There is an audaciousness in this performance. Normally we see the humble, the introspection, and the duty to the calling side of her. Here she lets rip, and it works. (Say what you will about our Simon, but he did recognise, and duly acknowledged, her talent)
I dont know about Simon. The danger with overconfident music industry guys is they would try to press their ideas and style on her, destroying the unique selling point she has. And worst of all, once you've beaten it out of her, I very much doubt you could bring it back. Ever. So that deal with Republic Records looks like a huge blessing so far, since they mostly seem to let her do her thing.
We just keep praying for her safety, and that those around her share the wisdom to continue to compliment her unique talent. We so appreciate the family's special sharing of our preferred musical genius.

What's amazing about her is all the preparation, hard work, study, and practice is hidden and what you are left with is a powerful and seemingly effortless performance that puts a smile on your face and a tear in your eye at the same time. I truly believe Angelina is her own BEST and "most exacting" evaluator of her music. In the few seconds between the end of the notes, and the curtsey, the Evaluator Angelina has already given her A.J. approval rating inside her head.
Excellent reaction, Valerie. I completely agree with your evaluation of Angelina’s performance. It is amazing to see how she is not the least bit timid or self conscience about being in that setting. Your spot on about Angelina being a special person and a uniquely gifted individual. IMO, She has no equal. I have never witnessed anyone else her age that has her extraordinary vocal versatility, sensitivity, self confidence, maturity, vocal range and vision. I get the distinct impression that Angelina is one of the very rare and generational talents that has the unique ability to mentally go to a different plane of existence when she performs. That unique ability allows her to channel music from where her mind goes through her body and out of her mouth. There was another extraordinary musical talent that gave that same exact impression when he performed and that was blues guitarist and singer, Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Thanks Valerie, for another great analysis of Angelina's cover of It's A Man's World at this Album release concert. She really turns on the after burners on this one. Although she recorded her album, It's Magic, with this band months earlier when she was still 11, They had never heard her use such power before. I always say when she goes live, her voice becomes turbocharged. It's just stunning!! Always love your reactions to Angelina's vocal artistry. She's a Once-in-a-lifetime artist for me.

There is an even more awesome performance of this from the Kongsberg Jazz Festival, same year. Audio only, but very clean sound straight from the sound board, with a jazz band that is lower in the mix. That whole concert is ridiculously good!
Hi. The band is the top Norwegian military band. She was the featured vocalist on their 2018 album. Watching the conductor on that one long powerfun note, I think she went with her feelings and improvised a bit. They certainly had rehearsed, yet he looked at her like "oh, yeah!" As the judge in NGT said, she is music

I believe this same performance was recorded for her first CD “It’s Magic” with a much better mix between her and the orchestra. After several tres, I finally received a copy through Amazon a few weeks ago.
There was no chance that she was going to sign with Simon. Although it needs to be pointed out that Simon, as well as the other judges, absolutely loved Angelina. Had she been willing, he would have signed her on the spot. She's right where she needs to be. Signing with Republic Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music (the biggest company in the music business), a company that values the freedom of their signees (ask Taylor Swift), and that can promote and market her as their "priority new artist". And you are so right Valerie, she is truly one of a kind. There simply is no body else who possesses her unique qualities. Sometimes I feel myself wanting her to reach stardom right now. Then I remind myself that she is just 14, and even though she has already accomplished so much, there is plenty of time for her star to shine brightly around the world. It will be interesting to see how her voice evolves further. In my opinion the one year gap between AGTC and Million Miles makes it clearly recognizable she's not at a standstill.
Can you imagine if she sang this, not in an outdoor setting but in a setting like a church? She would have had blown the audience to somewhere they never reached before. Simply amazing, to the point where not even The Godfather of Soul could compete against her version. Very few non-Black performers could impress the audiences I remember being at the famed Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NY. She would commanded a standing ovation, for sure.

