I have one with very large red/orange flowers. About 40 years old (estimated). It has never been repotted and it is infested with scale insect, so the number of blooms over the years has declined significantly. It is hanging under a big skylight and will require a tall step ladder and a strong helper to remove it and take it to the potting bench for insect removal and repotting. You have given me the confidence to remedy my years of bad management! I will have to use beekeeping gloves that protect my arms up to the armpits from the invisible thorns! I wish I could leave you a photo of it when it was in its prime.
My German Empress got sick recently, most of the leaves turned yellow and started dying. I'm going to follow your instruction. Hope It will bloom next year. Thank you for sharing.

Instead of perlite, can I use pumice, to keep it down because perlite tends to float on top of the soil.

Can we use chicken manure in place of osmocote and secondly seaweed fertilizer in place of fish fertilizer .My epiphyllum leaves are getting dried.
