I wish every creator did this! I’m a cool tuned girl. When reviewing them , maybe stating it’s a warm or cool tones would be a big help to us viewers. Or maybe help us understand how to see cool or warm tones in a palette. I always have this issue. Now it’s makeup and if u wanna have fun, totally have fun, but when ur trying to make something stand out understanding the tones to me anyways is so much easier.
@@annadominguez9897Yess! And that's ALL of them. There are literally no light neutral shimmers that are actually cool-toned anywhere. Same goes for light mattes but you can at least find some mid-toned ones you can apply lightly and it can work. But it's incredibly frustrating to see palettes being called cool-toned and not being able to create one full look with them that is actually that. Cool undertones in neutrals are not a fad, we need them specifically for them to look "neutral" on us. If it shows up yellow on me, then it's not a cool-toned neutral.
OMG - thank you so much for talking about the elephant in the room! I have a slightly cool undertone and consistently when someone says a palette is cool-toned, I get it and it’s too warm for me. Going Coconuts is one where influencers said “it’s cool-toned neutral,” but on me, it’s just warm. You are spot on about lighting and the reviewer’s undertone, and I would so appreciate if reviewers did a ranking of where on the cool to warm spectrum a palette falls. Soooo helpful! Thank you again for your great content!
We are all unique in all our products (mascaras, shadows etc.) but I found this REALLY helpful. Your look today is stunning Mandy (not that you aren't always!) I have the Kiss Alter Ego palette (a dupe for the Natasha Denona Glam) and I *LOVE* it. I loved your cool/warm rating. Love your creative content and that you also focus on drugstore. ♥ Elle
This is the best explanation of swatches & tones, regardless of it targeting neutral palettes. Please do more of these & Thank you, glad I came across your channel!
My makeup loving friend sent me the Tartelette in Bloom for Christmas a couple years ago. I will never be able to thank her enough. This palette is nearly always what I pull out when I have a date or event and have to get ready in a rush. Always a beautiful application, super quick! Thanks for such a comprehensive review on such a vague, personal topic!
Thanks so much for this - SUPER helpful! Warm tones look horrible on me, but I tend to get burned with purchases because everything seems to look cooler on my device screens than they actually are in person. This video gave me a good baseline referring to several things I already own, and helped me make decisions on a couple that I was wondering about. I would love it if you’d continue to use the warmth scale for all palettes going forward, even if they’re not just neutrals. Really enjoy your channel, Mandy!
Hi Mandy, love this video! Can you share your favorite powder to cream eyeshadow palettes? Have you posted a video on the powder to cream formulas? Thanks 🙏🏼
Really impressed that you did this for your viewers girl! I have been in the fine arts and painting, portraits, mainly with oils and acrylics, and that is where I learned my makeup from, and went on to do other people’s makeup after learning about sanitation and other things that may not be learnt by an artist. Anyway, I had to learn how to paint a 3-D canvas that is skin not canvas material, but color theory never changes. I think some of us who know it inside out forget some people may need a refresher or a mini tutorial on the science of color. Good job for recognizing this and trying to help your viewers out!😊
Wow, do I ever appreciate this! I have quite a few of the palettes you showed, and was disappointed in how warm many of them are when I first opened them, when creators called them "cool." Awesome video!
I love how you really listen to feedback and genuinely try to improve. The scale is a wonderful idea. Thank you. You have helped me so much with my makeup looks
First off, jacket is gorgeous! Secondly, you always look amazing with or without makeup. Great video. I love the Persona Identity pallet. I’m definitely a fan of the plum and darker, brick reds. Reminds me of the new Rose Metals pallet from ABH. Which is my all time favorite pallet. It’s beautiful and I wish I could use it more. The tones and shimmers in that pallet are gorgeous and blend so well.
