She not only has control over herself and her voice, she has control over the band, that’s why she is not dwarfed by the band, they are accompanying her, she is not accompanying them!

Val, this reaction is a joy. Jazz is the musical language Angelina grew up with, understands, and has mastered. We often say that she is so good now, just wait for her grownup voice. That’s true, but she is already great, even though still a child!

What a great video on Angelina. Your world of knowledge concerning vocalists is incredible. Thanks for the insight and complete overview on this cover, which I also feel is one of her best. I am a Pianist-Composer, but a keyboardist in the 60´s, where I toured with a female singer. I have been hypnotized by Angelina, her sophistication, and her pure ness of artistry. Yes it can be taught, but this works on a much higher level. I watch her disappear into her performance, oblivious to the surroundings. We are lucky she is here, and we are all lucky To be here with her.

In case no one else mentioned it, Angelina does the arrangements for her songs - doesn't hesitate to tell an orchestra she wants something different! The brass players were her regular band for some time at this point, you can see them on lots of videos. I don't know about the string players. Thanks for an insightful reaction!

In regards to Angelina’s use of negative space it seems clear to me that her sensitivity and intuition is highly developed for her age. Angelina’s performances clearly display an unusually high level of maturity and professionalism that is the antithesis of the conventional stereotype of a child her age. Her vocal diversity is unique in that the vast majority of vocalists focus on specializing in one particular genre.

  • @voyageur7393

AJ is unique because her voice is extraordinarily beautiful - she was born like that with that rare, unique and extraordinary peculiarity like the sun shines, the water flowing or the birds flying in the sky.
There is no point in wondering how this is possible - it makes no sense -
Who wonders why the sun shines so beautifully, or the birds fly so magnificent? - yet it's extraordinary and unique but that's how it is.
The greatest talent and genius is that of life that can create this.
AJ was born with this singing talent like composing Mozart or others that are also unique for example - there is nothing to try to understand it is like that - It is beautiful to listen to him sing like watching the stars shine in the sky and it's not possible to imitate her even when working around the clock - AJ knows that and that's why she keeps it simple, natural and humble when she sings because she knows she did nothing special to have this talent there and move everyone. We must also learn to keep it simple, natural and humble by listening to this kind of beautiful voice without idolizing it as I see it a lot. This voice is magical and humble and it is a simple gift of life.

Here's a girl with 5 octave range and the ability to apply any part of it, at any time,
depending on what the composition calls for. Add to that a soul/blues/jazz inner
being that was first noticed by her grandmother when she was 1-1/2 and you have
someone who will dazzle the listening public for the rest of her singing career. I
don't care if it's James Brown. Whitney, Adele, Lana Del Ray or just about anyone else,
she 'kills it'. Heck, she even sang a Japanese song in honor of her grandfather when
she visited in Japan. That audience said her fluency was impeccable. Did read that
her mother and uncle were raised in Japan.

Yes, she is a boss on stage. You articulated what I was seeing but couldn't express. Yes, she does create emotions from negative space in a masterful way. Thank you for your insights. I remember stumbling across this piece several years ago and playing it over and over in disbelief. How was it even possible that she could deliver such a powerful, nuanced performance? I wanted to run out and show strangers on the street. It's nice to see a voice teacher corroborate my belief that we witnessed a very special demonstration of talent here.
You would enjoy her version of "It's A Man's World" two years later when she was about 12. The boss is in and she's at work. th-cam.com/video/HEm7tGrjIKk/w-d-xo.html

Great review. One thing that impressed me about this performance was that there didn't appear to be a conductor, and the orchestra was spread out around the stage, so they did a really good job keeping it all together. I've heard other commentators refer to how relaxed Angelina is during this performance. She really appears to just feel the music effortlessly.

Sir, I am late to the party, sorry, Angelina "conducted" the whole thing while rehearsing and with her hand gestures. The brass section are musicians/friends she did a lot of performances over the years. As she is THE BOSS on stage (adoringly nicknamed by the band of the "I put a spell on you" video. The orchestra listens intently to her "wishes and suggestions". Time and time again, they discovered AJ´s uncanny instinctfor arrangement. Stay save and healthy.

I am so happy for her I have been crying for days. Republic has said they plan to make her their #1 priority artist and push forward a huge global promotion. She's never in a hurry. Doesn't it just make you happy? I saw an interview when she was 8 or 9 in Japan and they asked her to listen to maybe a choir of Japanese kids and to "brutally honest." She didn't want to do it, but she finally said, "They could practice a little, and I hope they have a great festival." (That's from memory.) I can just imagine her bringing her vocal genius, her discipline, and her kindness to that answer.

Favorites are something one can't debate. Personally mine is when she sang "Always on my Mind" in tribute to her grandfather shortly after he had died. It's far from technically perfect. She loses both the lyrics and her composure at the end. But in my 60 years I've never been as fully enveloped in the emotional message of a song.