On rehearsals she maybe didn't sing this song with nearly as this much power so the director was maybe a little bit surprised. They rehearsed indoors I guess so the environment was totally different. Also I think Angelina did make a slight change for her singing part in the end of the song in this actual concert so that maybe too was a surprise for the director. This is for me the best vocal performance for 12 years old I have ever heard. There exists also audio only version with a normal jazz band for this same song in the same year and the audio quality in that one is superb (soundboard recording I guess). It's really shame that there doesn't exist a professional recording from this army orchestra concert (as far as I know).
I always like the perspective of Angelina from someone with a "life of music" like you. I had a"life of construction and carpentry". Never took the time for music but when I heard Angelina, something moved in my soul like never before. Now I listen to music a lot - especially love Angelina's voice.
Good to see you back with Angelina Valerie. As you said, she is one of a kind, breaking the mold for child singers as we know it, setting a new music standard I think. Would like to see more from you with Angelina as I really enjoy your reactions and analysis, which I am quite sure many of us Angelina fans do.
Everyone talks about her voice. For extremely good reasons. Her musicality though. I have seen tons of instrumental prodigies. These dream-kids who do amazing things on violin or piano (they are most often found in classical music solo instruments - but one also find them on electric guitars/drums etc). During their early teens - most of them speed up extremely technical pieces - because that is their strength. When one slows them down to music demanding more expressiveness - demanding better ability to know where to accent and syncopate - they typically demonstrate a lack of this thing we like to call "maturity". This girl has for some reason she may not even know herself consistently slowed down old standard classics. While her trade always was low-tempo, to begin with. And she performs these songs slow without making them feel "sticky". I think it is interesting to consider in this setting. She has the Norwegian Military Staff Ensemble pumping out some of the best brass on the planet behind her. They have existed for 200 years as the biggest professional wind-band in Norway. The Royal Guard band is amazing. But that is based on the best 18-20-year-old instrumental talents serving conscript. The Staff-band, however - that is made up the best professional musicians we have. A typical kid on any stage will typically speed up a bit. One is self-aware. One is afraid to bore the audience. Heck - daddies giving a speech in their kid's wedding will often wear off into weird tempos because of emotions and nervousness. This girl is consequently singing the song in the tempo that the song needs for her vision - for her interpretation. Michael could do that as a child with Jackson five. And that is hight praise - while remembering that I think Angelina has been allowed to grow up with a lot less ... stress.

Hi. There are several points about Angelina that I would like you to address (I am a musical composer). I tell you from my point of view and why they make this teenager (perhaps) the best singer of all time. 1) Plasticity. She can "imitate" any singer with her voice, imitating means having the ability to "absorb" from said singer colors, textures, musical smells, feelings, that's why I say that Freddie Mercury could only be Freddie Mercury but not Amy's textures Whinehuse or Elvis Presley and so vice versa. There is no singer of today, famous (Adele, etc) or in musical growth who has this capacity 2) humility. Absolutely all the singers at this moment personify the music, they create a show of everything they do, instead Angelina seems like a teenager who is continuously learning, practicing. How long is she going to practice? I don't know ... when she presents videos on TH-cam and fans or haters admire or criticize they don't understand that she is only practicing, she is a girl who practices music, nothing more than that. I am impressed that she also practices when she is on stage, and it seems that she only does performances until now to give herself "little tastes" like going to AGT: SHE JUST WANTED TO SING HER IDOL Simon Cowell (AS SHE SAID IT) SING QUINCY JONES OR SING WITH THE NORWEGIAN BAND TO SHOW THE POWER THAT HIS SONG HAS (LITTLE LIKES THAT THIS GIRL GIVES HIMSELF IN LIFE) 3) There is something that very few Reactors have mentioned: she is continuously playing (if she is not the reincarnation of Elvis Presley I do not know what it is) I explain: at the moment she connects with some musicians of the orchestra and exchanges gestures, she often looks at the camera intently because she knows that someone is looking at her from this side, other times she is so possessed in the narration of the song that it is difficult for her to return to reality, it remains as in a strange state of regression 4) she is a musical teacher, she makes small corrections to the original musicians, without changing her style or original narration and she does it with n much respect. Be careful, to make a correction to composers like Freddie Mercury YOU HAVE TO BE VERY GOOD (in Bohemian Rhapsody he showed Mercury that his song would sound much more universal with his arrangements because the rock "wave" attracts more rock lovers or in GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD corrected Elton John's performance and perhaps - excuse the audacity - also correcting author Bernie Taupin's melodic line) 5) universality. Angelina Jordan has an ongoing obsession with making music for all ages. NEVER SAW SOMETHING LIKE THIS, a musician (in this case sings an author) who is obsessed with the fact that music stops being fragmented into styles. How to achieve this? making the important thing is the dimensionality of the song, a singer whose purpose is to teach that singing is not a gymnastics, singing is not an Olympic vocal chord tournament, music is not a stage show: MUSIC IS SIMPLY ONE BEAUTIFUL SONG TO SHARE. I truly believe Angelina is her own BEST and "most exacting" evaluator of her music. In the few seconds between the end of the notes, and the curtsey, the Evaluator Angelina has already given her A.J. approval rating inside her head.

