  • A few folks have commented on my attire over the past few months. I think that's a legitimate query, so I decided to let folks know why my garb looks the way it does.

    One of my favorite things about this video is all the comments from people who think the title is something they are supposed to answer.
    That's not how TH-cam works, kids.
    But you do keep me chuckling.

    Cowboy boots in the desert are also practical. They have a measure of protection against snake bite.

      TheStonehammerFiles not practical, don't offer very good grip and slip easy. Any pair of well made quality heavy duty leather boots will likely offer better protection against possible bites and better traction.

    I'm a city boy from the Nevada desert, I dress " country " because its comfortable and looks nice. I wear a cowboy hat at work and around town in the summer because I work outside a lot of the time and it's hot as balls. I just love the country sense of respect, plus it's not uncommon to see ranchers out here. And yes, damn near all of us carry a firearm lol.

    I'm 60 and for the better part of 55 years I've been dressing in western apparel. It all started back in 1965 when I turned 5 and got my first set of white pearl handle single action six shooters and gun belt. I was hooked. Well, I started dressing like 'cowboy' because of my family.
    Dad always dressed like that, just without the hat, and he dressed me like that since I was a kid, and I tried some other styles but to be honest, I'm not comfortable with the other ones.
    Right now I wear a hat, not always, just when it's kind of sunny and hot out there and I found that it's more comfortable than a baseball cap.

    You hit the nail on the head when you said because you can. I've worn western clothes since I was old enough to buy my own. I fell in love with the west when I was a kid and watched Roy Rodgers and and Sky King on Saturday morning kid's television shows in the early 50's New Jersey where I grew up. In 1975 when I was 27 rears old I got some balls I sold everything I didn't think I'd need and along with my wife and 8 year old daughter packed up my pickup and headed out west to look for a homestead. We ended up in Montana and bought 37 acres in the Rockys. We lived in an army wall tent the first year while we built our first cabin. I worked odd jobs I could find and actually worked on some ranches and was a part time cowboy for a spell Lol. Cool video but the shoes with toes,,, well I'm still wearin boots. Keep making videos, your good at it.

    As I see it, you don't really need a special reason to dress as a cowboy other than the fact that you like western wear and love the cowboy look. Whether you're male or female, if you've always identified with the old westerns of yesteryear (who hasn't?), then that's all the reason it should be to dress as you see fit. The cowboy is the American symbol of independence, strength, and the will to do what's right. So cowboy/cowgirl up!

But even the bending of the side brim of the hat wasn't done as fashion it started when ranch workers went from horse back to driving trucks. Workers start bending the brim of hat so the hat wouldn't bump the door or B-piller of a truck. But if I'm out side working in 100f heat I would want a flat brim western hat that protects my face neck and shoulders from desert sun.

So I switched to them square-toed horse kickers. I'll be goin' for the JW Shootist look when I can get some of those 19th century repro cloths. I have a 19th century repro holster and a 2" wide belt for it. And a new Colt SAA with 5.5" barrel, stainless plated and satin black grips. Since my hairs getting grey-n-white, that part of Duke's older character will be easy! lol And it always amazes me how the desert can be 140 in the daytime. Then down to like 45-50 at night!? The only thing that kinda threw me off a little is the 5-finger Vibram shoe:) Them shoes mismatch your outfit so much, it’s incredible :) Plus, I suspect you don’t want to feel every little stone and rock with your toes. But, hey, that is your choice of shoes and I respect that.

I do, because I like it and every item, boots, hat and even the gun are items I never leave the house without. They're all practical, and really, just part of the tools of the trade. That all makes sense, but what about the guy in a city that's walking through the mall?
    And after he's done shop and he goes home to a suburban house with no horses and no farm.
    But he does have a nice patio with a swing set in the back for the kids.

    okay first you need to know the definition of cowboy which is someone who herds or tends cattle/cows... its not a dress style. you can wear a business suite and dress shoes and drive a Prius and if you herd cattle your a cowboy.
    the way you dress is called WESTERN. its a style. and usually consist of the boots the hat ect... yes cowboys dress western naturally because of the work they do.
    if you see someone wearing western style clothes dont be thinking oh jeez look at this fake cowboy...
    also riding a horse doesn't make you a cowboy either. if people want to dress western let them theres nothing wrong with it.
    when you see someone wearing baggy pants hanging below his waste with an over sized shirt on does that make him a rapper? or fake rapper? lol
    let people wear what they want. and worry about your selfs.

