WHO Are These Stargate Atlantis Villains, Really? (Stargate Spec)

  • THE FINAL SEASON of Stargate Atlantis introduced some really cool new characters and antagonists, from a revival of the Asgard to a break-off group of Replicators who were looking to ascend. But maybe the coolest new villains remain nameless, assaulting John Sheppard's team on board the Daedalus in a parallel reality in the episode "The Daedalus Variations."
In this video we're looking at what (little) we know about these aliens, how they were used in the Atlantis comics from American Mythology, and an interesting fan theory about their potential connection to the Wraith.

I think they DO exist in the main Stargate Atlantis universe and just haven't been encountered yet. The reason I think the show producers were heading in this direction is that SYMBOL on the alien's ships & uniforms. Had the series continued, I suspect that the Atlantis expedition would have run across that same symbol at some future point, which would have been an awesome and ominous reveal.

I always believed that those guys were the result of Asgard´s experiments on humans. That thing that they have in theirs heads is something more advanced but similar to what we can see when Daniel met one of them in that toxic planet.

That would be an interesting explanation, it would leave a slight plot hole of how they have ships and the Vanir don’t seem to have a large capacity to build ships. Unless they can reproduce somehow and aren’t a slowly dying race like the Vanir.

Agreed, this just makes the most sense. Especially if they wanted to try to "refresh" SG Atlantis by giving us a new villain to replace the older somewhat stale Wraith.

  • @HogW1ld385

I just prefer the idea they don’t exist in our reality.
If there are infinite universes with infinite outcomes as is stated many times then there would inevitably be those with enemies/races that don’t exist in ours.
Every alternate reality we see in Stargate is basically the same as the main except with whatever crisis is thrown in to show our team what could happen in worst case scenario.
So take out the Wraith and insert a new species and you have an interesting concept (even if we never learn more) and keep with the standard used for alternate realities.

If there are infant universes with infant possibilities, there's also a possibility that the atlanteans are still alive and they have advanced even further in time, there's also a chance they won the war with The Wraith or they never had to create them in the first place, maybe there was no play to outrun.
What kind of people do you think they'd be?
What if they started a show that was on Atlantis with the Ancients on Atlantis, only to realize that it was an alternate reality all along, and say that it was experienced by someone like Daniel Jackson who understands them to a certain degree.
That would be an almost crazy plot twist in the story.

There are many different multiverse theories and some of them have multiple forms of multiverses. It's never definitively said in SG which theory is followed and they use different theories throughtout the series.
Sometimes it's a multiverse by quantum physics where at every point of multiple outcomes, new timelines split off into new universes for each of those outcomes (a tree brancing into an uncountable high number of branches). Sometimes it's multiverses by string theory where a true infinite set of parallel multiverses exist. Sometimes it's mirrored universes where two universes are linked to each other (the ones where it's a problem when 2 of the same people exist inside the same universe). Sometimes it's not clear like with the quantum mirror where it's not clear if they're different universes, dimensions or realities and all 3 imply different scientific theories.
The quantum mirror is probably the most advanced object in the whole SG universe. The stargates transporting matter through space is a complete joke in comparison. Even time manipulation devices are easier since they're in the same spacetime.

Alternate Wraith but a little different to the theory. I believe they are the Vanir introduced in 'First Contact and the Lost Tribe'. What if in that reality instead of them experimenting on the humans of the Pegasus Galaxy they tested on the Wraith? The grey skin, the cybernetic implants, and their ships being more technology the organic all fit the Vanir. While their size and aggressiveness match the Wraith. The Vanir were looking for a way to save their race from extinction and the Wraith were able to live for thousands of years, they are the perfect template for the Vanir to use.

    • @1989Nihil
      @1989Nihil ปีที่แล้ว

Sounds legit. I think the way this could've been achived would be by hacking the Wraith reproduction/cloning facility, while a Queen is in process of creating/birthing new Wraith. And then implement the gained knowledge into their own cloning research, or somehow managing to influence the Queen to create only those masked Wraith, those drones, that are used as foot soliders. They appear to be enough of a blank slate for the Vanir to try and impring their on consciousness onto (hence that chip-thingy), considering the dornes have never been shown to have any personality at all, unlike "Steve", or Todd, or the Queens themselves.

    • @andrewmalinowski6673
      @andrewmalinowski6673 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That sounds like combining the ideas of "alternate Wraith" and "new species," it would make sense even if they appear to be more Wraith-like than the Vanir who'd essentially leaned more towards Loki's emotional distance when it came to how the humans would be affected by their actions

I always thought of them as just another race that exists in the multiverse. It’s much cooler imo that they don’t exist in the main reality as it reminds us that there are infinite conflicts occurring. They could have literally any backstory the audience wants and it can be conspired true since it won’t be revisited. Love that idea.

in my mind if i had to make a story with them, there would be a world far from atlantis, highly advanced but with not many inhabitants, that would be under fire from the wraith, their scientists eventually find a way to capture some of them and experiment on them ( reanimate their corpses etc ) to use them in the war, making effective obedient soldiers that the wraith can't feed on
they are so successful that they end up turning the tide and build a massive army of them, and the war against the wraith eventually truns into full galaxy conquest, in the alternate universe where our team meets them, they grew powerfull enough so that only atlantis and other lantean related world can resist them
this encounter would forshadow a next episode where we either see the remains of that civilization that didn't win in our universe or their experiments backfired on them and there are rogue cybernetic wraith creatures looking to build more of them and start their own campaigns.

