  • When the Brake won't release, I show how to retract the motors and what to check to repair or allow the car to be moved.
    The method requires a 12volt fused feed, which can be taken from the car battery, or like I used a power pack.
    Basically you are connecting a 12v battery across the two pins on the brake calliper.
    I used some stiff wires crimped to a couple of terminals, attached to a fused power pack, one direction releases the other applies the pressure.

    Thanks for posting this, dug me out of a hole - and reminded me that under all the electronics cars can still be fixed at home sometimes.

    I used this procedure to back out the EPB solenoid to change the rear pads. Thank you. REMEMBER TO MAKE SURE YOU RE-SEAT THE CONNECTOR ALL THE WAY. I did not. Got the Parking Brake maintenance message and was almost convinced that I needed a VIDA to calibrate after a pad replacement. Luckily, I checked the connector. Message went away. Pads changed. Parking brakes work. No VIDA or dealer expense required.

      hi robert , i changed my rear breaks and am getting the same message. both my motor seem to work . Should i verify if the connectors are properly seated.

      This is Robert. Concerning my success, check that your pads are holding the brake disk (aka acting like a parking brakes should). My local shop said that if the motors have to run too long and do not engage the pads to the disk, a fault may occur.

    I had a similar incident on my S80, twice. I had the good fortune that it released itself after a few attempts to gently move the car by putting it in gear. After that I never used the parking brake again, even though the dealer told me they fixed it. I'm not taking anymore chances. It took me about an hour to study the issue and to get it unstuck. So I today just park the car with the gear shifter in P and make sure that I'm not on an incline.
    Ok thnx for the video!

      @@Charlitos1988 Well, this was three years ago. Since then however, I have the brake serviced every year and use the parking brake at least once a week every week, that way the mechanism doesn't cease up. Still don't trust it though.

    You don't need diagnostics if the motor is sticking. Just replace it and the system recalibrates itself. Same as when you change the brake pads. Just put your foot on the brake and pull the handbrake switch a few times and you are good to go.

    Tips: use your phone to film each wheel, compare the sounds of the handbrake motor. For me the problem was dead right side brakemotor (or almost dead). Then i used 9v battery inside the brakemotor - no effect, then 12v, with veeeeeey little to almost no effect. I changed the right side caliper and brakemotor, and problem solved. I opend up the bad parts, and it was filled with salt, mud, rust etc.. inside the caliper cylinder there where parts that where loose to, so im glad i changed the whole thing.

    the rear caliper actuators can be removed from the calipers and the shaft rewound with a torx bit. it is a very simple procedure.

    got the P problem on my 2018 s90 and the dealer said both batteries needed to be replaced, small and large one, for 1000 dollars. They s aid the problem was caused by weak batteries. This just sounded like b.s. to me, and I expect after getting gouged that the problem will immediately start again. Does this sound like b.s. to anyone else?

    • @aaanton11
      @aaanton11  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds a bit strange, normally starting issues are more battery related, you can buy a tester yourself to be sure one like this will work fine, th-cam.com/video/aOXY1qenzno/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

    I've heard that disconnecting the battery without providing 12v power to the main scan connector (OBD 2) to maintain the computers can screw-up the operation of the engine until the engine computer "re-learns" your driving habits. Can also make the radio unoperapable until a passcode is re-inputted that only a volvo dealer can do.
