This video is very nice, surprisingly enjoyable (watched as the third one in a row after your sluggish Spanish reportage). I think you are very talented, just don't waste your talents on technicalities... this is promising! Your way of telling is excellent, very natural and involving. I'm not a native English speaker but enjoyed your pace and elaboration very much. You could have compared the mark II a bit more specifically with the G9 orig. as you owned one (like image quality, color and noise etc). The sample for the dynamic range was not proper, to illustrate the dynamic response you need a scene with a much broader scale/range between the dark and the lite. A small gripe, the rest is super. Subscribing! After all, you are Irish, aren't you :) P.S. Don't pay too much attention to views count, the real quality is mostly never reflected in it... yeah it's nice and pleasing but the most important is to strike your creative core, that will show then in the longer run.
Open gate can be recorded to SD cards. Only the ProRes 4k and 5.7k options need an external SSD. Great review. An incredibly complete camera in both departments. For me the best crop sensor hybrid camera on the market right now. The GH7 does improve on it a bit on the video side but some of those extras are overkill for 99% of people (like ProRes RAW)
Yet Jimmy Cheng of RED35 says... "It's the jack of all trades, and master of some. It does all things very well. But is it great for stills? No. Is it great for video? No." Perhaps has the OM-1ii better stills and the GH7 better video, but as a hybrid? I believe you are right! The GH7 is probably better anyway, but too large, too expensive for the overkill pro res raw features.
Nice breakdown, thanks for sharing. I agree that the placement of the power switch on the original G9 is perfect. Keep on trucking, hope to see some videos from your travels in the near future.
Congrats on the 2K subs. Glad the G9 II worked out for you. Still think the MFT mount needs a high quality small camera ideally rangefinder style body. GX9 II would be great but I don't think it's coming which is a real shame. I think we'd be more likely to get mini S9 God help us...imagine the comments section in the release videos 😅
The ergonomics of the GX9 are gross... I'd much prefer a G80 II with phase detect AF, improved IBIS and improved color science. Even with 16 Mpx it would be great...
Great review, to the point and some sage advice regarding how expensive it is compared to the original G9. Law of diminishing returns applies to photography just as much as other products!
I've said this before, but I like that the body is large. Also, it's almost the same size as the original G9, so if one is used to that, I can't imagine it would seem overly large.
The dimensions are exactly the same it's 5mm taller but also 2mm and 3mm smaller in length and width so exactly the same. Weight is also exactly the same
@@JoeMaranophotography it's the lenses collected that keep me stuck with the system. The S5 II sits in an identical body but has sensor 4 times larger, is now cheaper than the G9 II...
I'm glad you mentioned the (sometimes) slow startup time. I just bought a new G9 II and noticed that as well. Also it seems the playback is a bit slow to respond too...or at least, noticeably slower than other cameras I've used. It's not a huge issue for me, but it is a bit annoying. I believe the camera I got (at a local store) is probably an early build because here in Oct 2024 when I bought it new, it had firmware version 1.0. I would have expected a newer firmware if the one I bought was built in the last 6 months or so. Maybe sales of these are slow at the store I bought it from.
Playback is the main source of issues with my copy of G9 orig., firmware 2.4. A larger capacity SD card and a lot of content on it - it's bound to crash, more than often. The workaround I've been using is to transfer all the files to a PC timely and format the cards before each important shoot, just in case. The slow startup time is annoying at events, but otherwise not that bad.
Shooting the moon in HR mode did not worked out for me on the old G9 because the moon moved during the 4 pictures taken by the HR process. The motion blur was worse than the resolution. Is the HR Mode on the G9ii now faster or the motion is better corrected? Or did I something wrong on my G9? (or is there already a HR picture of the moon in the G9ii camera and the let us think..🤫)

Thank you for the review. The G9 II doesn't get much love from TH-camrs. Seems like we already have seen that with the G9.

:))) I didn't even think of a high-res mode by my moon shots using the 400mm, the moon moves too fast across the frame and the body doesn't follow it

please explain what a "dummy" battery is for shooting slowmo?
It's an adapter that turns the battery compartment into a means of using mains power via an insert that looks like a battery.
