It’s wrong that they do that...but it’s even more pathetic knowing this took place during covid with no audience at all! So weird that they’re just pretending as if there’s an audience there to begin with.

That's just great..."judges" judging a phenomenal drummer when they (the judges) don't know the difference between a snare and bongo.
I don't know man, even the serious drumming he did isn't the kind of stuff that they want to see on these shows. Sure it was super technical but it's all chops and no groove or musicality. Regular people don't wanna see you play a bunch of notes, they want something that sounds like music, which is why that other guy did so good
@@maxglazier5351 Yeah, groove is important if you really want to entertain people. Pure technicality is great for competitions and stuff, but being able to turn the technique into accessible music is the true test.
The chicken stuff was stupid, it’s memes that only his very small TH-cam audience would get and the act was a cringe fest. I am a fan of this channel and drumming in general, but I would’ve hit the buzzer too
Well, it's not like he signed up for a very serious drumming competition and suddenly found himself being judged by these people. He signed up for a show that's extremely well known and knew exactly who would be judging him.

Yeah they weigh a lot on likability and empathy. Of course it is important that the audience likes you and wants to vote for you. Like if someone walks up and calls all the judges pieces of shit and then goes on and does the most insane performance ever they’ll still be cut lol.
It’s a real shame when you can still tell they try to edit it to make someone look bad and they still put on a better performance than the majority who make it. This one clearly because the act is insane as stated lol. Plus I’d say it’s probably harder to judge something like drums if you don’t play drums or really an instrument in general
You can definitely see it come out when even when the act isn’t that great, they’ll make sure to comment on how they portray thenselves and the emotions they pull out from the combination of the sob story and the act.
Thats why most people lie to get further on the show.

@@ghdesign_ if anything they just didn't like the song choice but you can't do anything about it. If any drummer saw the act they might not understand what's going on but the one thing they would comment on is pure skill... Most can't even play regular quads without a tick here and there.

It's honestly not even being good or not (which he obviously is). It's about the perception of (the m)asses of what's popular. Rubber chickens aren't. Chicken suits aren't. This was a ruse to fill time. But honestly that's a part of the entertainment industry. And really, to give him that much exposure regardless (and I think Eric realizes this) actually does his channel and his chances of hitting a home run audition next year a lot of good.

I’ve gone to an agt filming. All the audience reaction is faked. They tell us to boo or cheer and record that. Or they’ll tell us to act disgusted or shocked. They’ll pair reactions with acts that weren’t even filmed with the same audience. They’ll also have people record their acts twice because of filming issues. I think the judges may or may not be briefed of whether or not to take an act seriously too. They exit and come back or have people talk to them. Also Simon takes a bunch of snack breaks to eat carrots and celery??? It’s all super weird and fake

I've been to an AGT filming too (AGT Champions^2 Episode 3):
I remember:
1. The buzzers are HELLA LOUD
2. We have to cheer every time someone goes on stage
3. There are like ten to fifteen minute breaks in between
4. Barely any reactions during the performances
5. The order the acts are in are not the same as the one shown on television
Why would you go to see that show?
Musicians have a hard time to show their real talent in the show, unless you play Flight of the Bumblebee, at 300bpm. Always works, trust me.

I agree you were done dirty, but I also realized a long time ago that actual talent doesn't make it far on these shows. For example, most magicians I've seen on there just couldn't cut it in actual magician circles, so they tried their luck impressing laymen. At the end of the day it seems only singers really get anywhere on so called talent shows, which is bull because there are already plenty of singing centered shows.
You should also had the formulaic, predictable requirement of a "tragic/sob/underdog" backstory as well, because drama is what the American TV audience thrives on; they don't really thrive on actual reality, but the manufactured perception of it.
Singers should be banned from generic talent shows. They have other shows exclusively for singers just like you said.
@@ccricers One reason they allow singers is because of people like the girl who won it a couple of years ago with her ukulele work and original songs. She was too young to be on Idol or The voice, so AGT was her best option.
@@osutuba the problem is that Idol and the Voice are pretty toxic. There should be something for singing and something separate for other talent. Perhaps another spin off for dancing. It's so frustrating when all that ever gets attention is singing and dancing.

I stopped watching it several years ago those titles for the most part have no idea what it takes to do what you do plus many other contestants they knocked immediately I will never watch that show again.

You should do the redemption story arch for next year and do a serious audition.
He sent in a multiple tapes including a serious one and they told him to come do the chicken one. They wanted him to look dumb cause it makes for “better TV”
AGT is trash. Eric doesn't need to show case his talent to people who cant appreciate it. and I doubt he would make it far without a sob story.
For AGT, it's much better to do something that _looks_ impressive, rather than doing something that takes actual talent.

I feel like if you do anything with glow in the dark and drums, they always eat that stuff up. Get in some sort of glow in the dark suit, make your sticks and drums glow somehow, and bosh, youre in.

This chicken suit has infected its way into my actual nightmares! Last night I had a nightmare that I was going to my college for alumni weekend and the alums were putting on recital. I was second to perform after the choir. I was going to do a solo piece with piano accompaniment in a chicken costume, but i wasn’t prepped at all. I was trying to tell my former professor that I wasn’t ready to go because I don’t have a chicken costume or my music and I haven’t rehearsed with my accompanist! That’s when I woke up.