This is the type of magic that forms by listening to great soul artists at a young age. You can hear the influence of Billie Holiday in every breath.
Angelina is now almost 15, has grown to be 6 ft tall, signed a contract with Republic Records, and released her original song “Million Miles”.
When you watch until the video ends, you can see the band giving her standing ovations!!! And this band is Norways military music corps.
Excellent reaction, Valerie. I completely agree with your evaluation of Angelina’s performance. It is amazing to see how she is not the least bit timid or self conscience about being in that setting. Your spot on about Angelina being a special person and a uniquely gifted individual. IMO, She has no equal. I have never witnessed anyone else her age that has her extraordinary vocal versatility, sensitivity, self confidence, maturity, vocal range and vision. I get the distinct impression that Angelina is one of the very rare and generational talents that has the unique ability to mentally go to a different plane of existence when she performs. That unique ability allows her to channel music from where her mind goes through her body and out of her mouth. There was another extraordinary musical talent that gave that same exact impression when he performed and that was blues guitarist and singer, Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Thanks Valerie, for another great analysis of Angelina's cover of It's A Man's World at this Album release concert. She really turns on the after burners on this one. Although she recorded her album, It's Magic, with this band months earlier when she was still 11, They had never heard her use such power before. I always say when she goes live, her voice becomes turbocharged. It's just stunning!! Always love your reactions to Angelina's vocal artistry. She's a Once-in-a-lifetime artist for me.
The conductor and the band made an album with AJ and he's still is surprised at her singing.
Valerie many thanks for returning again to Angelina's world. I think Angelina may have a future singing the blues hehe. Angelina is the new Queen of Jazz and Soul but will likely add more genres to that list. I greatly look forward to your next reaction to this one of a kind singer.
There is an even more awesome performance of this from the Kongsberg Jazz Festival, same year. Audio only, but very clean sound straight from the sound board, with a jazz band that is lower in the mix. That whole concert is ridiculously good!
Hi. The band is the top Norwegian military band. She was the featured vocalist on their 2018 album. Watching the conductor on that one long powerfun note, I think she went with her feelings and improvised a bit. They certainly had rehearsed, yet he looked at her like "oh, yeah!" As the judge in NGT said, she is music

I believe this same performance was recorded for her first CD “It’s Magic” with a much better mix between her and the orchestra. After several tres, I finally received a copy through Amazon a few weeks ago.
The CD is studio recorded in Rainbow Studios in Oslo (she was only 11), this concert is approx. 8 months later.
There was no chance that she was going to sign with Simon. Although it needs to be pointed out that Simon, as well as the other judges, absolutely loved Angelina. Had she been willing, he would have signed her on the spot. She's right where she needs to be. Signing with Republic Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music (the biggest company in the music business), a company that values the freedom of their signees (ask Taylor Swift), and that can promote and market her as their "priority new artist". And you are so right Valerie, she is truly one of a kind. There simply is no body else who possesses her unique qualities. Sometimes I feel myself wanting her to reach stardom right now. Then I remind myself that she is just 14, and even though she has already accomplished so much, there is plenty of time for her star to shine brightly around the world. It will be interesting to see how her voice evolves further. In my opinion the one year gap between AGTC and Million Miles makes it clearly recognizable she's not at a standstill.
Can you imagine if she sang this, not in an outdoor setting but in
a setting like a church? She would have had blown the audience
to somewhere they never reached before. Simply amazing, to the
point where not even The Godfather of Soul could compete against
her version. Very few non-Black performers could impress the
audiences I remember being at the famed Apollo Theatre in Harlem,
NY. She would commanded a standing ovation, for sure.

On rehearsals she maybe didn't sing this song with nearly as this much power so the director was maybe a little bit surprised. They rehearsed indoors I guess so the environment was totally different. Also I think Angelina did make a slight change for her singing part in the end of the song in this actual concert so that maybe too was a surprise for the director. This is for me the best vocal performance for 12 years old I have ever heard. There exists also audio only version with a normal jazz band for this same song in the same year and the audio quality in that one is superb (soundboard recording I guess). It's really shame that there doesn't exist a professional recording from this army orchestra concert (as far as I know).

I always like the perspective of Angelina from someone with a "life of music" like you. I had a"life of construction and carpentry". Never took the time for music but when I heard Angelina, something moved in my soul like never before. Now I listen to music a lot - especially love Angelina's voice.

