If they are not happy with what you pass along, then they could switch to another video. Thanks for sharing the information and I will continue to follow you
You made your point very well and those are: 1. Medigap does cover you nationwide with no out of pocket costs but can be very expensive. 2. Medicare Advantage is cheaper. You still have to pay Medicare part B. It covers you but only in the locality where you got it from. 3. Medicare advantage does cover you abroad ONLY for emergencies. You still have to pay out of your pocket prior to reimbursing your EMERGENCY case. Thanks for the info. As a future retiree, it becomes clearer to me that I should get a cheaper Medicare advantage plan instead of a Medigap plan.
TY for this very valuable information. As I am planning my Exodus to another country, I really appreciate these points. Be Well, Live Free and Prosper!
Thank you so much for the clarity of your explanation regarding the Advantage Plan. Now I decided to take Humana w/ Advantage Plan of 0 premium w/ worldwide coverage. Thank you, Sir Vlogger Grandpa, USA.
Very educational especially for US/Filipino nationals going to the Philippines. Security and peace of mind whenever you go for balikbayan vacation in the Philippine. Thank you Sir. I am from Canada and I appreciate your educational guidance especially if you are a senior citizen.
me and my husband were listening to this video in the car..it was really interesting to hear the huge difference between the supplemental versus the advantage..I always thought supplemental is better, but when we retire, we will definitely rethink about getting the advantage plan instead...thanks grandpa!
Thank you very much Sir very informative and you have really done your research thank you again for the information God bless you and be with you and every Walk of Life thank you Sir
We have a Lot of excellent Philippine nurses and doctors who work in the USA. So I’m not surprised that people would get amazing health care in the Philippines🇵🇭
Just want to let you know that we appreciate all your vlogs about immigration, retirement & travels. We enjoy watching your very informative vlogs. God Bless!
Mr Grandpa Vlogger - you are a very nice person- the informations that you give are so knowledgeable esp to people who would like to retire in the PH. You have spent a lot of time like researching which are very useful . It is quite possible some Fil- Ams may make up their minds . What you are conveying are practical tips and hopefully make up their minds. I and probably other persons may heed your advices. Thank you so much reading your vlogs.
Wow! I wish I saw this vlog 2-weeks ago before Federal and Medicare open season ended… As a retired VA/Federal employee nurse, there are interesting choices for retirees. Lots to absorb, yet intimidating and challenging. Moving forward, convenience and challenging health issues, plus fixed income issues is a top priority for most retirees. One need to make smart choices affecting retirement plans, which is confusing to most elderly folks. In addition to Tri-care for Veteran retirees, there is a VA clinic in Manila, Philippines and most states here in the USA. The Veterans can go there for additional health care. So, that’s an added benefit for former Military servicemen and women. Just reach out to the VA and they can assist with referring to additional benefits available. Yes, not everybody gives you the answer you want; however, ‘there is no stupid question…’according to my college professors. Take care and wishing you a healthy holiday season! Enjoy your family anywhere you are GPa! God Bless you more! ❤🎄
My Medicare advantage plan reimburses emergency medical internationally and pays for my drugs. The savings is hugh. So far your the only vlogger who recognized this. Thanks for sharing.
I too is covered by Humana Advantage Plan and before I signed up, had it confirmed with the agent, as well as can be found in the booklet. You have accurately related the coverage about the Humana Advantage Plan. This video is very helpful and informative. Well done!
Thanks for this important issue Sir. Just like you, I’ve been here in the US for 49 years and retired from the Federal sector four years ago. I retired with my Health insurance that I had when I was still employed. However my yearly premiums have been rising over the years. So I recently enrolled in Medicare Part B in order to continue with a medical advantage plan. Thankfully, my old Aetna PPO plan can now be automatically shifted into an advantage plan. Since my retirement I also lived half the time here in the US and half time in Baguio City. I guess we have to do our best to stay healthy especially when residing back home. I just subscribed to your channel; I find some of your contents very informative especially for us US retirees. God bless!