Love your videos and using a scale makes my marketing researcher’s heart flutter. Suggestion, if you don’t mind: make your scale a 9 point, so you have a true middle (5). In your notes, put the number before your links so if one listens, they know what those numbers mean, but wouldn’t otherwise; this will allow me to come back and quickly find what I was looking for. And just rate using whole numbers. (I know, I’m guilty of wanting to go in the middle at times too, but it always makes me feel that I haven’t used the right scale.) If you continue with scales, can you also do one for level of shimmer/glitter to matte? This is a critical factor for me in deciding what to purchase (I lean more matte, but do love a good shimmer at times.) Thanks so very much! And I hope you know I was trying to help, not being critical.
I am definitely a cool toned person. I have several of the warm toned pallets that you have shown here and have wondered why they always seem to look terrible on me!
I really appreciate the close ups and swatches along with the cool and warm toned scale! I would definitely have put the Soft Glam at a number seven as well!
I find that when most content creators call a palette neutral - it is usually warm. Love your scale. I am very cool toned and my favourite palette is the Colorpop Stone Cold Fox even though it does have some warmish shades.
I love that you are going to use the cool to warm meter going forward. What a wonderful idea! I love those beautiful warm looks on you! Unfortunately, they just don’t look good on me. I tend to lean more towards the cool toned and neutral pallets. Great video! Thank you! 😃
I love my Alter Ego alternatives and I love Stone Cold Fox from Color Pop. Today I followed your Shadow Kiss tutorial. I appreciate it. It looks really nice. I wrote down your "formula" in my look book.
This is fun! On my skin tone, the ND glam pulls so cool. I can get a neutral look that I like, but most shades look so grey and dull on my skin tone. The ND bronze and the ND zendo I love in the summer. They are both so warm. I love them in summer, but in the winter when I’m more fair it’s not as flattering on me. The ND My Dream palette, however, is perfect for me all year! It’s neutral enough for me in the winter, and it can pull warm in the summer. It is the most perfect year round neutral palette that I have. And it’s got a little color. Hands down my most favorite ND palette.
GREAT video! I love the concept of this content. Of course, I am always blown away by the fact that you are stunningly gorgeous and yet so down to earth. And by the way, I love your squeaky jacket and your humor.
My number 1 is definitely the Tarte tartelette clay matte palette. They are on the cool side but warm enough for my neutral to warm undertones. My favorite when it comes to the small one is the Dior 5 couleurs Soft Cashmere palette. 😍
Awe, you're so dedicated to us, your viewers. So thoughtful. I love watching your videos. Your care and kindness just ooze through all your videos... and your cheeky personality too hehe! Thank you for always creating fantastic content. Cheers! ❤️
I LOOOOOOVE this idea of placing palettes along a "warmth" scale! I prefer a palette that has a combination of cool and warm neutrals, so I'm not surprised to see the Tartelette in Bloom ranked in the middle of the scale---it's the only palette I've ever hit pan on every eyeshadow. The other one was KVD "Shade + Light" eye contour palette.
Loved this video! Great idea ranking the cool vs warm tones! I have a few of these beautiful palettes! I tend to prefer cooler tones on myself since I’m really fair with a pink undertone. Thank you!!❤
I’ve had a few colourpop palettes and on me they always pull warmer even though they may look cooler in the pan. It’s almost like the oxidize on me. Great video though because I gravitate towards neutral shades. This is very helpful.
Thank you so much Mandy! This is a very helpful video and the fact you took the time to put it together based on a follower’s comment just makes me love you even more! I have just gotten into playing with makeup in the past few years, actually during COVID, and I think my problem is I’m not sure what looks good on me and I am easily influenced by something I see here on TH-cam that looks good on someone else but not necessarily on me. So I need to spend time figuring out what looks best on me. I am playing around with the Bubbly palette and it’s growing on me . ☺️ Thank you again for taking the time to help us. You are beautiful inside and out!