If it fits within the narrative line of the story, and can work within the Stargate Universe, I don't see a problem with accepting it. The whole point about being Canon or not doesn't make sense. The episode was about alternative universes, so anything is possible, even a universe in which the comic book is actually a telling of that universes Canon. During these years of drought, it is up to us Stargate fans to keep it alive even when Stargate is not on the mind of the higher-ups. It is up to us to keep the stories and characters in our hearts and mind. We should be encouraging others to ask the question what if? Because sometimes those what ifs actually get turned into stories that let the creators explore new avenues, and paradigms. Sometimes they might just put it in as a one-off. Like in Stargate when they had a character named Martin who forgot his memories of being an alien. Or when they ask a question what if they could travel back in time and they went to the 1960s. That episode added some awesome lore to the universe, while still keeping all the previous stuff Cannon. Executive producers today need all the help they can if they want to rebuild the Stargate brand. And I think having this race created by Janice that were meant to get rid of The Wraith in every universe, would be a good way to tie in all the previous stories, and give a jumping-off point for a lot more possibilities. I think it would be awesome to have a Stargate Multiverse. But I wonder how many zpm modules it would take to make a connection to another universe?

Theory: the aliens are the renegade Asgard, who attempted to integrate Wraith DNA into theirs for its regenerative properties, long life, and superhuman capabilities. In the process though, they have a similar effect to how John Sheppard was affected when he mutated into a Wraith human hybrid, making them hyper aggressive in combination with their hyper intelligencs. Ergo: bigger, stronger, technologically advanced space orcs.

If they are actually a wraith variation, what if theses implants are a way to eliminate their need for feeding somehow?
After all, in our universe, wraith even worked with the Atlantis expedition for that.

The biggest issue with the theory that they're an alternate reality wraith is that the Deadalus in that reality was destroyed in the battle of Asuras. Which means events in that reality played out similarly to our own and only diverged close to or during the battle of Asuras. Which wouldn't be the case if the wraith in their reality were completely different.
What I find most likely is that they're a breakaway group from the wraith, similar to the lost tribe of the Asgard. That they were once wraith, but broke off from the main wraith species long ago and diverged in technology and biology.

This may seem weird to think but, now I'm curious as to what a war between the Ori and the Wraith would have been like. Or even the Replicators going against the Ori and the Wraith. Could it be possible for a a Wraith to infect or even feed on a Pryor of the Ori? Would would Replicators made from Wraith biological technology look like? Would they be easier or harder to kill? Here's a wammy, what if a Gaould took on a Pryor of the Ori that has been turned into a Wraith as a host for itself? Could the three genetics combined even stabilize? I have so many questions!

    • @antonioyeats2149
      @antonioyeats2149 ปีที่แล้ว

Well remember the only reason humanity was so successful against the ori is because the ancients prevented them from using godlike powers directly. I doubt they'd help out replicators or wraith that way but I also doubt the ori would have any particular beef with them as the ori didn't seem interested in going after the asgard.
I think wraith or goauld would get absolutely bodied by ori even if they didn't use direct ascended intervention for some reason if it came to a head on confrontation for whatever reason because the Pryors in of themselves are so strong it'd take the same sort of mcguffan tech that sg1 used, and neither wraith nor goauld are very interested in developing their own tech as they are in acquiring it from other civilizations.
The replicators though, as long as the ori didn't use hax would have a pretty decent chance. They're constantly adapting, innovating and creating altogether new technology. Again though, there's not much motivation for the ori and replicators to clash.

If the Wraith were space vampires then I thought of these guys like space frankensteins and some random Ancient's little project that went awry. I figured they were not indigenous to only that one reality so that they could just show up in the main reality without needing some event to introduce them. I liken it a bit to There But For the Grace of God or Vegas foreshadowing events. The heroes have a heads up on things even if the villains don't.

I totally doubt it. I believe they are a completely different species. Much more cooler looking, and ships and weapons than the Wraith.

My thinking is that they're some sort of created warrior race built by...someone. They seem unapologetically hostile with no sense of self preservation or even curiosity. Something about them remind me of the Zentradi from Robotech.

