    This is one of the most underrated cars of all time, and I like it!! Everyone thinks you're in a standard 3 series until they mess with one. Only two issues with the N54, and let's be honest, $400 for a hpfp and a couple hours to install? You bought a BMW, you pretty much don't care it's worth it. Turbo waste gate set-up issue? Who cares haha upgrade your charge pipe!! But, if you buy one with decent miles you're covered until 120k for those "problems" and with about $1200 in tuning upgrades it's a freaking beast!! Alpine trans flash?? Try that out!

    • @KyoChuffy
      @KyoChuffy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what does replacing a charge pipe have to do with a damn waste gate lol and HPFP cost 1100 new and takes like 45 mins not hours

      @@KyoChuffy damn! Thanks for reviving a 7 year old comment! Haha I wasn’t referring to them being connected, although it reads that way! I think I was stoned and excitedly replying! I’ve long since sold my 335i and the kid that bought it inherited an amazing car! I made the jump over to Mercedes and turbo charged V8s! 🤘 still absolutely love the N54 engine!

    Still have my 07, solid as a rock and I love it! I do pamper it, and it's not the cheapest car to own, but it puts a smile on my face every single time I start it up.

    I bought one about a month ago. 2009 with 80k miles. Red interior like the one on the video. Your statement holds so much truth. This car is beautiful and elegant and fast , BUT parts are expensive. Mine is currently needing a high pressure fuel pump that cost 700 dollars without labor. Take that into consideration when purchasing these types of vehicles. Make sure you can afford the maintenance. Invest a little time and research and I’d say you can do a good amount of work on your own and save a couple yourself a couple hundred dollars. But again, it’s an amazing machine.

    Good review. As an owner of a 335i 08, I must add that the twin turbos can be a time bomb for $. If you need to replace them from the dealership, it will be about $6K+ (Parts alone are about $4K). If you're in the market for a used one, please set aside a reserve for maintenance because it is EXPENSIVE and one item can easily be $500+. That said, I really enjoy this car and I have added Dinan stage 2 that really adds a huge kick.

      +RFreigeldorff nice catch, but if you look the moment he starts the engine, the temp gauge does not goes all the way to the lowest, it actually sits a little bit off that....that means, the car has been running before that. But I must agree with you, these engines does not like at all being rev'd over 3k RPM when cold.

      It doesnt maintain any value. No bmw does. You can buy this car all day in good shape where I live for 4-5k. I saw a gem a few weeks ago for 3k. They hold value worse than almost any other manufacturer due to constant issues and the cost of repairs. They are wonderful cars when they work...but when they don't, your pocket screams.

    Ahhh... I remember when my Dad had his '06 330i. He LOVED that car so much. We even named it Scooter, because it was such a quick and silent little thing. We would have bought the car in 09 when the lease was up, but Bob Smith BMW wanted too much for the car. Sadly, we had to give it back, and we got an Infiniti which we did not like at all. Then, we got an Acura which we hated more, but now, my Dad is considering a new 328i, 340i or even an M3. I really hope he gets one, it'll be like a throwback.

    • @chrisg000
      @chrisg000 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha that's crazy! My dad bought an 06 330i new in 2005. It was his Christmas present and he literally put 10k down just to get the payment low because he was financing it for 5 years. He ended up selling it 4 years later when he was almost done paying it off (not that smart) LOL and we got an Infiniti G37 instead. He was afraid of the reliability in the long run. BMW was slower, but hugged the road better than the Infiniti. But we know the infiniti's reliability is way better than the bimmer's. The Infiniti still puts a smile on my face to this day :)

    Good review. Been looking in the used 3-series market because I have an aversion for the comatose 2 liter 4 banger in the newer 328i models. I also think that this tiny "twin powered turbo" (not twin turbo) engine in the larger 5-series (528i) would be subject to significant stress when driven aggressively, as opposed to the older 6 cyl 325i & 525i.

    In your high mileage e90, what mechanical breakdowns have you experienced? Im trying to make up my mind whether it would be worth paying $3800 for my extended warranty. Has anyone spent over $3000-$4000 in repairs not maintenance or common wear and tear items? Thank you all who responds.

    Chances the HPFP was changed under warranty so the only thing to worry about in these cars in the long run is carbon build up due to the direct injection but other than that they're awesome. That's why I'm not sold on direct injection because whatever fuel costs you save will go towards getting the carbon cleaned out every 2 years so you really save nothing but the companies will market it differently.

    • @IKhanNot
      @IKhanNot 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Audi is using both the port and direct injection method in their FSI motors so the intake valve gets washed with fuel. The new DI motors in the MBs are too new to have issues so time will tell. Right now your best bet would be to go with an MB with the older M272 unit, smooth as silk and bulletproof reliable except the early build ones.

    Redline Reviews Avoid early models with the cumbersome iDrive interface? More like avoid any model with iDrive - you're paying a premium for a crap system. I have a 2008 535i LCI with the updated iDrive and I hate it. My 335i has no iDrive because it simply takes away from the driving experience. Sport package (specifically the sport models with the oil cooler) is a MUST. DO NOT buy a 335i without an oil cooler unless you don't drive it hard.

    Why do some people like the paddle shfters mounted on the column instead of the steering wheel? Wouldn't it be easier to shift this way?

    • @zxbc1
      @zxbc1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't understand it either. I guess it has to do with the fact that the steering ratio on most road cars makes it so that the paddles end up in very unpredictable and awkward locations during a turn, and it's always better to be able to reach to a consistent location for that gear change vs having to think about where it is constantly. But again, how often do you really need to shift during a big turn? Personally I find it easier when the paddles are mounted to the wheel simply because they tend to be closer to the fingers, without me having to reach very far.

    • @MegaTechpc
      @MegaTechpc 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When the paddles are mounted on the steering column they are always in the same place no matter how the wheel is turned so its easier to find up or down when your focus is on the road and the corners. Wheel-mounted paddles can change position when the wheel is upside down making up down and vice versa which is undesirable...

    • @theproweb
      @theproweb 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      From experience: You're making a hard turn, you want to downshift, with a steering wheel mounted one, you're gonna have a bad time, because you don't sense where the paddles will be. With a column shifted one, you can do the shift because you know where they are by memory. Just like with a manual, you know where the shifter is.

      @@Vitor-Moraes That car caught on fire, its gone. I got another one with higher mileage well maintained and put nearly 4,000 miles already hassle free. The only issue arised recently where the car had overvoltage from the alternator's Voltage regulator. Changing it myself but waiting for the part. If It's fixed, thats the only thing that has stopped the car from running at really high mileage. No oil leaks or anything.
      Long story short, with these cars. It is not about mileage, its about how well it was previously maintained. I have realized though, these cars are not daily drivers. They can be, but something will go wrong at some point. These cars, especially now 11 years old are weekend cars or "fun" cars. If you can keep your Golf, definitely pick one of these cars up. The look on Mustang GT's and Charger Scatpack faces as I blow past them are hilarious(Just Downpipes, Tune, Intake, Intercooler amd off the shelf tune gives 400+whp easy and over 430wtq). It's really the Ultimate Driving Machine. It will get addicting. I am at 414whp, 448wtq right now. I will be getting upgraded turbos soon when I sell my other car and get a gas saver 🤣 and push about 550whp/550wtq.