I have the Alter Ego Shadow Kiss palette which is the alternative palette to the Natasha Denona glam palette. I love it and use it quite often! I definitely lean more neutral-cool in my preferences. I don't mind the occasional warmer look and I have been known to mix cool and warm tones together as well (I know what a total faux pas!). I also have the Alter Ego Harmony palette which is the alternative to the Natasha Denona Retro Palette. Alter Ego isn't quite as pigmented as the ND shadows, but for the amount of money I'm saving ($17 vs $69), I'm not going to complain about having to blend in an extra layer of shadow!
Loved this video format!!. I have olive skin tone and only like warm palettes and this was soo helpful. It took me a long time before I realized that cool eyeshadow palettes don't work on me even thou I love the colors but not for me . Warm colors looks best. This is one of the best videos that was most helpful for me. Thanks.
What a great video concept. Have not seen anything done ever in a video Me Mandy. I'm a cool complexion so this helped me immensely. Thanks 🙏 for helping me understand this a bit better because truthfully I don't have the eye to know the difference. Your's did the trick. You do a great job. Keep them coming.
This method makes a lot of sense. I bought Stone Cold Fox and that’s taupe palette thinking they would be super cool toned. They really aren’t. There’s cool tones in SCFx but there’s a good bit of neutrals that’s warm leaning. That’s Tuape is neutral/warm for my preferences too.
This was really helpful, Mandy! I haven’t seen a video like this in all the time I’ve watched beauty YT. I find that with my cool undertone, I don’t like cool shades on me because it makes me look sickly. I much prefer warm tones, and I’m excited about you using the scale moving forward.
This is the video I needed but didn't know how to ask for! I've tried so many neutral palettes and they're either too cool or too warm. I'm loving that I can try some of these in the middle. What a great idea, THANK YOU!!
So informative thank you! Can you do a video explaining the undertones of concealer? I'm trying to find a new on for my newly aging skin and I'm having a hard time. Idk if I'm getting the wrong color or formulation or both.
I find this type of discussion about neutral palettes very interesting and it's good idea to make a video about. For example as someone who has fair skin that leans to having a rosy cool undertone it usually means that neutral palettes that suite me are those palettes that are either very in the middle of cool and warm axis or almost bit mauve leaning. A too warm toned orange bronzy palette will look bit off on me, just as anything too close to silver/ grey cool tones will make me look just very ill. Since the neutral palette has been done so many times and we have so many in the market, I would really appreciate that in the reviews there would also be a focus on to which type of preferences in terms on undertones the palette falls into, aside from evaluating the formula and textures in the individual palettes.
Your skin tone sounds like mine. Maybe that is why the ColourPop Stone Cold Fox palette with the silvers and grays didn't seem to flatter me. I ended up giving that palette away. :(
Just a recommendation but keep a matte palette of bright but deep hues of red, blue, yellow, orange etc. You can use very small amounts of these to cool/warm the tone of any other color. For example if you have a brown that's just a little too warm you can add very small amounts of dark blue and it will create a cooler brown color. You can also use white and black shades to change the depth of a color. It may take a little more time and some practice but you can create any color you like using your favorite formulas
@tinahickman6300 Doesn't work for spring skintone (bright, warm, light). Spring doesn't like any black or white or dark shades as this mutes down the color depth and makes everything look like grey mud. We want to remove the greige not add to it or warm it up.
This is the first video I've watched of yours, and I'm hooked. The scale is a brilliant way to communicate this. Thank you. I look forward to more content of yours. Xx
I definitely prefer eyeshadows in the 5-7 range. I’ve made SO many mistakes purchasing palettes that are too too warm or too cool. It’s just amazing how a neutral shadow can bring liveliness to your skin or deadness. The super warm, orange or yellow shades just look tragic on me like the ones with too much gray.
This is so useful! Would love to see you rank Sigma Ambience, Moira Endless Moonlight, and u know it’s old, but Hanging in Hawaii is still my favorite neutral. I always travel with Feeling Bubbly and CP charm school. Glad you talk about it, no one does!
I just found your channel because I was looking for videos with cool toned looks. I’m so glad I did! I love the idea of the scale. You have a new follower 😊
Hi Mandy. Thanks for the video. I am happy to see that you rated the Patrick Ta palette at 9.5, Even the rosy palette he lounched after this one look orange on me.