What if they r a mix of Wrath/Asguard
Or even just the wrath bug and just a Asguard but an Asguard that looked more human back then when the Asguard first got to pegas
We now the Asguard ended up in pegas coz see saw them in those advanced robot suites & they didnt like the Ancients to much so what if the Asguard first went to pegas and found the Wrath bug and used it to save the Asguard as a race.
Those red lights in the big guys head look the same as what the Asguard had when they stepped out of those suites only the lights weren't red.
Just making possible connections but if u think about it it makes alot of sense especially if Atlantis was to have a 6th season like we all thought it would then these guys could of popped up more then with the intro of the Asguards at the end of 5th season.

Wait a sec your voice sounds familiar, but from another Stargate Channel one with far fewer subscribers, you did talk about Stargate a lot on your Channel, when the hell did you start working for gate world?
Yes I remember you dude, you and I would go into a lot of different conversations about stargate, usually really deep questions about the show that most people don't have conversations about, like the Ori actually using Stargates in their own Galaxy.
It was just a theory at the time on my part back then, but I think it's become established given that certain people in Gate world are actually talking about the same thing and admitting it into the lore.

I also remember you putting sometimes fairly cringy things in your videos that didn't exactly fit into the video, but you did it as a form of your comedy, sometimes they hit okay, other times not so much, like you would put something that was an anime that almost nobody knows about who watches Stargate but I think that was according to your generation.

It seems clear to me (assuming what you say is accurate about the writers/producers claim to feature them again) that this is almost certainly just another alien species in Pegasus.
    1. The plan to see more of them makes almost certain that they do exist in our universe and are NOT an alternate evolution of the wraith
    2. The quantum reality drive technology, even if not based on nor related to the quantum mirror would shill be dependent on more similar universes being closer; the wraith having such a completely different evolutionary path would certainly not be in a neighboring alternate universe/reality
    3. How could the wraith like those in our reality be interacting with these guys if they are the wraith (but a variant form)?
    4. This really does not fit with the other inventions of Janus at all, nor of the Ancients in general...
And if they were created by Janus, why would they be hostile to humans?
    Anyway, that's my assessment...
There are some other interesting ideas in the comments! Good job guys!

My fan theory was always that when they created the atlantean Pegasus replicators in an alternate reality those replicators were designed to infest The wraith in some way and it went all wrong and it enhanced the wraith and now instead of feeding on the people of the Pegasus Galaxy. They now had directives to destroy all life

I keep going between the undiscovered aliens and alternate Lantean weapon theories. On the one hand, it annoys me how few aliens are in the Stargate franchise, and I'm all for introducing more even if it's through novels, RPG games or whatever. But the alternate Lantean weapon theory has a very species 8472 vibe of invaders from beyond our galaxy, and I love that too.

There is a perfectly good canon explanation for the lack of genetic variability in the SGverse: 5 million years ago a virus killed everything and everything alive now is the result of Alteran reseeding life in the galaxy. For that, the genetic variability is ok.

  • @matorix003

Well, we know by a book on the grace aliens that they come from their own galaxy and aren’t the furlings but we’re perfectly aware of the 4 great races and so were they of them. I made a similar comment on a video on that race on the SG 2 4 channel
So they disappeared because they had a problem in their own galaxy, what if that problem was a mixture of a cosmic natural disaster and an enemy race?
The cosmic natural disaster would be 2 galaxies colliding with each other and the enemy race would be this Borg race
The Borg race was in their own universe but when the galaxies collided they came in contact with the grace aliens and since their technology matches they clashed for a long time until the grace aliens seemingly defeated them and returned for the brief encounter we see in the episode „grace“. But the Borg aliens returned much faster and fiercer than the grace aliens anticipated almost wiping them out which would explain their genuine absence during the attack of the ori and replicators. Ultimately they defeated the borg aliens once and for all and finally return in the short story „pleasure cruise“ from „far horizons“.
Now that would be for our universe, the parallel universe is different:
In the parallel universe the borg aliens wipe the grace aliens out. With a new found hunger for power they explore outwards their galaxy and find their way to Pegasus where they meet with the Wraith. They defeat the wraith within a few years of their arrival and force the few survivors to live in absolute secrecy. Atlantis gets discovered and SGA is confronted with a galaxy at war meaning all advanced civilisations fighting for their survival against the borg aliens. And that’s where we get to the point we see in the parallel universe
Just made this theory myself but I think it’s p decent

6 hours & this gets over 2k views... the last episode of atlantis aired over 14 years before...
Imagine being in an age where the tech exists to get a channel that reads out scripts penned by chatgpt type of a thing that's been fed all the stargate episodes and asked to write new episodes taking place in alternate realities...
heck I bet there's a market of folks that would pay 10$ a month for new scripts weekly of just that... probably nearly 2k of em already saw this clip before I got here..

The Ancients have a history of altering genetics and letting there experiments get out of hand. The Atlantis crew has been able to capture wraith on many occasions. I think it's another experiment gone wrong. The ancients got ahold of a wraith of at least dna, and tried to find another way to end the war, but just made a different variation. Explains the physical similarly and the atlantician design