Just FYI my husband is receiving ssdi and he stayed in the Philippines for almost 10 yrs. Since he’s not covered on medicare living outside the usa we decided to cancel his medicare after 3 yrs. We then decided to move back to the usa and he has to re-enroll for his medicare, now he’s being penalized for the last 7 yrs that he wasn’t enrolled with his medicare and was told that the penalty will be for life as long as he is covered by medicare. His penalty is $100+
@@rollingriver5046 Who advised you to cancel your Medicare? That was not a wise move. Of course you will be penalized! You should have checked on that prior to cancelling. Lesson learned!
Thank you sir grandpa..we have a lot authorities or govt employees in manila naia airport that doing money making to implement the right travel protocol..
Good day Awesome Vlogger, I used GEHA (United Health Care) Government Employees Health Insurance Association...still on Permanent Residency here! Maybe one day, your vlog is the most helpful medic info! God bless😘

Once again you’re knocked it out of the park very interesting video grandpa. I’ve been dying to get over to the Philippines to meet my fiancé and what you had to say was very informative and you’re completely correct because I have Medicare advantage through United healthcare and that was one of the selling points is that wherever I travel i’m covered. Just wanted to add something that you might want to know about is it there’s plenty of fax services that don’t require having a fax modem on your computer I use the fax but there’s literally dozens of them even applications in the phone that our smart phones so that you don’t have to have a phone line in order to send faxes any more thought you’d find this useful.
Thank you for this great info about our health insurance. I have to check with blue shield if I will be covered when I go to Philippines. Once again thank you. You're doing great with your vlogs and God bless
I plan to move to the Philippines and never return to the US. So I do not want anything to do with Medicare or the US medical system where Doctors have been trained by medical universities funded by drug companies to sell more drugs.
Thank you for the information I am delighted and learned which plan i should apply. Luckily, I applied for Advantage plan from Blue shield. Planning to retire in the Philippines and back at least 6 months interval or even short in the US.
Very helpful information. Health insurance is complicated and varies widely from state to state. In Michigan I'm paying $315/mo. for BCBS advantage plan. I like your Vlog very much. I'm hoping to move to the Philippines when it's open again.
Thank you, I'm 61 and learning about my path forward. And looking to retire in the Philippines. This information you presented is the best I've come across so far.
You are on point. That's the reason I took the Advantage Plan .... I have United Healthcare. I wish I don't have to use it but good to have one if needed, since I do plan to spend more time in my next visits.
I opted for Kaiser Permanente for my M4A plan/HMO. They confirmed exactly what you said. That they will reimburse me later and to document everything. And if follow-up care is necessary, most likely that would be out of pocket.
If you are retired military TRICARE for Life will cover you overseas, you still have to keep your Medicare Part B. There is a deductible and they will cover 80% of your bill. You will have to pay in advance and file a claim. This includes routine visits.
Thank you Stephen, very very informative as well. I asked my husband about our insurance if we go to the Philippines but he dont know the answer😂he is a retired military 30 yrs in the service. He has a medical condition and were planning to stay in The Philippines for 6 months but hesitant because of his condition. Now I feel a sigh of relief. God bless!
Hi Grandpa. I am an insurance broker in Hawaii. I am glad you are making people aware of the emergency worldwide coverage with Medicare. There are a few points that people need to know. Like you say, it must be for emergencies only. Also, emergency care must begin during the first 60 days of each trip outside the USA. The deductible is $250 each calendar year. The maximum lifetime benefit is $50,000. So, in other words, in an emergency, you would pay $250 for the deductible, 20% of the bill up to $50,000, and 100% of the bill over $50,000.
I have Humana Gold Plus but they are not necessarily available where you live. Google "Advantage Plans" to get a list of insurance companies in your area. Advantage Plan is location-specific.