Hey Mandy! This rating scheme is genius! I finally understand why I really don't like several of my eyeshadow palettes; I belong on the cool side of the spectrum, and I'm going to blame store lighting. Fortunately for me the few high-end palettes I have are smaller ones and all cool tones that I always love. All the rest have a few cool tones in them that I might use, and they're all drugstore priced, so no big deal when it comes time to toss kits that are only half used. You really hit it out of the park with this idea! Thank you for giving such good examples - you're a teacher at heart!
Thank you so much for this video. This has confounded me for years. The scale and the examples will be very helpful and I am saving this video. Also, you look absolutely stunning.
Absolutely brilliant video. I watched your eyeshadow application video followed by this one and just had to subscribe to your channel! Such great informative content. Simply fabulous!! 🎉
I'm a person of cool tones and I've struggled a lot to find palettes with predominantly cool colors, especially here in Brazil. I saw that Huda Beauty is gonna launch Matte Cool but the brand isn’t available here so I will have to import it.
Thank you SO much for this video. This is one in my saved for later that I've watched a few times. It really helped me understand if I should get one of the Nabla palettes in the Ulta sale.
I wonder if there is a good quality cool tone pallet with minimal metallics/glitter you could share? I'm so happy I came across your channel months ago. I'm grateful for your work. Daniela
I love this idea! Everyone reviewing neutral palettes needs to refer to your scale! Although as a cool toned gal I think your whole scale leans a bit warm. My favourite neutrals are rare to find - pink toned grays! Grays with zero blue tones in them. ND has too much yellow in her "neutral" eyeshadows for me, even if the shades don't lean warm, the yellow makes them look off if I'm not careful.
@@Kizzabell My favourite neutral shades are from Glaminatrix Cosmetics - an indie brand. The Nearly Natural and the Barely Basic have true cool toned browns. Urban Decay has a couple of great shades for me too - Laced and Sin. I haven't found a single palette that leans cool enough as a whole.
I really like your scale idea. May I ask, truly not trying to be difficult or disrespectful, do you understand all the warm/cool colours? As an artist I have to be able to tell if it’s a warm blue or a cool yellow. I would like to use your rating but I’m hesitant about the difference in our perception and understanding of colour. I enjoy your style of videos very much and love your makeup looks! Very skillfully done indeed! Thanks for all your hard work on our behalf. I can only shop online so someone like you in my corner is a real blessing.
Love this neutral ranking! I’m a neutral lover! Tartlette in Bloom was my first high end palette to figure out what I like, just like you suggested. Used up entire pans in that palette, and I recently got one of the new LA Girl 4 Play quads, and I LOVE the buildable and easy to blend formula!
The Natasha Denona Glam palette is my GO-TO neutral palette. It’s really versatile. There ARE some ‘holes’ though that I’ve filled in with singles. Soft Glam is MUCH too WARM. Neutrals ARE a challenge. Colourpop’s That’s Taupe is COOLER than Glam but VERY GREY. Maybe TOO GREY. The highlighter Flexitarian is a pinky silver that’s a amazing lid or inner corner highlight. Kush is a cool beige that’s beautiful. Both are the Supershock formula. Sephora Collection has some lovely singles. At $10 NOT cheap but some good formulas and shades. I just bought Chestnut(dark neutral matte brown) and Chock Shock, a SMOOth metallic in a neutral to cool undertone. I want to get a dark matte grey. The eye crayons, SPECIFICALLY the one in Grey is actually a cool silver grey.
Another great neutral palette… that’s also quite affordable!!! is the mini Wishing You palette from the Sephora Collection. (It’s no longer showing online, but you may still find some, in store.) It was $8 and I bought several as Christmas gifts, during the last sale. They’re well loved, by me and the people I got them for. 😊
My favourite neutral palette would be off your chart! It would be all greys/silvers which is more flattering with my cool toned skin/silver-blonde hair than even the coolest palette you mentioned. ps: your hair is *everything*!! 💕

Your skin tone sounds like mine. Maybe that is why the ColourPop Stone Cold Fox palette with the silvers and grays didn't seem to flatter me. I ended up giving that palette away. :(
Loved the scale and the reminders of palettes I have not pulled in a long time...
