Been hiding my gay family from Gurdwara for 7 years. My partner had an arranged marriage to a woman, got divorced and then we met. He, his daughter, and I have been a happy family and his ex wife's family has been very supportive, but, his side has been harder. I miss the Gurdwara but after I was outed it was too heartbreaking to see kindness repossessed by anger. I have been hiding from all my Punjabi friends since. 4 days ago I lost my Kara, I hadn't taken it off except if absolutely necessary and I thought it was in my pocket. Now I feel naked without it and now thinking about Gurdwara and my Sikh identity and I feel suddenly homesick. I did not know anyone was talking about this and I've been hiding from it and here you are speaking openly. You don't know depth of gratitude I have. Thank you.

Sikhi is about service to humanity and truthful living. In Sikhi it doesn’t matter what your gender identity and sexuality are; it’s people with the disgusting opinions and lack of being able to accept.
Being 2SLGBTQ+ isn’t about lust. If you view the facts a individual is more likely to have sex before marriage if they are straight rather than 2SLGBTQ+. I know you aren’t trying to offend anyone although saying stuff like that without educating yourself is offensive.
What about people taking hormone suppressors or other things as to change genders. Sikhism states not to alter one's natural body. What would you say to this?
@@kirtan_singh okay so your argument is about not altering your natural body because religion encourages against it. Their bodies are still natural it’s classified as a medication. If you have such an issue with such minor body changes go tell people to stop drinking the most common drugs coffee and tea, tell people to stop removing hair, tell people to stop consuming meat. I’ll tell you why your not doing that because society accepts and normalizes those actions that why you don’t stand against them. These people are being discriminated against everyday if you are Sikh you would stand up for them not stand against them because you fear society’s thoughts of you. I personally do tell Sikhs to not cut their hair and take drugs etc. So in what perspective of the Sikh religion in terms of hard support could be used to defend hormone altering drugs etc.? I know there are shabads which state not to eat meat etc. So what would be the equivalent that could defend taking the previously stated altering drugs etc.?
Also just one final time. I am not asking these questions with malicious intentions but intrigue to see how people would defend and support their views or answer questions. "pathar paalaa ki-aa karay khusray ki-aa ghar vaas.