Advantage plan is great here in the US. $44 a month with Florida blue Cross + $144 taken out of Medicare, which is MEDICARE ABD. It is good for overseas.
Thanks Grandpa Vlogger I am a pensioner and planning to go back to the Philippines maybe for a period of time which I still can’t say up to when. I have to ask my medicare advantage insurance which is UHC if I will be covered while in the Philippines if not then I would rather stop the deduction but will let you know what will be their say on the matter..God bless you always and thanks for all the updates you are sharing 👍👍🙏🙏
You have to check your policy because each policy is different. It might help if you watch my other video regarding this matter. th-cam.com/video/iF_oA8P_hW0/w-d-xo.html
You have to shop around for these MA plans. Some have limits on worldwide emergency coverage while others even pay for airline travel back to the US to a network hospital for more care. It depends on what premiums you pay.
There is one for that, but there is an extra premium a year of $150 at least my BCBS sapphire in Massachusetts and will pay anywhere in the world and US.So check your zip code what is available where you reside
I know a guy(70yrs old) who has multiple visa (tourist only) that should undergone operation in the PH for 2.5 millions pesos (hospital estimate), but went to US as tourist and call 911 then was operated and now he's back in the PH without spending a fortune in his US operation...
Someone asked about PhilHealth. I am an American. For foreigners not married to a Filipina, you pay 17,000 Pesos a year but you can not avail yourself of the Z benefits. That is exclusively for Filipinos.
If you plan to stay in the PI and you’re a foreigner just make sure you have at least 500k in pesos in the bank for emergency use like medical expenses
Thats too small for 500k , you should have at least have a million pesos reserved for your health problems as your emergency cash. If you have lots of prescription drugs as your health maintenance then you better off living in the USA because you will have a long life in the USA. There are so many foreigners lived in the Philippines during their early retirement age and when sickness came as they aged unexpectedly they decided to leave the Philippines and sold their farm in the province and went back to where they came from. Sad to know na tapos na ang mahabang panahon at maliligayang buhay and owning a huge property then they went back to where they came from! At panibagong buhay! Thats why hindi lahat na material things sa mundo ay para sa iyo habang buhay dahil lahat ay may katapusan!
During January and March, you can apply for Plan B if you take it later than your original retirement date using a letter to Social Security. No medical but you will pay an increased premium. I tried to tell you this on a previous video.
I am glad that you clear up some of my questions. I called my carrier before United Healthcare told me that they only pay for emergency.. Thank you was helpful...
My Advantage plan is a PPO through AFL-CIO and Anthem. Payments for it range between $0 and $8 per month, it varies each month, avg $3. Need to research int'l coverage, am a US resident. Of course have Medicare B.
Can you cover TriCare healthcare. A lot of people seem to have misconceptions regarding TriCare including myself. I’m a California born Filipino and a DAV(100% disabled American Veteran) but the VA system in Philippines is not the same as US VA(from what I understand), not sure why. Maybe you could shed some light on this issue. Thank you
I worked here in the USA since year 2014 at the age of 60years old. My husband has no work since we arrived here in the USA bcuz he met car, motorcycle accident. We’re both Medical and Medicaid plan-A. I have a minimum yearly income of $12,000 and maximum yearly income of $21,000. How much amount from the SSS as retirement benefits when I retire at the age of 70years old?
It’s so commercialized now mostly in the U. S providers they give more meds. Which has more side effects and very few good and really care doctors and if you’re retired military there’s no prob.
In addition, once you got penalty, stay forever. So don’ t forget to apply once you become 65yo because it’s mandatory. But if it still working with valid group health insurance you can decline the part b. More infos still....
Thanks for the detail explanation.. How about the "Pacific Cross" insurance in Phillipine ? I'm checking them out and it seems to be pretty good. I think the annual premium is about $3,000 and coverage seems very good.
