He says "chore-ness" in that opening bus stop scene, as a reply to Peter saying "Lateness!!" Because his mom made him clean his room before he could leave. But I definitely remember having no fucking clue what he was saying there when I was little. Took me 20+ years to decipher that gibberish 😅
I would roleplay this movie with my friends and we would blade around my school after hrs and pretend we had a blade group and i was the leader brink 😂😂😂
Oh my god, Boomer is Zack Taylor the original black power ranger who I also noticed in an episode of Buffy for the first time last night This is a sign. I don't know what of, but definitely a sign.
I'm going to mention how Disney made DCOM about fraternal twins, with one having a developmental disability and how the regular twin copes with their twin with a disability. It's called Tru Confessions, and that movie had me bawling with how mature it was. You really should check it out.
i love the fact that everybody has 'their' DCOM, like the one that resonated with them the most and that they randomly think about for the rest of their life. mine is the mermaid boy one and idk what that says about me but man do i think about that weird ass movie more often than i should
That movie was my SHIT. Despite seeing it for the first time in reruns since I was maybe 3(?) when I first watched it and it had been out for 9 years at that point but I loved it so much. Though be careful rewatching it, it wasn't as exciting with adult eyeballs as my memory had built it up since childhood
Brink says "Choreness!" toward the beginning since his mom made him do chores. I felt it was my duty to let you know! Also, this has been one of my top favorite DCOMs since it came out. You're absolutely killing it with your video topics lately. (Btw, this movie is based on a story called Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates. I found that out a few years back and had to share.)
The principle’s response after Val eats the sandwhich with worms in it is SAVAGE. Val- “I thought I saw a bug or something” Principle- “well, GET OVER IT” 👍🏼😂
Finally someone who sees that Val had a major crush on Brink. Now if anyone else has any Val/Brink fics let me know. Because I wrote one and I can't find any more.
That moment right before the final race when Val turns to give Brink the most psychotic smirk ever has been on the back of my mind since i was a kid. He looks completely unhinged.
All those Disney Channel Original Movies were bangers back in the day. Johnny Tsunami, Smart House, and the Thirteenth Year were some of my favorites along with Brink.
This film came out around the time of stuff like George of the Jungle or 13th year and Johnny Tsunami and really solidified my craving for goofy athletic people. Disney really slayed me
Had the worst day at work,I asked god to show me a sign that all would be okay and then Jordy uploads a new vid. Say what you will but god’s timing is always right and we love her for it.
This was the coolest movie when I was in kindergarten. All the boys would run around the playground at recess jumping off stuff pretending we had rollerblades on. Erik Von Detten was the absolute coolest.
You should check out So Weird. Seven year old me had such a crush on Patrick Levis in it. Plus it was kind of the end of Disney Channel’s “actual drama” era lol.
I was a aggressive inline skater during this time period. This movie meant so much to me. I recorded it on my VCR TV when it came out and watched it almost everyday for like 2 years. That was a bit much and the movie does have it's cringe but, I related to Brink and the movie so much it was like watching my life and pushing me to get better at whatever I was doing at the time. I try not to be nostolgia driven.. but this brings me back to times I wish I could go back to. I wish I had those 98-01 problems again!
Holy scnikeys, when you started talking about inline skaters vs. skaters, I immediately said, "it's like tennis vs. pickleball is right now." Then seconds later, you made that very analogy. GMTA, something something mindmeld, etc.
Boomer is played by Walter Emanuel Jones, the Black Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and he looks younger in this movie than he does in Power Rangers and Power Rangers was like 5 years before this. Also, Brink, Alley Cat Strikes and Luck of the Irish are some of my favourite DCOMs. Plenty more but I always remember them fondly.
This movie was such a good watch, even as a teenage skateboarder in the 90's. I'd still love to be sponsored by Team Pup 'n Suds!!! Soul skaters 4 life!!!
Loved your cup stacking video, and as someone who actually does aggressive skating, thought I could help out with a few questions and clear a couple of things up. 1. Did skateboarders hate rollerbladers? Yes, and this movie showed a very sugar coated version of that, more on that later. 2. Does jumping on a ramp and landing give you more speed? No, you normally lose some speed. 3. Do you have to grab when you jump? Grabbing in the air does help control your body in mid air, but downhill racing competitions aren't a real thing so the rules are whatever the script writers say. Now to clear up a couple things, while aggressive rollerblading did fall off massively in the mid to late 00's, it's not exactly accurate to say it flopped. Aggressive rollerblading was massive in the mid to late 90s. In fact, it was one of, if not the most heavily promoted sports in the first two years of the X Games, and pro competitions outside of the X Games were played on ESPN and Fox sports pretty commonly. Skateboarding as an industry and culture felt slighted because they had 20 years of history but were getting put behind a brand new sport. This animosity and rollerblading's recreational roots lead to a homophobic joke amongst skateboarding culture that eventually permeated into popular culture and thus tanked aggressive inline. Rollerblading content creater Tom Moyse made a really good video on this subject that you can check out here. th-cam.com/video/0_d8gx1ZRLQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0URueXPltfUriQo0
Quickly becoming one of my favorite current YT channels. Was a great watch, hope you do more rando nostalgia stuff like this. I almost forgot this movie existed.