The traditional road of marriage in Sikhi or Anand Karaj is only reserved for straight couples. Although, homosexuals shouldn't face discrimination in any other way. The institution of Anand Karaj remains specifically for straight couples but homosexuals are still able to receive mukti.
R S veer, Khusra is a very specific lifestyle of people who are either intersex or male to female transgender who live in “households” under their own “gurus” and professionally work as sex workers, entertainers, etc. This tuk describing that married life is useless to a Khusra is not generalizable to all lgbt people because Khusra is a specific lifestyle where a marriage is not advised. Meanwhile all people who are homosexual or transgender are not Khusrey and do not live that specific lifestyle. All good but the only conflict to find against this is Lust and anand karaj
i'm not a religious scholar. i'm just a fellow sikh trying to balance all aspects of my identity to live my life honestly, just as the guru ji's advised. lust is something that is prevalent in heterosexual relationships as well. to denote lust in a heterosexual relationship more acceptable than a homosexual relationship as a whole, is wrong and contradictory. homosexual relationships aren't spurred by lust; they're motivated by the desire to love, and to be loved. to spread love. to live honestly. sexual feelings that may accompany this yearning is natural, but lust is when we give into it unabashedly. lust is thoughtless, thus it doesn't matter which 2 individuals - gender accounted for - are experiencing it.
the anand karaj is more tricky. it's such a beautiful ceremony, the rites of it are wonderful and sacred. however, those who use the mentions of 'bridegroom' and 'bride' as literally being a man and woman are misguided. in our religion, marriage is the union of two souls. a soul is genderless, and in front of Waheguru Ji, who is the ultimate husband, our souls - ALL of our souls, regardless of gender identity - is the bride. this means that a man's soul is considered to be a bride. as is a woman's. as are those who identify as non-binary. the body, what we say, how we act, how we choose to present ourselves, our chosen gender identities, means nothing at the end of the day, because our essence is tied to the soul. you don't hear people saying that every individual on earth is a woman because the soul is deemed the bride. why? because we know identity exists. cis men still hold the soul of a bride, waiting for her bridegroom. that does not change at all from person to person. so why does it matter if the outward appearance and identity of the two people being joined together shows that they are both men? or both women? or someone who decides that ties to gender aren't needed? the soul remains the same. the soul wants to be reunited with the Waheguru Ji. that is all that matters.
unfortunately, because of sociocultural impacts of colonialism, a queer communities are condemned in india, where before, hundreds of years ago, this was not the case. things are complicated now. those who preach goodness and collectivism are the same people who limit those people - GOOD people - from a faith that they are every bit entitled to. these people are not led by religion: they are led by the times, to earthly attachments of manmade constructs about what is 'right' and 'wrong', and these judgements are grounded in exclusionary practices, which go against sikhism.
our gurus advocated for truth and peace for the majority; the LGTBQIA2+ is not a 'new' idea. queer people have always existed. there are world known queer poets who were alive and well known during our guru ji's times. people knew they existed, and i'm sure our guru ji's did as well. guru nanak ji was a nomad: he visited so many places, met so many people, was exposed to so many cultures... do you think he was not aware?
i wish our siblings would release their attachments to this world; to their bodies, to their countries, and even to their cultures, which oftentimes perpetuate stereotypes, and consider life through what it was meant to be seen through: our souls. and maybe then they would find that we are all the same, deserving individuals.
but then again. i'm twenty years old and have a poisoned mind so... what do i know.
i forgot about the 'procreation' bit, but it's, at least in my opinion, much simpler. procreation is the act of sex for giving birth. however, there are many men and women who exist that are infertile, or experience complications that require them to medically remove their genitalia that would therefore stop their chances of procreation. are these men and women any less loved by Waheguru Ji? of course not. procreation is not a reason to be alive, it is not the reason we breathe every day. for these men and women, we encourage procreation through other means such as surrogacy and in vitro, but oftentimes those are expensive and the results are not always positive. but you know what else exists? adoption. and adoption is no less beautiful than biologically attained children.
at the end of the day, procreation isn't the act of simply giving birth. it's raising a child, loving them, nurturing them, teaching them about Sikhi.. THAT is procreation. if you think about it, people give birth to serial killers and a whole plethora of terrible human beings, so is that the procreation that we are taught of? or, conversely, many parents have children only to neglect them severely as they mature. is this procreation as taught by our faith? no. the procreation we are taught is to help the spread of sikhi and love and peace, not to physically put a child on this earth. thus, the 'homosexuals can't procreate' argument is fallible as well once you find the essence of the text. they absolutely can. they can instil all the teachings of our guru ji's in their child, who will then spread those through the world. that is true procreation, and it is not limited to biology.

How can ppl of a religion that preaches inclusion hate gay people
People of religion dont hate gay people but there is a problem in the need to force people to accept it. It seems like homosexuals need validation but peoples believes are against so why cant they accept that. No one should be forced to accept something that is against their beliefs and on top of that. LGBTQ groups hate religious groups so why are they trying to force themselves into groups that dont agree with their practices e.g. this guy wearing a turban and trying to be a practicing Sikh but then takes the piss with nails, make up and changes the whole identity of being a proper Sikh. Or gay men fighting to get married in churches even though they know christianity does not accept such practice. It is in he bible that marriage is between a man and woman so why should we change our practices. Why cant they accept the decision they've taken and not force their practices on others.
@@Elisa-yw4bp I get what your saying, you dont have to accept LGBT people but we have to give them all the equal rights that straight people have, atleast in America. People love to pick and choose what to believe from the bible, we dont let men beat their wives or have slaves anymore so obviously not EVERY line in the bible needs to be interpreted literally. If we did that women would have no rights and we would have societal norms akin to ISIS. Read Leviticus 19-23 verbatim to yourself...you'll realize that a lot of the bible is outdated.

The Gurus emphasized "Free Will" and that our actions, decisions and lifestyles will ultimately lead us to our destination, whether it's heaven or hell, right or wrong, we choose our path. The people in this video have every right to like either Men or Women, however, associating being a Sikh with your sexuality preference is an insult.
