and how it "sees" video cards. Laptops no matter how fancy are designed to have the GPU piggybaack off the integrated GPU which power director is unable to see past. Quite simply power director cannot be made to see 2 GPU's it picks the one that is universal which is the integrated GPU.

I am wondering if this setting will allow users to be able to “watch” the rendering in video playback speed without audio like you were able to do with earlier versions of PowerDirector. Not all projects are able to utilize the GPU. On the produce tab, select "Profile Analyzer" and see which profile it recommends. If on the "Best Matched Format" tab, you have % "as source" higher % than the one on the "Intelligent SVRT" % on the "Workload..." tab, then choose one that has better %. It will either use CPU or GPU to produce, and expedite process. I maybe wrong, but learning by trial / error.
      What I'm really confused is that PD has Intel CPU, and Nvidia all over, but don't have AMD CPU/GPU mentioned anywhere. And even when I'm using my AMD HD 7970 GPU, with AMD CPU (FX-8350) on my desktop, my laptop (Dell Inspiron 7000) with Intel CPU Core i5 6xxx series renders faster. It feels like PD is well suited for Intel/Nvidia.
      I'll try again and see if this hypothesis is true. But for my own anecdotal experience, it was. I'm going to try when I get a laptop with Intel CPU+Nvidia GPU soon, and let you know.
      Edit:
      th-cam.com/video/7LhR5EWcpp4/w-d-xo.html
      "Best Settings for Fast Video Rendering"
      I got my tips from this video; and explains way better than my jibber. And also has some technical specs regarding AMD, Intel, NVidia and what they can render, etc.
      FYI, some Intel or AMD integrated(onboard) GPUs are better than older dedicated GPU, and I don't know the efficacy of that compared to dedicated. However, Intel's hyperthreading does help significantly when it comes to rendering videos; namely Core-i7, or newer gen. Core-i5. (read it somewhere at video editing site).

    Great video .. is the GPU used during video editing, adding effects, previewing etc? That seems to slow down a lot as you add more effects. So, this part is dependent on CPU and RAM then? Please clarify as that would be great to unnderstand if I need a RAM upgrade or CPU upgrade. Thanks a bunch, MR. GURU of PD!

    • @PDU_Tutorials
      @PDU_Tutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need more RAM and a faster processor. Your systems RAM modules help your processor work more efficiently. The more room the processor has to store data in that temporary memory, the more things your computer can do at once (more effects, preview video, etc.).

    @EyeCycled 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Maliek. First I have PD16 and not 18 (still unconvinced the upgrade is worth for what I need, maybe this will change my mind). I have a rather old Dell XPS 15 (4th Gen i7) which has 2 GPUs: An Intel and a nVidia one. I followed your steps and to my surprise I saw a significant increase in the use of the nVidia GPU while playing the tracks in the timeline, however, when I went into producing the video task manager sowed practically NO use of neither the nVidia nor the Intel one with CPU usage at 100%. The strange thing is that with HW accelaration ON and these changes PD16 doesn't give me any acceleration option in the video production interface. The Intel one (which was always there) is greyed out (disabled). If I undo the changes PD16 let's me select the Intel HD acceleration option from the video production interface and I can see it uses the Intel GPU to a higher than 50% most of the time. I timed producing a video with both options and there were no significant changes in video enconding speed. I am tending to keep the default Intel settings as at least it leaves the CPU to other things, but I am puzzled by why PD16 uses the nVidia card for video playback within the app, but not for video enconding. Do you have a clue?

    • @PDU_Tutorials
      @PDU_Tutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No clue. I have noticed that on my machine it uses the GPU for rendering but doesn't seem to use it for playback/preview while editing. If anyone else knows the answer to this please feel free to chime in.
      BTW, if you are doing fine with PD 16 no need to upgrade. Wait until there are features in the program that will add value to your editing or the output of your videos.

    Was thinking of upgrading my GTX 1060 6GB .....BUT .. PowerDirector seems to be hardly using much of the GPU at all!
    In rendering a 5 min 1080p video with a couple of effects the usage of the GPU core is only 10% and the GPU video engine on average is about 25% .. that's it!
    It is ALL CPU which keeps going fulltime at 95-98% throughout the rendering. My hardware acceleration shows up as nVidia CUDA so no problem there and I got all settings ok.
    Some GPU is being used obviously but not enough to warrant a high end card beyond what I got.
    Wondering if it this generally the case or do you need to be working with 4K and a lot of effects for the GPU to kick in much more?
    In any case, seems pointless for the 1080p platform which is what is the most common out there right now.

      @@PDU_Tutorials What a quick and kind response. Hmmm, I wonder what the issue might be. It most always happens when I'm editing on the timeline. Perhaps I'm moving too quickly and not allowing time for the process to complete. In any case, I'm curious what might be the most critical spec when editing, GPU, Ram, Processor?, as that seems to be when the problem arises. I think my build is more than adequate, but I may be wrong about that. Once again, you are so kind to respond to me on this (i7 8700, Z370 plus motherboard, 16 gb ram, GForce GTX-1050, SSD DRIVES).

      @@PDU_Tutorials Hey there. I'm using an i7, 2gb video card, with 16 gb of ram, SSD HD. Is there a weakness among the setup I've listed that "might" cause instability when building and editing on the PD timeline, which might cause the crashes I mentioned? It only crashes when I'm editing, and has done so and several computer builds in which I have used PD.

    I'm using a laptop with an eGPU - and I changed the Graphics Setting for PowerDirector 18 to High Performance.... Open back up PD18 , checked Hardware Acceleration but Fast Video Rendering is still greyed out. No luck....

    What about power director 15??

  • @neelnarlawar
    @neelnarlawar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Maliek, I went to windows settings and changed power director to my high performance GPU. I also enabled hardware encoding in preferences. However, when I go to the produce tab, it still shows that Intel quicksync thingy. Is it because my graphics card is an entry level one?

    • @PDU_Tutorials
      @PDU_Tutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might be. Could also be the codec you are producing.

    • @neelnarlawar
      @neelnarlawar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, thanks a lot. But even when I tried to change the codec, it still shows the intel quicksync.

      Also, the funny part is that when I use the power saving gpu (intel uhd 4gb) it shows me hardware encoder but its greyed out. And when I choose high performamce (nvidia mx250 2gb) it does not show me the hardware encoder at all

    Hi Maliek, I've been trying, following your instructions and still no Hardware rendering. I'm on a laptop with 2 GPUs (intelhd and Nvidia GeForce), could that be a reason why it's not working? Thanks

    • @PDU_Tutorials
      @PDU_Tutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if that is a reason. If you are using a video codec like H.265 or .AVi it won't work. If you have an external GPU it won't work.

      If you have an internal GPU, you're using a supported file type like MP4, and you did exactly what I did I don't know why it still shows that.

    I have NVIDIA GetForce GTX 1650 and it does not change much. Just about 30% instead of 8% before that. It is a i7, 32GB RAM.

      Windows didn't find a newer driver. So I went to NVIDIA and on the site is advised to download a different driver for "Video" etc. I did so. Now it reaches 45% on testing. The difference is: the one is for GAMES, the other (mine) is to be STUDIO.