Jumping off the ramp wasn’t necessarily a speedboost, but rather it helped her to cut the corner to gain an advantage over Brink who had to take the full corner. Kind of a cool scene cuz of that lol
for years my brain always confuses Brink and Genius, the movie with the kid that rigs a hockey game with the anti gravity skates, late 90's early 2000's dcoms were all art
I'm 36. I was ten when this aired. Brink, the paper brigade and Johnny Tsunami made my young self sooooo hyped. I recorded on VHS and watched it sooooo much. I even bought my first pair of Walmart roller blades. And for a time my AIM s/n was BrinkBlader88 lol and it had an amazing soundtrack, the suicide machines and fastball.
To slightly correct what Gabriella told Brink. You don’t sellout by doing something you love for money. It’s when you stop loving it, or don’t believe in what you’re doing anymore, but you keep doing it anyway for the money. That’s when you become a sellout. Doing what you love for a living isn’t just the American dream. It’s everybody’s dream.
Correct it’s crazy how so many adults who watch this movie miss that message when it is exactly what is said in the movie. Don’t let things define you do them because you enjoy
Even as a kid at 9 or 10, I always thought Brink's dad was a naysayer and uptight, needed to lighten about his son's passion for skating. Like when was the last time he was so passionate about something that he didn't care what people thought about it? Now as an adult, I can see where dad is coming from and he means well. He wants what's best for his kids and what dad wouldn't? But still, I'm glad he came around in the end.
I had Barbie rollerblades, but I couldn’t do it. One day I was playing around with them on the garage floor. I was sitting on the ground of course. Rolled my feet around a bit, took them off and kept playing with my hands. Just checking em out, flicking the wheels. Then a bee, which must’ve been conjured or teleported bc it wasn’t there before, stung me in the armpit. I just started wailing, thankful the skates were off already. I was 5, and I’m pretty sure I never touched those skates again
I'm dating myself here but this was literally me and my brothers favorite movie ever at the time. Along with probably Three Ninjas. Watched this shit more times than I can process... definitely a hidden gem of the Disney lineup
oooo i get sooo excited when you post, I can’t wait to watch it!!!!!!❤️ Update: amazing, as always✨ i especially LOVE the cameo from the skates, epic cherry on top
As a skateboarder who grew up in the 90's, I can safely say that... YES! Rollerbladers were considered the enemy and we used to beat the living shit out of each other.
this video unlocked something DEEP in my brain. could not believe how much i remembered from this movie also your videos are like the perfect combo of the humor of chelsea peretti and jenna marbles thank u for your service
@11:30 I was thinking that exact same thing when you showed the shot of the mother. Warm super soft lighting, close hard focus on the subject. Soap opera vibes.
I was more of a ‘Gleaming the Cube’ kid. Come to think of it, Christian Slater was in all my fave ‘90s movies…the aforementioned skate flick, Pump Up the Volume, Interview with the Vampire, etc.
This movie is so nostalgic to me! I remember watching this in ‘98 when it premiered! To this day that Look Before You Leap song during Brink’s double life work/skate montage will randomly play in my head
As a rollerblader, this movie is a staple of mine and friends' childhood. Edit.. It was so hard to find this movie after my first viewing in 08-09, woke up in the middle of the night to this movie. My friends and I had to look it up on TH-cam, and found some low quality versions of the flick. It was nice to watch again when I tried out Disney Plus.
Or as I looked at it - "when Jack and Clu took a year off from touring and exploring the supernatural with Fi and their mum to try competitive skating" 🥰
This format of video essay is wonderful. Gives me the feeling of just hanging out with a friend chit chatting about stuff from our childhood. Thanks for that. Keep it up!
You just made me remember my first crush ever: Christina Ricci in Casper! I was probably 4 or 5. Idk. But somehow you pulled that out of my memory banks so thank you 🙏
Just to answer your question about why they didn't skate to the park is because aggressive skates aren't ideal for long distance skating. The wheels are small and really hard so they could grind and are made for short distance and smooth services. Just FYI lol
This movie was my life as a kid! Only thing thats changed seeing this now is I used to get mad at val for throwing the gravel into the path, but now, as a person who still downhill skates, I’m mad at Gabriella for being unable to handle a little gravel presumably on 72 or 80mm wheels! And her falling form was crazy, most unbelievable part of the whole story her caliber if skater should have been fine
In answer to your question: I would think that holding your skates would probably help you be a bit more stable in the air and land a bit faster. Think of it this way: why does doing a cannonball into a pool make a bigger splash than a normal jump? Because bringing your legs behind you increases the velocity of your drop. I would guess the same laws of physics apply in this scenario. Also, yes, it looks cooler.
