As I've been getting back into wearing makeup, I wanted to say thank you for being such an advocate for getting experimental joy out of one's existing collection. It's inspired me to be more imaginative with how I achieve a desired effect, particularly when all I can think about at the moment is some fancy new product out of my price range.
And that folks is what makes a true makeup declutter worth it! Bravo!

Oooo! That is SOOOO satisfying!!! Oddly, I love it swatched out so much more than how it looks just in the pan...but I guess that just shows the importance of touching and feeling and swatching something and looking at it in it's various forms in light as well.

Now that I only have singles (except my 2 Roen quads and 1 Tom ford cream and powder shadow) making palettes is my favorite thing.
I make a medium sized palette of 15-18 shades to use seasonally. My winter one is heavy on dark blues, silvers, forest greens and frosty purples.
Then I use my tiny palette to play “eyeshadow roulette”. By randomly drawing shadows. Or I use it to make a complimentary palette to my seasonal palette.
I know that for a lot of people “destroying” their beautiful palettes to turn them all into singles is unconscionable. But if you can move past the preciousness of the art on the palettes it can really change your eyeshadow game.

Hannah, I've never been one for makeup, not once in my life, but I've seen your content on and off adjacent to the mindful spending genre. I grew up desperately poor by American standards, and managed to get through college and very ill paying work for my first six years or so in the job market without ever accruing debt. As my peers and I aged, I found out people with much better incomes than I had were actively struggling, and started helping my friends find ways to take care of themselves financially. I'm very logos oriented myself when being persuaded, or having a method explained to me, but I realized that wasn't true for everyone (of course) especially when it comes to money. It's always been a very practical tool for me, one which existed or didn't exist as an available resource and nothing more. The pathos of money was a bit alarming and it took me a long time to know how to speak about it, to understand the drivers of emotional spending, to actively empathize with it, even if I could see how and why it happened. But in the last few months as I've really worked through your backlog recounting your no buy year and the cascading effects of it, things I've never quite wrapped my head around became very clear. Your own careful introspection and very welcome candor about the emotions and drivers that surrounded all your desires and decisions surrounding money have really helped me understand some of the people I care about most who have struggled with similar spending.
Also, as an artist by training and spare time if not by trade anymore, your way of describing color keeps me coming back to listen to you wax poetic about shades in a way even my fellow art students rarely found interesting when I went off on screeds, much less compelled to do themselves. You might find Josef Alber's book Interaction of Color a compelling viewing and reading experience- absolutely do not do a digital version if you take the recommendation. Thanks for being you!

I have to say that these videos are my ultimate comfort watch - the way you describe colors and textures, the way you swatch, the way you build color stories is extremely comforting and satisfying to me on every level, and I find myself watching and rewatching them whenever I need a pick-me-up

Ooo! I do like it! And in looking at the swatches, this is a perfect example of how different colors can look on the eye than they look in the pan.

I'm actually really inspired by the original pull. I feel like that blue matte you edited out would have played so well with that mustard yellow / camel tone. I might combine my Serenity and Untamed palettes together to get the vibe. Interesting. That is not a pairing of palettes I'd have expected to be inspired by.
These videos always make me want to take apart old palettes and get to the colors I actually like. Sometimes the “box” they come in is so deceiving. Seeing them in thier true form, well That is true artistry ❤

Oh my god!! Ima need to make a selfish request: those three middle shades (the black, the white/blue and the gold Chartreuse all in a look together! It'll be different but I can't get them out of my head, it would be so cool to see what you would end up creating. I love the final result and have also loved having the freedom to create my own custom palettes too, so thank you for always sharing ways to add novelty without adding clutter or spending money. Just ordered a Lethal empty palette with a bunch of singles, inspired by this! I have only one palette, Natasha Denona and I love some of the shades but some are just to orange for me. I'm excited to pull out my favorites and leave the rest!

I live in a dry place where the grass is crispy and golden and the green isn't very green. When it's overcast, the sky is a dusty medium grey blue. That's what your first pick of colours looks like to me.

I saw "Stange & dreamy" and got all excited and hit something and lost the screen, but I knew it was Hannah! I lOVE the new palette, I would even try the camel color. It's funny how it makes your other palettes lean rose.
Maybe not you but blue/gold do go together... especially with the shades that bidge... late winter into spring. Very Aquarius for February into Pisces... grungy but airy.

This reminds me of the grungy colours from Van Goghs Bedroom In Arles and surge would have brought that punchy blue from his bedroom walls in. Wow I didn't expect that either. Yellow and blue doesn't sound very good together- but you then created the only version of a blue/yellow palette I'd actually wear 😆 I felt the freshness 😄
I recently pulled together a 9 pan of singles some new, some neglected and honestly its been so fun. Pairing that with the quad I am trying to hit pan on or with other shades form different palettes has really opened creative doors for me and I am going to continue to do it throughout the year. Also you playing with weathered is making me want to grab weld which I grabbed from the clionadh sale and its such a grungy interesting colour. Loving the shades you picked.

I’m always weak for a blue shadow! This is definitely many levels up to those past “neutral palettes with a pop of blue” obsesssedddd
I didn’t think I was going to like it, but I love it. It kind of reminds me of the Gustav Klimt Woman in Gold painting, minus the burgundy! Also, interesting that you only need one matte in the palette. I usually use at least two mattes and one to three shimmers in a look.

Dear Hannah! I'd like to hire you to come whittle down my collection. I was in a hurry today to meet a BFF and just felt naked bc I used only 2 eye crayons and a thin pencil liner, instead of my usual 4 or 5 powder shadows with 2 pencils. Why couldn't I be comfortable with a minimalist approach? My friend has certainly seen me bare-faced, also after a full makeup crying jag. I think I need to hear you say "comfort zone" over and over again...thanks for this soothing bit of genius!
