Five potential benefits of Barley Rice
Barley water is made from barley, which is believed to be one of the oldest grains in the world. Although it is not a staple food of most diets, there is growing evidence that barley and barley-based foods have a variety of health benefits.
The health benefits of barley water include:
1. Fiber boost
Many of barley’s health benefits come from it being an excellent source of dietary fibre. Fiber is essential for keeping the digestive system healthy, contributing to healthy bowel movements, and helping people avoid problems such as constipation.
Barley is a soluble fibre, meaning it can dissolve in water and provides the body with useful energy. Fiber can also be insoluble, meaning it passes through the digestive tract without breaking down and does not provide the body with energy.
2. Lowers cholesterol
A 2010 analysis of clinical trials Trusted Source found that barley may reduce the level of LDL or “bad” cholesterol in the blood.
3. Helps balance gut bacteria
The balance of natural gut bacteria plays an essential role in keeping a person healthy. Studies have shown that consuming barley-based foods leads to a reduction of a gut bacteria called Bacteroides.

Barley-based foods have been shown to help boost the number of beneficial bacteria prevotella in the gut. These bacteria have been shown to help lower blood sugar levels for up to 11-14 hours.
5. Encourages weight loss
Barley prompts the body to release hormones that regulate appetite by making the person feel fuller for longer. These hormones may also boost the metabolism, which can contribute to weight loss.

Barley’s high fibre content may also help prevent gallstones. Gallstones are solid particles that can form spontaneously in your gallbladder, a small organ located under the liver. The gallbladder produces bile acids which your body uses to digest fat.
In most cases, gallstones don’t cause any symptoms. However, from time to time, large gallstones can get stuck in a duct of your gallbladder, causing intense pain. Such cases often require surgery to remove the gallbladder.
May Reduce Heart Disease Risk
Whole grains are consistently linked to better heart health. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that regularly adding barley to your diet may lower your risk of heart disease.
In fact, a recent review of randomized control studies observed that an average intake of 8.7 grams of soluble fibre per day may be linked to a modest 0.3-1.6 mmHg reduction in blood pressure.
High blood pressure and high LDL cholesterol are two known risk factors for heart disease. Thus, reducing them may protect your heart.

I am eating barley cooked as rice with sambar and curry. Am a acute diabetic patient. அடிக்கடி பசி எடுப்பது குறைந்து விட்டது. கால் எரிச்சல் குறைந்துள்ளது. ஆனால் செம்ம gas form ஆகுது. வயறு உப்பி உள்ளது becz of gas. Thank you Dr. Good infmn 🙏🙏🙏
