I wish the handbrake was on the left near the gearstick as I find I have to lean forward and look for it every time I want to use it so I tend not to use it. Cheers
The only thing I like about the electronic handbrake is the sound it makes. My friend had a problem with his a few months ago and I cost him a fortune to get it sorted. 👍🏿

Here’s a fun fact about the P3 models and later that have adaptive cruise control. In traffic it will come to a complete stop and start moving again by itself, and continue to hold a safe distance automatically. You just have to press the resume button on the steering wheel for it to start driving again by itself.
I recently found out that if the car is in reverse and you are not wearing a seat belt. When you get out of the car, the parking brake is applied automatically. this happened by chance one when i wanted to back up with a trailer with the door open for a better view. I just got off the chair too much. this was a 2014 V60 D6 plug-in hybrid.
Your videos are fantastic. Just trying to get accustomed to my new p3 Volvo XC60 and finding them so helpful. Thanks :) Personally, I think the handbrake placement and design is terrible. Handbrake lever for me all day long. It's a recipe for forgetting to put it on with the P3 setup. My other gripe with Volvo designers is the lack of a proper dipstick. I think IT geeks think technology is the answer to everything i.e oil level sensor!! Dipstick works, why change it for a sensor that might go wrong? It's just stupid. Other than that, so far, I love being in the Volvo club!

I have a strong feeling that it will apply maximum breaking strength with abs traction control etc, so in that respect is actually better than manual hand break as should use all wheels and the other breaking systems
Wonderful piece of technology ... except when yesterday, stranded several miles from home in miserable weather, and only two days of ownership it decided to stay locked on with a EPB service required warning. Costly recovery to get car back to dealers this morning Though I love the technology, that is just not right or safe.. imagine a family stranded somewhere because of parking brake :{
Happened to me... had to wait for the way help and be tolled to the nearby garage, the garage was not working on Friday evening and weekend of course, had to wait for the next week to sort it out...
I really don’t think it is a normal thing to use.It is more like if you forget to release the hand brake.If you are in a hurry and press the accelerator padal really quick,the car will struggle to release the brake calipers,but it can not do it as fast so in long term use of this feature it will cause damage to the rear axle,brake pads,etc

I used it many times as you described it and it was perfectly fine,but when in a hurry,the calipers do not respond as quick into disengaging and it seems to me that i am putting useless pressure onto the gearbox and mounts. P.S. I have read into volvo web site some while ago,that if you engage the EPB while driving ,the car will brake with all four wheels,so that the rear end won’t slide. www.volvocars.com/en-th/support/manuals/s60/2017w17/starting-and-driving/brakes/parking-brake
One thing I did find out today was that if you apply the EPB while driving, it applies braking to all four wheels, as an emergency brake. Once the car is down to crawl speed it reverts to rear only to finally stop the car. Can anyone confirm this ?
Definitely does not apply the front brakes in a 2012 V70 mate. I’ve switched the handbrake while still moving slowly and it just locks the rear wheels in a violent manor.
I have never parked with the handbrake on, in an automatic. Park only. Different makes, including Volvos, over many years and hundreds of thousands of miles. Never had a problem.
Here in Australia is seems to be very common in automatics to apply hand brakes. And it’s not like it hurts to do it, and makes it easier to take out of park in some cars I have found.
I have a V60 and love it! Almost all your tips and tricks work as well on mine!

I have this, but with a manual gearbox, weirdly. It doesn't work below 20mph or so with the manual sadly

The handbrake trick works just as well in a Volvo FH12 HGV as it does in a late V70 car....

On my manual XC60 the revs need to be raised a little over idle for the electronic parking brake to release 👍
Same on my s80 2008 awd

Could be so if on a hill won’t roll back whilst torque converter is getting up and running

It's in the owners manual which states that is the correct way and doing it manually is for different circumstances:)

on my xc70 2013 p3 does not work this trick i have to manualy release the brake
also you need to straiten your rear number plate..... ocd !

@@Alexander_l322 it does use the front brakes too if you go a little faster. It is to prevent the back from sliding out of control