Wait.. I thought everyone knew this about these "reality" Talent shows. Sorry you were caught unaware. But you are too smart and too good to need their approval. Also, what made anyone think any of those judges can appreciate the fantastic drum work.
I've never liked any of these "reality shows", "talent" shows, or even watching television at all.
The few times that I've seen AGT clips, I've always noticed that of all people as a "Judge", Heidi Klum is really just horrible.
I mean, she was a supermodel (not that they can't be intelligent; I'm pointing it out because that does not really "qualify her" to judge "talent") who was married to Seal?
Also, she's poor at critiquing, and even expressing her opinion. She makes about as much sense as trying to read a wet newspaper, and when it's her turn to comment on something, it always looks like the other judges are trying to suppress eyerolls or "side glares."
I think everyone knows in a general sense, but never really the specifics and to what extent.
They literally only gave him 20 seconds to even get to his full power…

Hey man, Bill from Calderwood Percussion here. We do all kinds of custom percussion, but mostly historical reproductions and other rope tension stuff. I'm pretty sure I figured out how to make a set of rope tension quads (or possibly quints; the spock would be the most difficult), and I really want an excuse to actually build them. I dunno if that's gonna get you anywhere with AGT, but I figured if anybody would wanna try something crazy like that, it would probably be you :) I'd love to talk to you about it if your'e interested. Either way, I love your videos, man; thanks for making so much great stuff!

The one thing that comes to mind that might “impress” the judges is some type of Cavaliers spinning tenors or upside down playing ensemble. But it’s pretty much a crap shoot.
He should take all his custom drums and audition with all of them.

I had a friend go on AGT in a professional trombone quarter and the same exact thing happened. They went on there and rocked the house, the judges were like "nah you guys suck" but none of them reacted so they just left the entire segment out of the show.
"Why didn't you go as a serious act?" Because it's not a serious show. lol
This is unfortunate, it’s like they did this for their gain. You Eric are phenomenal drummer with amazing skill. Keep up the awesomeness.
I think you could find a way to make the act super out there like the show wants, but not just for goofy purposes so you could showcase your skill and have a chance. The show either wants something they can frame as amazing to the audience or amazingly bad, so it's just finding a way to appeal to them. Some kind of insane setup like 100 drums, or a music and style choice that resonates with people like Malik.

I'm pretty sure that the judges were all told when they signed their contracts: "if they don't sing or have a tragic backstory, they don't count." People can do the most amazing, incredible, never-before-seen things on that show, but if one of those other two crtieria are not met, they don't count.

heres an idea. try to audition with like a serious disney villain stizz. like imagine the vibe in jonathan youngs cover of the oogie boogie song, but for drumms. really evil and badass and edgy as fuck, with like a lot of the colorcombination of red and black and an awesome show. (which might be a bit much, but look what the power of editing was able to do here, im sure it can do the reverse for your next act)
At this point I thought everybody already knew these shows were not showing reality. Any Filming based entertainment production forces all involved to sign a waiver that allows them to make anyone look any way they want through editing (though I can see why this is needed as people would sue because somebody will always hate the results). And defamation lawsuit standards are extremely high in the US, which combined with contract law makes productions almost untouchable for what would seem obvious defamation to the average person.
AGT first chose the chicken performance, then literally said it's too bad. he is literally the best in the whole entire country lol.
It was either this, or making everyone give you a standing ovation for being in the military, but that's not popular right now.
They aren't looking for talented people, they are looking for entertainers. Just look at the judges, they aren't talented but they do entertain the general audience. If you don't fit their agenda by making the audience feel emotional/scared/hyped, then they will cut you. Why do you think Simon asked if there is a market for what he's doing? Malik Dope was successful because he played popular music and half his performance was dancing, juggling and playing with fire.

I heard theres a lot of stuff thats rigged. Like they choose what you wear, and edit a sob story where they want and they tell the audience who to boo etc

Well, over the last probably 2.5~3 years we all learned, that TV is the most powerful weapon of all. Sometimes they don't even bother to edit, they just make something up. xD

Okay buddy, I’m a longtime subscriber, here’s my recommendation for audition #2; No cocky, no costumes, no characters. Play it straight with your three best buds, and knock it out of the park with epic sweeps and combos. So there’s my two cents. 👍
The only issue is that he sent 10 videos in to begin with, including a serious one, and the producers chose this to essentially set him up to be a joke

this is so upsetting. not only were the judges not respecting the talent and technical skill, but the editors went back and removed all the technical skill in order to validate the dumbass judges' critiques?? like i know there's always shenanigans going on behind reality shows, but it's annoying when the shenanigans are done specifically to make the judges look like they know what they're talking about instead of, idk, getting judges that actually know what they're talking about.

Firstly, congratulations for even having the courage to go on there knowing this would most likely happen. So I have an idea for you for next year. You should just do what you do on TH-cam with multicams but with a back drop and an indoor mat on the videos that matches the color of their stage. Write a really tasteful indoor show with you on all instruments in pit and battery. The real you will have a mega tenor solo somewhere in the middle and the whole indoor show will revolve around that. Also see if someone can sew you a legit awesome indoor uniform with a subtle chicken emblem on the corner of the chest as a nod to the rubber chicken of old, you know... For nostalgia.