I am grateful that I found your video. We are in the process of retiring and planning to go back to the Philippines six months from now. You have provided detailed information on the Advantage supplemental Medicare plan. I have Medicare B and Tricare for Life. Should I cancel paying the premium Medicare B premium if I decide to stay in the Philippines permanently? Will I be still covered under Tricare for Life? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Blessings and thank you.
@@thasarg4288a military retiree must have medicare part a and b to keep tricare for life. If you don't do this when you turn 65 you loose tricare for life even if you move to PI. Just do to tricare website.
You need to sign up Medicare plan B when you reach 65, ( you get permanent penalty for not signing up at 65),sign up Medicare Part B ($148.50) as original Medicare. Buy a Medicare Supplemental plan N ($118.24)/ month which covers medical expenses outside the US. Also, buy Medicare Plan D for Rx medication. Medicare does not cover dental insurance or vision (eyeglasses).
Thank you for discussing Advantage Plan and it’s benefit. Can you also discuss if Original Medicare ( opted to get original Medicare instead of getting Advantage Plan from private insurance companies) have the same benefit as that of the Advantage Plan while in the Philippines.
Under Original Medicare, you are automatically covered for Plan A (hospital charges), but you will need Part B (doctor's fees) as an option. Part A is FREE and you pay about $150/mo for Part B. After you have that, it only covers you for 80%. Who wants and can afford to absorb the remaining 20%. That is why ALMOST EVERYBODY gets a Supplemental Plan or Advantage Plan. Also, Original Medicare will only cover you while in the US. Supplemental Plan and Advantage Plan is covered in one of my vlogs. Here's the link to my channel. th-cam.com/channels/YU70S4jYvhw0BOetMFdD6A.htmlvideos
@@vloggergrandpa2707 Sir, part B of Medicare has now gone up to $ 172.00 since our Social Security raise. Where do you get that Part B is only $ 150.00?
There is an enrollment period for Medicare Part B from January to March each year with no physical. You submit a request; however, you will be paying a little more depending on a formula!
@MARLON DELAVEGA As soon as you become eligible for medicare, you will receive a letter. That is where you indicate whether or not you wish to enroll in Part B medicare. Meanwhile, you can inquire for outside coverage be it Advantage Plan or Supplemental Plan because your basic hospital (Part A) and doctor fee (Part B if you decide to enroll) coverage is only 80%. You will need more protection than what government is giving you.
Whether Advantage or Supplemental there is 80% worldwide coverage for "emergency" only. In the states Advantage plan coverage is limited within your county.... However it does cover up to 80% of emergency only in other counties or states. BUT NOT ALL Insurance Co have this type COVERAGE.
Except that Supplemental will only cover you for *_60 or 90 days_* from the date you arrive at the country. Advantage will cover you as long as you are a citizen or permanent resident of the US.
Hello there Granpa, I'm a Us Army Veteran and the only Insurance I have is the Va. My question is I will be living in Dumaguete City, I will have no problem traveling to Manila for regular check up or for any Medications but what kind of Insurance woulsd you recomment for me. And yes I will be traveling back to USA once a year and I do have a duel Citizenship.
@Sonny Tolentino. That is covered in one of my vlogs. Grandpa in short which plan do I need to apply. My purpose is to settle for good in the Philippines. I am US citizen, I may come or visit US for short of time least maybe 2 weeks and rest stay back home. What kind of insurance or network shall I apply which i can use healthcare in the Philippines if any. I am 65 this coming June. Thank you!
Be sure you understand how this insurance work. There is a link below the video. Click on it and watch it first. Sorry, but "In short" will not work in evaluating insurance companies. 😉
Maybe this help, just a suggestion - if you are planning to come back here in US keep your medicare and find a plan that will fit on your needs, there’s a plan that they give back some of your part b (depends on where you live) and also with worldwide coverage. At least when you come here in US you can still go to your doctor and do annual check up and get your prescription that you can still bring with you when you go back to PI.