Good to see you back with Angelina Valerie. As you said, she is one of a kind, breaking the mold for child singers as we know it, setting a new music standard I think. Would like to see more from you with Angelina as I really enjoy your reactions and analysis, which I am quite sure many of us Angelina fans do.
Everyone talks about her voice. For extremely good reasons.
Her musicality though. I have seen tons of instrumental prodigies. These dream-kids who do amazing things on violin or piano (they are most often found in classical music solo instruments - but one also find them on electric guitars/drums etc). During their early teens - most of them speed up extremely technical pieces - because that is their strength. When one slows them down to music demanding more expressiveness - demanding better ability to know where to accent and syncopate - they typically demonstrate a lack of this thing we like to call "maturity".
This girl has for some reason she may not even know herself consistently slowed down old standard classics. While her trade always was low-tempo, to begin with. And she performs these songs slow without making them feel "sticky".
I think it is interesting to consider in this setting. She has the Norwegian Military Staff Ensemble pumping out some of the best brass on the planet behind her. They have existed for 200 years as the biggest professional wind-band in Norway. The Royal Guard band is amazing. But that is based on the best 18-20-year-old instrumental talents serving conscript. The Staff-band, however - that is made up the best professional musicians we have.
A typical kid on any stage will typically speed up a bit. One is self-aware. One is afraid to bore the audience. Heck - daddies giving a speech in their kid's wedding will often wear off into weird tempos because of emotions and nervousness.
This girl is consequently singing the song in the tempo that the song needs for her vision - for her interpretation. Michael could do that as a child with Jackson five. And that is hight praise - while remembering that I think Angelina has been allowed to grow up with a lot less ... stress.
Never loved this song, but always great to see you react to her. Have you looked at her When We Were Young or Young and Beautiful or Happier?

Hi. There are several points about Angelina that I would like you to address (I am a musical composer). I tell you from my point of view and why they make this teenager (perhaps) the best singer of all time. 1) Plasticity. She can "imitate" any singer with her voice, imitating means having the ability to "absorb" from said singer colors, textures, musical smells, feelings, that's why I say that Freddie Mercury could only be Freddie Mercury but not Amy's textures Whinehuse or Elvis Presley and so vice versa. There is no singer of today, famous (Adele, etc) or in musical growth who has this capacity 2) humility. Absolutely all the singers at this moment personify the music, they create a show of everything they do, instead Angelina seems like a teenager who is continuously learning, practicing. How long is she going to practice? I don't know ... when she presents videos on TH-cam and fans or haters admire or criticize they don't understand that she is only practicing, she is a girl who practices music, nothing more than that. I am impressed that she also practices when she is on stage, and it seems that she only does performances until now to give herself "little tastes" like going to AGT: SHE JUST WANTED TO SING HER IDOL Simon Cowell (AS SHE SAID IT) SING QUINCY JONES OR SING WITH THE NORWEGIAN BAND TO SHOW THE POWER THAT HIS SONG HAS (LITTLE LIKES THAT THIS GIRL GIVES HIMSELF IN LIFE) 3) There is something that very few Reactors have mentioned: she is continuously playing (if she is not the reincarnation of Elvis Presley I do not know what it is) I explain: at the moment she connects with some musicians of the orchestra and exchanges gestures, she often looks at the camera intently because she knows that someone is looking at her from this side, other times she is so possessed in the narration of the song that it is difficult for her to return to reality, it remains as in a strange state of regression 4) she is a musical teacher, she makes small corrections to the original musicians, without changing her style or original narration and she does it with n much respect. Be careful, to make a correction to composers like Freddie Mercury YOU HAVE TO BE VERY GOOD (in Bohemian Rhapsody he showed Mercury that his song would sound much more universal with his arrangements because the rock "wave" attracts more rock lovers or in GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD corrected Elton John's performance and perhaps - excuse the audacity - also correcting author Bernie Taupin's melodic line) 5) universality. Angelina Jordan has an ongoing obsession with making music for all ages. NEVER SAW SOMETHING LIKE THIS, a musician (in this case sings an author) who is obsessed with the fact that music stops being fragmented into styles. How to achieve this? making the important thing is the dimensionality of the song, a singer whose purpose is to teach that singing is not a gymnastics, singing is not an Olympic vocal chord tournament, music is not a stage show: MUSIC IS SIMPLY ONE BEAUTIFUL SONG TO SHARE. GREETINGS TO THE COMMUNITY (I write this not as a fan but as a lover of good music)
