Good thoughts well presented, EF, and Daisy is an absolute winner - if ever she wants a holiday in New Zealand, Fergus Au Fait, our Border Collie, will be happy to show her around.
You covered a lot of points here, but one that is implicit in it all, and that often gets kind of missed, is 'paying attention' (or 'being present'). And that also means paying attention to your attention - being deliberate and managing your attention and critically evaluating it. 'Paying attention' is a skill in it's own right and is fundamental to developing other skills. The other thing i'd stress is that it's not enough to be doing some task repeatedly to expect an improvement in outcome... the content of that repetition has to be on point and evolve. Practice does not make perfect - only perfect practice makes perfect. Our brains don't care about what we're practicing - they'll just become more adept with it... even if it's shit. So every moment of practice has to be of the highest quality. I don't mean to sound preachy here - it's just that many years involvement with skill dvlpmnt. from novice to elite has convinced me that not paying constant attention to the above is a sure recipe for hitting the proverbial glass ceiling... and few people just natively 'get this'.
Have a great day - enjoyed the vid and your guest very much - all the best from NZ.

Great message! Your 1 lens, 3 images is valuable. The one lens creates limits and therefore easier to learn.

What you said about reviewing your pictures is to me the most important advice to get better.
Look at your pictures : what is wrong with them, what is right, how could they be even better. For this I am using a tablet where I put my pictures on. I swipe the pictures to resize and crop them (virtually). It helps me explore how different they could have been with another composition and a better phtographer than me :)

The mistake I made earlier in my journey was being too fussy in my picture taking. I rectified that when I restarted my journey back in 2017 by taking pics of random items around the house even. Taking shots of the same item at different angles, apertures, shutter speeds and focal lengths can be a good creative exercise

I recently got a ricoh kr-5 its a 20euro slr it came with 55mm f2.2 ricoh lens + i got a film development kit. Now 8 rolls in i think it has made me to slow down and think more about the image that i am about capture, for sure digital is faster and more convenient, but "user experience" using those old mechanical cameras and developing and scanning your film, makes you feel good. Its weird i know, keep up the good work on the channel :) (1 day in future i want to go to dark room and make a print) instead of my epson.

I use that same bag, with my g9. Normally, on my bike but also while hiking. Super handy. Thanks.

Lol, I know what you mean about getting to know a new camera. After 5 years shooting exclusively Olympus I treated myself to a used Nikon last year. Now I can't find my way around either system as I continue to use both!

Nice video. Been watching "practice" and "gear doesn't matter" videos trying to quash my GAS. Practice does make better, obviously.
While I do understand the one lens challenge for me what has been better is the weekly challenges where one week is say "yellow" and another "shadow" and another "bokeh" and next week "portrait" since it forces me to work within certain compositions that I did not decide on myself. Of course I can take other pictures that same week but try to stick with the challenge. This also means that if the weather is awful I still have to take at least one picture that day indoors.

      Thank you!
I do similar challenges with my camera club and they are very good for getting out of a rut and forcing yourself to take an image!

Great video. I've just come across your channel yesterday. I was searching for info on the OM-D E-M5 Mark II and yours has being the best I've seen regarding M4/3 systems. I really like your style of presenting. Quite raw and unpolished (please don't take that as a negative). Keep up the great work. Also, I have a dog named Daisy, great name!

    Hi
I really love your videos & have subscribed to your channel. This week in taking delivery of my first M3/4 camera, an Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III and 25mm lens. I'm going to try the 3 photos a day challenge, I'll let you know how it goes.