Excellent video! I'm sure it will be very helpful for a lot of people. You actually get the cool/warm thing!
Oh, and yes, I heard a squeak or two!
What a clever idea to do the scale for cool to warm! Good analysis of neutral palettes and helpful. Thanks.
This is the first video I've watched of yours, and I'm hooked. The scale is a brilliant way to communicate this. Thank you. I look forward to more content of yours. Xx
Very informative video. I’m a Tartlet in Bloom or Going Coconuts palette girl.
This video is so thoughtful and informational! This is the first videos of yours I’ve viewed by I’m now subscribed.
This is so useful! Would love to see you rank Sigma Ambience, Moira Endless Moonlight, and u know it’s old, but Hanging in Hawaii is still my favorite neutral. I always travel with Feeling Bubbly and CP charm school. Glad you talk about it, no one does!
Great ranking and very handy scale!
I like the idea of a cool/warm spectrum rating. Brilliant 👏
I love ur eyes, Mandy. I have to work harder to achieve a crease, having hooded eyes.
Oh my gosh, this is the best video idea ever. Thank you so much.
I have a hard enough time to distinguishing warm vs. cold let alone seeing the black or white in colors. Thank you!
Same.. 😂
Love this video thanks now I need to find best pink pallet combo
You have such a sweet disposition. You always put out such great content. Love it
Your eye look is especially beautiful! Please do a tutorial on your eye look. Excellent video
Love all if those. My daughter has Of Quartz and I hate using it. Hard to blend so I have to pick up the glam pallette to help smooth the look
Really enjoyed this video. One of my favorite "neutral" palettes is Sidney Grace's Coffee Talk. Always enjoy your videos...thanks!
Thank you for all the hard work that mush have gone into this video! Very very helpful 😁
This is priceless!! The scale - exactly what we all want to know!! Thank you!!!
I just discovered your channel today and I love it! This is a great video and will come in handle for me in choosing my future palette's. Thanks
This was an incredibly helpful video, thank you so much!!! I appreciate the scale and hope you always rank for us when a new palette comes out!
Thanks Mandy. Love your new color scale ~ very helpful. Can you share what color/brand of nail polish you were wearing? 😊
Love this idea for a video! It is great to see the comparisons between the pallets!
Very informative! Do more please! Blush, lip products etc
I'm a person of cool tones and I've struggled a lot to find palettes with predominantly cool colors, especially here in Brazil. I saw that Huda Beauty is gonna launch Matte Cool but the brand isn’t available here so I will have to import it.
Great review! What a helpful way of describing neutrala.
Daniela
Favorite video so far since joining your channel ❤️
I love this idea! Everyone reviewing neutral palettes needs to refer to your scale! Although as a cool toned gal I think your whole scale leans a bit warm. My favourite neutrals are rare to find - pink toned grays! Grays with zero blue tones in them. ND has too much yellow in her "neutral" eyeshadows for me, even if the shades don't lean warm, the yellow makes them look off if I'm not careful.
What are some of your favourite palettes?
@@Kizzabell My favourite neutral shades are from Glaminatrix Cosmetics - an indie brand. The Nearly Natural and the Barely Basic have true cool toned browns. Urban Decay has a couple of great shades for me too - Laced and Sin. I haven't found a single palette that leans cool enough as a whole.
Great comparison video. So helpful Mandy. thank you
I really like your scale idea.
Well done Mandy! This is a brilliant video idea! 😍
You always look so lovely and I really appreciate your thoughtful videos!
This is such a great video! So much useful info for someone like me who uses make-up every morning but has never really studied it. Love it!
Yes!! I love this.