SPECIALIST Dr's Visits at St. Luke's Global City only costs $50 USD retail price, out of pocket. That's very cheap. Labs and xrays are also very cheap. So.... It doesn't matter if the Medicare Advantage doesn't cover basic medical services. SUPER CHEAP OUT OF POCKET. MEDICARE ADVANTAGE WILL COVER you for all the big stuff. ;)
What about Philhealth for expats. I’ve been told I can get it when I move there. I’d like your opinion and comparison to advantage plus. I appreciate you. Thank you, Gene from Oklahoma.
I wouldn't rely too much on PhilHealth unless you're happy going to a public hospital/clinic. I understand it's almost like a discount card. Never compare it with medical card we have in the U.S.
Well if you do back and forth to PI and US you need a medicare and let’s say when you are in PI which is God forbid you went to emergency you will spent a lot of money but since you have a medicare advantage with worldwide coverage you can reimburse what you spent there, depends on your policy. So always check what you have and shop around which company has better a offer ... hope this info help.

There is one for that, but there is an extra premium a year of $150 at least my BCBS sapphire in Massachusetts and will pay anywhere in the world and US.So check your zip code what is available where you reside
Salamat Opa ang damit Kung natutunan sayu👍👍😘😍
I know a guy(70yrs old) who has multiple visa (tourist only) that should undergone operation in the PH for 2.5 millions pesos (hospital estimate), but went to US as tourist and call 911 then was operated and now he's back in the PH without spending a fortune in his US operation...
Some Medicare Advantage plans include up to six months/$100,000 per year of worldwide emergency and urgent care coverage.
Someone asked about PhilHealth. I am an American. For foreigners not married to a Filipina, you pay 17,000 Pesos a year but you can not avail yourself of the Z benefits. That is exclusively for Filipinos.
Great informtion
Thank you, very good video.
During January and March, you can apply for Plan B if you take it later than your original retirement date using a letter to Social Security. No medical but you will pay an increased premium. I tried to tell you this on a previous video.
I'm looking to stay there in the philippine Islands for the rest of my life, pray I never come back to the u.s.a. if all goes well
I am glad that you clear up some of my questions. I called my carrier before United Healthcare told me that they only pay for emergency.. Thank you was helpful...
We’ll be moving to Cebu in March i would like to hear about medical insurance in the ph
Thank you Sir
We have phil health and universal health that all pilipinos can use
My Advantage plan is a PPO through AFL-CIO and Anthem. Payments for it range between $0 and $8 per month, it varies each month, avg $3. Need to research int'l coverage, am a US resident. Of course have Medicare B.
Thankyou God bless you
I believe you Sir, I know it when my husband retired last year. Some people doesn't care enough to ask seguro. God bless.
Sir; Thank to you I have my advantage plant. With 0 payment
Thank you
I don't know much about TriCare. Let me see what I can find out about it.
We're using tri care in PI
Tricare overseas---1-877-678-1208
Thanks for the info.
60,000 pesos is around 1100.00 dollars
I worked here in the USA since year 2014 at the age of 60years old. My husband has no work since we arrived here in the USA bcuz he met car, motorcycle accident. We’re both Medical and Medicaid plan-A. I have a minimum yearly income of $12,000 and maximum yearly income of $21,000. How much amount from the SSS as retirement benefits when I retire at the age of 70years old?
Contact your local SS office. They can tell you.
It’s so commercialized now mostly in the U. S providers they give more meds. Which has more side effects and very few good and really care doctors and if you’re retired military there’s no prob.
Hi,
I'm pretty sure that , Humana will cover you in the Philippines.
Humana has many plans. Some will cover you overseas while others will not. Be sure to know your policy!
Also please take note of the Medicare Plan B penalty which is 10% of the monthly premium and goes up the longer you delay enrollment.
In addition, once you got penalty, stay forever. So don’ t forget to apply once you become 65yo because it’s mandatory. But if it still working with valid group health insurance you can decline the part b. More infos still....
