Bought one of these for my 84 Scottsdale K30 w/4spd in 1988. Had several problems with the electronic box. Each time, Gearvendors Customer Support shipped replacement overnight. The 3rd time they shipped me an improved control box and it was flawless until 1997 when I sold the rig.
Ha good luck. They told me they don't recommend it for 450s and 550s. Even with the commercial reservoir they said nope to the 550. Their reason was that if you let off the accelerator and coast the pump will starve the unit.
It’d be great if you could build a smaller overdrive unit to go between the trans and transfer case (like a doubler box would) to reduce overall length.

I found the same. Most arrogant tech I have ever talked to. The computer system in about 1990 has terrible connections so I want to just put an on off switch to it. I guess a hot wire on an on off switch should do it.
So, it depends on what 5 speed Spicer model you have, if it's a direct drive 5th or overdrive 5th and what the overdrive ratio is. If you're running a direct drive 5 speed then with the 7.11 rear end ratio, you're looking at a total gear ratio of 5.5458 : 1 in 5th which should bump up the top speed to about the early 70 mph range (70-75) In regards to durability, these units are in 2000 - 3000hp drag cars so I don't think a two ton will hurt it.
The video I saw of the guy with the 4x4 and gear vendors it looks like they bolt it to the back of the transfer case and you can't use it in four-wheel drive
They only will install the on tail of transfer case... (only can be used in 2wd) I asked a few years back about one between the transmission & transfer case but they wont build it..

I was wondering if it would work on a 2 ton truck hauling loads with a spicer 5 speed. 7:11 rear gears. Top speed of my truck is around 55 to 60 MPH.
