  • Welcome to fishing in Bangkok. The aim of these videos is to help show foreign anglers the many options around Bangkok for fishing.
Everyone knows about Bungsamran a very popular lake on the out skirts of Bangkok but now with them charging 4000B ($125) just for the single rod ticket maybe you would like to know about other options. 4000B for a day ticket to use one rod + bait + bungalow + rod and real rental + guide + landing net. Well you get the idea it soon builds up to cost anywhere from 7000B ($220) and more depending on the bungalow you choose.
There are many other lesser known options around Bangkok that can offer a great days fishing at a much lower cost. I am lucky enough to live in Bangkok and have been to visit many of the smaller less well-known lakes available within a 1-2-hour drive of the downtown. So, if you’re interested in Fishing around Bangkok and you don’t want to break the bank please like and subscribe so you don’t miss the next adventure.
In this video we visited Bung Buk. Translated to English this would be Mekong lake. Its north of Bangkok by about 40 to 50 minutes from the center of Bangkok. Fishing is 150B or $5 per rod. You can buy a big bucket of breadcrumbs there for 180B $5.70. if you don’t have your own rod and real the guys at the office there told me they will rent you equipment for 100B $3 a day.
The lake is located at 13.9096388, 100.6836690 unfortunately the only English in Google maps is sports complex! You are better off searching the coordinates above or cut and paste this Thai language in to google maps บ่อตกปลาบึงบึก
At this lake you will be fishing from the bank. There is no raised platforms like you find at many Thai lakes. There are no landing nets. If you have a landing net you can use it but the fish are big so you will need a strong net. We tend to take the photos in the water as you can see in the video. This is safe for the fish, but the water is dirty. Full of plastic. I would try your best to keep your head above the water. There are shelters around the side in case of rain but don’t expect much. Its literally 4 posts and a roof. I believe they are open from 7am-10pm but after it gets dark you best be ready with bug spray. The main reception area sells drinks and they will make you Thai food. There are toilets in the main building also. They sell some basic end tackle. Hooks and floats but don’t expect much. Best to go with your own gear if you can. They told me they would rent you a rod and real for 100B or $3. The guy who works there (old guy with glasses) he can talk good English and will help you out.
Most people are fishing with bread or ram to get the Mekong and the striped catfish. You can fish with live bait here or lures. They are very flexible. You see in the video I wanted a chao phraya catfish as I have never caught one before. By the end of the day I had 2 so I guess that’s a success. My friends where fishing with bread and had a good day on the Mekong’s. The lake can be quiet in terms of bites in the day when the sun is at its strongest, all the action seems to be in the early hours or after 2pm.
This is what i would call a Thai style lake so be aware if a Thai guy comes and fishes a few feet away from you this is perfectly acceptable in Thailand. This is the same with may lakes around Thailand. If you are looking for your own guaranteed space you would need to go to a western style lake. Having said that however this lake is not normally bad as the lake is big and there is plenty of space. At smaller lakes or at Bungsamran on the top end of the common pier this can become frustrating when people are casting over you and every one is getting tangled.
So if you’re interested in joining me as I test out some other local Bangkok lakes please like and subscribe.