Great. Thanks
Thanks for the detail explanation.. How about the "Pacific Cross" insurance in Phillipine ? I'm checking them out and it seems to be pretty good. I think the annual premium is about $3,000 and coverage seems very good.
I don't know. I'm not familiar about that company. Maybe I'll look into it when I get to the Philippines.
Check the pre existing conditions
I am grateful that I found your video. We are in the process of retiring and planning to go back to the Philippines six months from now. You have provided detailed information on the Advantage supplemental Medicare plan. I have Medicare B and Tricare for Life. Should I cancel paying the premium Medicare B premium if I decide to stay in the Philippines permanently? Will I be still covered under Tricare for Life? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Blessings and thank you.
Get insurance in Philippines. I will join the Phil Nat'l Health Ins.
If you cancel B, you will lose Tricare.
I'm in same boat I understand tricare providers are available I'm arriving to PI in Sep to retire there? Should I cancel part B???
@@tomgolab3958 18:00 are u sure???? Who says???? So this guy lies????
@@thasarg4288a military retiree must have medicare part a and b to keep tricare for life. If you don't do this when you turn 65 you loose tricare for life even if you move to PI. Just do to tricare website.
So glad I didn’t join the military. My job gave me BCBS PPO free for life. No worries or Medicare for me in PH. I’m covered
What’s that ?
Smart video. Thanks
Thank you for this info Grandpa.
Can you also discuss if Original Medicare ( opted to get original Medicare instead of getting Advantage Plan from private insurance companies) have the same benefit as that of the Advantage Plan while in the
Philippines.
If I’ll be turning 65 this coming July, can I avail MCR Part B right away or have to wait for the enrollment period? Thank you.
@@vloggergrandpa2707 Thank you for the response. It’s indeed highly appreciated.
Thank you
Go Info, Do you have any recommendations for early retirement? Thanks
In the philippines if you need to go to hospital or doctors clinic or you need blood test your free for senior 0
That’s not true , my mother is senior (94 year old) she need to pay
Medical Center I know there is a US Medical Facilities in Manila and I already knew that I could go there for any Medical reason.
Here's the link to my channel. th-cam.com/channels/YU70S4jYvhw0BOetMFdD6A.htmlvideos
Also, be sure that the medical facility by VA is okay for you. If it is, that may be adequate although I don't know if it is excellent choice because I'm not familiar with VA.
@@vloggergrandpa2707 Yes, I can transfer my Va. Medical anywhere as long it's a US Va. Facilities. Thank you...
pwede po ba ako mag apply for my mom ng advantage plan ?dual citizen po sya and nasa Philippines po sya. i am here in the USA
Ingat kasi kailangan na naiintindihan mong lahat an provision ng Advantage Plan. Baka ka gumastos tapos ikaw ay hindi pala covered. Intindihin mong mabuti yung Advantage Plan. Here is a link: th-cam.com/video/iF_oA8P_hW0/w-d-xo.html
Spread this if r senior your covered
As a senior in the Philippines we get 20 percent off automatically,at least that was my experience when I end up in the ER
Its a discount card not insurance card
Well if you do back and forth to PI and US you need a medicare and let’s say when you are in PI which is God forbid you went to emergency you will spent a lot of money but since you have a medicare advantage with worldwide coverage you can reimburse what you spent there, depends on your policy. So always check what you have and shop around which company has better a offer ... hope this info help.
Hi,grandpa, have inquired from SSS you can in the Phillppines, as long as you want,,if your retired already, was it right???tnx
If you are now retired at the appropriate retirement age (ask SSS), you should be able to claim your SSS Benefits in the Philippines.
Thanks Granpa Vlogger
REMEMBER only in emergency cases ang medicare advantage.
I hope Advantage Plan is offered here in California.
I hope so, too, but one viewer said it is not available where he lives. However, each county is different and hope you there is one where you live.