    Friendly Troll Warning:Don't forget the rattlers! A pistol is very handy out there.The hat; I used to be all about the BB cap until I bought my first Stetson in '12, (rather my only Stetson as I haven't bought a second one... Yet.) This is a more practical head piece than any worn by men anywhere, and most ladies dig it.I miss my Jean Jacket, haven't worn one since the late 80's but, it really was a great guard against the sun and traipsing through brambles. The oiled dusters I've worn since then are just as practical, if not better. Kudos to you for rocking an ageless style.The shoes... Can't formulate an opinion as I haven't ever worn a pair. I regularly wear over-ankle Hiking shoes and occasionally wear a pair of very expensive Tony Lama boots I bought on a whim while in North Dakota on a Old West tour. Both of these have protected my feet on numerous adventures into the wilder areas of the west and Alaska. I hope you never have to encounter a Devil's Club in those Toe Shoes, lol.

      Mojave Greens are some of the deadliest pit vipers in the world. I haven't seen any, but believe me, I sure ain't forgetting about them!
      No need to worry about a Devil's Club out in the desert, as those are more of a forest plant. However, the Goat Head (Tribulus terrestris) is the big concern in Los Angeles and plain old creosote branches can be quite sharp.

    I dress like a cowgirl because I love it. I wear Loblan cowboy boots every day in life, and most times a beaver fur stetson. I'm comfortable and I love westerns. Being in Scotland, it is strange and I can't wear a gun in public, but hey, if others don't like it, fine. Don't comment on other peoples' lives until yours is perfect.

    • @LuthorvilleCA
      @LuthorvilleCA  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't owned a pair of long johns since I was in gradeschool. You are right, they do seem to be worn by lots of cowboys in the movies, but I'm not sure if that is historically accurate or just a film cliche.

    I dress similar except mine is a Marlboro jean jacket my leather hat is two tone from eBay and I wear plain tanish brown cowboy boots I also have to wear my shoulder holster more than my rig but my question is if your not trying to look like a cowboy then why not wear a sombrero? Or wear a modern glock or 1911? I personally have a colt 1851 sheriff reproduction in the 44cal I have some glove shoes but only for jet ski outfits. If your gonna dress the part do it right or it’s an insult and have some self respect at least get some leather shoes with gel souls!

    I dress that way for my mom ran from my dad ( she was a "entitled mom" ), and I watched the old TV westerns like Roy Rogers, Hop along Cassidy, Bat Masterson, Have gun will travel, The lone ranger ( which I called "The long ranger" for years 😀 ), etc. I played cowboy and got my great aunt mad when I was shot and fell on the floor, she was putting coal in the funace, those shows replaced my dad until I saw him at age 21 👍. I have 3 pairs of cowboy boots, I'm trying to walk again from almost dying ( in the hospital for a week ) and I might not be able to get them off 😋.

    I hiked extensively in Joshua Tree National Park in my Luna huarache sandals, the early ones with a very thin sole and traditional laces :) Much better (for me) than my Vibram Five Fingers. The Five Fingers give you an illusion of protection - you have none, especially in the desert environment. The huaraches are pretty much up front about it. They say "Dude, you're barefoot! Be here. Now. Or pay the price" :)

    • @LuthorvilleCA
      @LuthorvilleCA  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vibram Five Fingers are not the illusion of protection - they are just very minimal protection. Believe me, I am extremely careful where I step. I've been running and hiking in them for years and I've never been injured by rocks or sticks, but the soles are so thin, I know a misplaced piece of glass or nail could go right through them. Thanks for telling be about Luna Sandals. I usually hate sandals, since they aren't really attached to your feet, but those look quite promising. I'll have to look into them a little more! Thanks again for the tip and thanks for watching.
