Hi i just want to ask that can we use headphones with audio splitter while recording the video for digital examination? as it's so hard to hear the backing track while playing acoustic drums.. Please let me know..
Good video. I did my grade 4 and 5 recently and always chose playback as I read, think the improvise would be interesting though. Sitting my Grade 7 this Sunday. 50 Ways, Rope and TF is Toxicity.
@@harryjohnson8617 Well done! Yes got most of them, will add the rest soon, playlist is here: th-cam.com/play/PLcfoni8UPb9p3ORtfay6ByB-ARS51jqkb.html Cheers!
Thank you for your video! I have my exam tomorrow and I have taught myself and this is the first grade I am doing.. do I need to know about my piece. For example, will they say what’s the time signature
Hi Mike, I am in grade 5 currently and have only just begun. I recently heard that you are able to choose your own songs that aren’t on the grade syllabus to play at exams and am shocked, was just wondering, is this true and if so surley their would be some requirements right? Google is being much help haha. Thanks
@@MikeBarnesDrums Thankyou, I am just confused as they seem to contradict themselves, it’s not really your own song though it’s just an extra few songs to choose from I suppose, will contact them, thanks so much!
True, but I'd 100% recommend working through and learning the session skills part in any case. The point of these grades, for me, is to develop your skills - not just to get a certificate. The session skills part helps develop very cool skills that are v useful in the world of being a musician!
You can do whatever grade levels you like, when you like! But my best advice would be to start at the beginning and work your way through, looking at all the pieces as you go: th-cam.com/video/tFPGG7zxxX8/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
Thanks Mike this was a very useful video! My son did Rockschool grades 1 and 2 and is about to do Trinity R&P grade 3. It took me ages to figure out that he only needed to do 3 pieces and improvisation (or playback). I’m trying to find out whether the drum kit at the exam venue will have 2 crash cymbals because he uses them both for Sweet Child O’ Mine...
Cherry Picker definitely check. Our centre only has one. I think I will take my own from now on as well just to be sure. There’s nothing worse than getting into an exam room and being floored by something small that’s not right
farniecopson I totally agree, but they are not being very forthcoming about what is provided at the centre. I think I will borrow a cymbal and just hope that the other 8 pieces are already there...
bro your energy is incredible
Thanks a lot, this helped a cos I’m doing mine next month, and I’m glad all the pieces are worth 80% cos I’m more confident with them.
Cool man, good luck!

Mike Barnes Drums - thanks. Did my grade 7 exam yesterday and got a Merit. Have you got all the grade 8 songs on video?

I love the fact they're not genre snobby, I mean their bass grade 8 has Tommy the cat by Primus!

@@MikeBarnesDrums What’s your all time favourite song to play in all the trinity rock and pop grade? 😊
i’m just wondering, does with or without click have any affect on the grades?
No, you can choose either - and that in itself doesn't affect your Grading, how to play does! :) Thanks for watching.
I finished grade 4 and am confused, I have never done the session skills, I just play 3 songs and leave the exam.
Session skills not part of the digital exam, only in face-to-face exams.
@ Ahh that makes sense, thankyou so much. I seem to get marked the extra 20 on other stuff anyway… thanks !
1st like im !! ❤️thanks you mike sir love from india
Thanks for watching!
If u enter digitally you don't have to do the session skills part. Just the 3 songs!

Not to be that guy, because I know I shouldn't anyway. But can you skip grades?

Cool, no worries - glad this info was useful! The exam centres that my students go to have 2 crashes, but yes it's definitely best to check! Cheers!