Sometimes we don't know why we love her singing so much on a technical level and you so professionally and eloquently brought some of that to light. Also her beautiful personality and Consciousness is manifested through her singing as well. which makes her even more unique and appealing especially at her age. Thank you and looking forward to more of your reactions for Angelina.

One day, you'll find her outdoor version of this, without the sassy brass, but with more of a rock-band. It starts off weak because, in daylight, a singer sees so many distractions - from the entire audience. But once Angelina gets past that, that performance's climax is even more powerful.

  • @alberttenfoot
    @alberttenfoot 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Thank you for another excellent reaction to my favourite singer. I feel that it was at age 10 that Angelina shed all "childishness" in her voice. From the age of 7 - 9+ she was at a level which no other singer of a comparable age would have been able to meet. Her confidence and ability to engage her audience without any apparent effort was extraordinary. To use a well-worn phrase which I don't particularly like, by age 10 she was "at another level"
By the way this is your 15th reaction to Angelina and on checking your channel I saw that you had already reacted to Angelina singing "Feeling Good" at the Summer concert on the border between Norway and Sweden. I cannot make up my mind which one I prefer>
In his comment below, John Tracy gives a link to what is, to my mind, the most heart and gut-wrenching and emotional performance she has given to date. I hope you will consider reacting to it.

It's like when you watch a fantastic ice skater when they get past competition age--they may not be able to do all the huge jumps, but the way they carve space and use time is mesmerizing. (Of course Angelina can also do "the jumps", but she uses them only when appropriate.)

Thank you for your reaction to this song by Angelina at 10 and you heard her sing the Howlin’ Wolf at 8 years old and she was able to do it then. She is amazing. She has her own style and does not compromise her convictions. Thank you again!

I love the little squeaky on the end of the word life, ('it's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life')you'll know what I mean. Angelina has never not been in charge. And the hand gestures are on point. I call it vocal sculpture. The conductor on her Put A Spell On You said when she wants changes she calls them wishes, so I wish the horns would do this here, or I wish the piano was a little louder, that kind of thing. She is never mean or even cross if something isn't sounding right she will work with whoever until they are both happy. You don't start singing Jazz at one and half, and not be a special brain that starts figuring things out and making changes based on what they hear to be true for them. Though they are completely different in execution they have the same unfailing instincts about music where it comes to them and their performance. Angelina and Daneliya Tuleshova are twins daughters from different mothers. These two are moving to the head of the class in a hurry. They both are able to convey the emotions of a song directly to the hearts of the listeners That's why their music has the impact that it does, and it's all in the details of the song. The instinct to know where extra notes are needed and when they are not.
    Thanks for your reaction.

I agree, Danelyia Tuleshova is very talented, very trained, with interesting textures to her voice. But I have difficulty listening to her performances since I heard her tell an interviewer that she suffers horrible stage fright before performances. Debilitating, paralyzing. I hate to think my watching her increases the odds of her suffering further.
Angelina, OTOH, seems very comfortable on stage, and I've never seen or heard that she is not happy to be there, in fact she's declared that to interviewers.

@@lengould9262 Angelina has always believed she is supposed to be a singer and has no reason to be afraid..Daneliya gets nervous when she is being judged, but when she is singing to be singing it doesn't seem to matter how many people are watching she smiles a lot. I feel for her too, but she had a major breakthrough at AGT when she sang with Ava Max who I think told her that Daneliya absolutely belongs where she is going. Her attitude has exuded confidence. Plus she has moved on from those talent shows I think. She has signed with an upstart record label with major connections to Sony and it's distrubusion network. They plan to make Daneliya their flagship star. All I can say is they better treat her well or they will regret it. There are a lot of Daneliya supporters. Well I've said enough.

Floor Jansen did release a song from Stef Bos from the show "Beste Zangers 2020" on youtube in her own version yesterday. The translation from Dutch to English is:
Title of the song: 'Is this called later
    '
We once played hide and seek
During the break in the square
    We had big dreams
    Because we were still small
    One became a football player
    The other became a hero
    We believed in the future
    Because the teacher told us:
You’re able to become what you want
As long as you know all your homework
But you have to wait patiently
Until you’ve grown into an adult
    Is this called later
Is this called later, when you’re grow up
    A diploma full of lies
That says you 're an adult
    Is this called later
Is this called later, when you’re grown up
I do not understand a bit of life
I still dont know who I am’
    Is this called later
We still play hide and seek
But not in the square anymore
And most of us have become
What they did not want to be
    We're all adults
Who’s not gone, will be seen
And I would be able to see
All that chaos in clear now
But I can not see a thing
    And the darkness scares me
    Mommy, mommy ...
Would you please let the light on in the corridor
    Is this called later
Is this called later, when you’re grown up
    A diploma full of lies
Stating that you know the truth
    Is this called later
Is this called later, when you’re grown up
I do not understand a bit of life
I still do not know who I am
    Is this called later