The mysterious TH-cam algorithm got this video/your channel into into my feed. Looks like it finally worked. Subscribed! Already watched your Don't Look Under the Bed and Cup Stacking videos as well.
You should do more of the dcoms from our childhood 👌🏽 some suggestions, the 13th yr, under wraps, horse sense. I honestly could keep going lol def love your style of videos, the first v8d i saw of yours was the cup stacking one and it was so good i was surprised you had under 100k subs, youre awesome
Brink! This was my first Disney channel original movie. I thought i was Brink, rollerblading around my neighborhood, jumping little 1/2 inch sidewalk cracks.
I just want Jordy to know just how much this video changed me. I’ve been going through a very dark time in my life. Working through a lot of childhood trauma. This is the first time I’ve been recommended a Jordy McNeill so I’m genuine when I say that this video shook me on a deep level. Her analysis of this movie is just perfect! Every question, every reaction, and every remark she makes was my reaction. I have loved the movie Brink since seeing it in 1997 when I was 9-10. This movie, along with the Mighty Ducks/Sandlot/Rookie of the Year, was my life. I wanted to BE Andy “Brink” Brinker! Watching her call out Brink on his bullshit, simping for Pete, the sexual tension between Zander and Brink! I had never felt so seen before. It was truly one of the most cathartic feeling. I just wanted her, and anyone else who needs to hear this, to know that someone out there in the abyss sees you. You are valid and allowed to be your true authentic self.
This is the most lovely, kind comment I’ve ever gotten, you had me crying! Thank you so much for sharing, this means so so much to me and was so wonderful to read 💖 This meant the whole world to me, you are amazing
@@jordysyoutubechannel Not gonna lie, geeking pretty hard right now! I’m glad my comment came across as sweet and hopeful as I meant it. I’ve been binging your videos all weekend, so you truly have a new fan!
Brink was my favorite DCOM as a kid. I was 4 when it came out, but they used to show DCOMs at like 2am all the time. I loved when it was Brink. I also was an ice skater and roller balder lol
Never saw Brink, but in the early 90s there was a movie called Airborne that had a lot of roller blading that I liked. Also, it had a young Jack Black playing one of the main villian's sidekicks.
"Skate better" is one of the most iconic quotes in all of DCOM history.
Still dropped between my brother and me to this day. Even got my wife to say it.
This is still a go to phrase for me in many situations. Does anyone get the reference? typically no. Am I happy anyway? heck yes!
I say it all the time
He says "chore-ness" in that opening bus stop scene, as a reply to Peter saying "Lateness!!" Because his mom made him clean his room before he could leave. But I definitely remember having no fucking clue what he was saying there when I was little. Took me 20+ years to decipher that gibberish 😅
"I guess they'll let anybody skate here," my brother in christ, you're on a public road
he didn’t do it for the money. he didn’t do it for the clout. since it was the 90s he did it all for the nookie
So he could take that cookie and stick it up his (yeah)
where did he put it tho?????
THIS IS THE QUESTION I NEED TO KNOW
after watching it for the first time, i did write a little outline for a val/brink childhood friends to enemies to lovers, and i stand by it
They are literally flirting and giving each other such a hard time!!! I am just waiting for them to smooch LMFAO
I would roleplay this movie with my friends and we would blade around my school after hrs and pretend we had a blade group and i was the leader brink 😂😂😂
stop thats so iconic
all the kids in my neighborhood did this, too 😂 since I was the youngest I *always* had to be on Team X Blades
Right!?
We also did this in Miami in the 90s lol
Oh my god, Boomer is Zack Taylor the original black power ranger who I also noticed in an episode of Buffy for the first time last night
This is a sign. I don't know what of, but definitely a sign.
He is a LEGEND 4ever
The 90s belonged to him
Walter E Jones

omg i must
i love that movie so much, like don't love that shia laboeuf was playing the disabled kid, but it's so freaking sweet
😢
There is no heterosexual explanation for val getting that close to brink and asking “do you think I’m a jerk?” 👀
He’s figuring out some stuff 😂
Val was single-handedly responsible for turning hundreds of straight teen boys gay.
He was really hoping for open season on brink's butt
Most of the old teen movies so gay codded all current shows about lgbt or querrbating are not even close to the level of gayness of the old movies
There's a few moments like that in this movie. 😅
Jordy adding professional roller blader to her repertoire✅
working on my 540 as we speak
Cup stacking followed up by brink? This channel is popping off on nostalgia!
i love the fact that everybody has 'their' DCOM, like the one that resonated with them the most and that they randomly think about for the rest of their life. mine is the mermaid boy one and idk what that says about me but man do i think about that weird ass movie more often than i should
Toba kid enters shot horn noise
That was the Thirteenth Year. I don't know why I remember the name because I haven't seen it since I was a kid 😂

Funny how Val is the same kid from the movie Little Giants. He plays Spike but essentially the same kind of character. Love this reaction!
That's who he is!! I knew I recognized from somewhere, I loved Little Giants!
The principle’s response after Val eats the sandwhich with worms in it is SAVAGE.
Val- “I thought I saw a bug or something”
Principle- “well, GET OVER IT”
👍🏼😂
Just a perfect unnecessary touch to this movie 😂
You are seriously my favorite girlie TH-camr. No one is doing it like you, queen.
means EVERYTHING
Amen
Val was ACTING!! I hope he got his flowers
he really shined!
"Yeah, Brink...Don't you sell out! Don't you go corporate, Brink! You gotta just SK8 FROM UR HEART, DUDE!"
Why does Val slay so hard? He looks yassified it's crazy
Also I looked into Vals actor and he graduated high school at 16 or something! Wtf
HAHAHHAA he is literally the blueprint of yassification
Val was the only person who was willing to help Brink and his family. Brink’s friends are the real villains of that movie.
in the 90s and 2000's skate boardes & bmx riders absolutely hated rollerbladers. it was a bonding experience
So true😂😂
Finally someone who sees that Val had a major crush on Brink. Now if anyone else has any Val/Brink fics let me know. Because I wrote one and I can't find any more.
Yeah, but Val could seduce anyone though. Chuck Norris was straight until he met Val.
That moment right before the final race when Val turns to give Brink the most psychotic smirk ever has been on the back of my mind since i was a kid. He looks completely unhinged.
oh the beef between roller blading and skateboard was more like "youre a fruit booter?" "well better then a wood pusher"
💯💯💯correct! Accept skateboards really had no respect for fruit booters. And the world agreed 🤣🤣🤣💯
motocrossed was surprisingly progressive for the time, if you want to do that next.
i LOVED motocrossed
Literally one of my favorite movies idc idc lol
I loved that movie so much
Wow I hella forgot about this one, another great OG Disney channel movie.
This movie is responsible for me being a skater for the past 23 years 🛹 Great video, Jordy!
All those Disney Channel Original Movies were bangers back in the day. Johnny Tsunami, Smart House, and the Thirteenth Year were some of my favorites along with Brink.
i loved patrick and erik in so weird☹️so i literally ate up brink😭
This film came out around the time of stuff like George of the Jungle or 13th year and Johnny Tsunami and really solidified my craving for goofy athletic people. Disney really slayed me
Had the worst day at work,I asked god to show me a sign that all would be okay and then Jordy uploads a new vid. Say what you will but god’s timing is always right and we love her for it.
IM HONORED
This was the coolest movie when I was in kindergarten. All the boys would run around the playground at recess jumping off stuff pretending we had rollerblades on. Erik Von Detten was the absolute coolest.
I have been WAITING for the next Jordy drop. Thank u for this
you are welcome!
i vividly remember the violent hair flipping for every movement, and “nunya.”
😭
I genuinely love that Brink still occupies people's memories against their will

I honestly could keep going lol def love your style of videos, the first v8d i saw of yours was the cup stacking one and it was so good i was surprised you had under 100k subs, youre awesome
How does every single video of yours slap harder than the last it’s actually crazy 🤯
Brink! This was my first Disney channel original movie. I thought i was Brink, rollerblading around my neighborhood, jumping little 1/2 inch sidewalk cracks.
you WERE brink
Brink was one of my favorites back in the day! I literally wore out the video tape, after watching it everyday!! XD
I have been talking about this movie all week! I’m so happy I came across this video! Thank you so much. Haha
This is where I learned about Nunya!
I feel like Val is in love with brink that’s the real enemies to lovers
Hi Jordy, you are one of my favorite youtubers, you're super funny and super cute! Thanks for being!
JORDY POSTED.. DAY SAVED
this felt like watching a commentary video from another dimension
Brink was my favorite DCOM as a kid. I was 4 when it came out, but they used to show DCOMs at like 2am all the time. I loved when it was Brink.
I also was an ice skater and roller balder lol
Ur a soul sk8r, very rad vid
i get the fast and the furious vibes from this for some reason.
Never saw Brink, but in the early 90s there was a movie called Airborne that had a lot of roller blading that I liked. Also, it had a young Jack Black playing one of the main villian's sidekicks.
