  • Without a Hairdryer I couldnt get the glue of the earpiece speaker...
    Remember the BOSE QC25s that let me down on a flight? I purchased a speaker for the QC25s and got around the glue problem with a hairdryer ... another bit of Dubious Engineering!!
    Changing the channel slightly - please be patient ...
    (None of the work on this channel is of real engineering standards - that said, the headphones actually sounded as they did before they broke - I'm actually a happy puppy!)

    A slightly more relaxing and less factually correct piece of Dubious Engineering! ... Tim Rickard recently asked for an update on the RetroPie - I'm working on it for you... 😬 - an update to Pi3 and new software.... watch this space! :-)

    Hi Howard, great Vid. Ordered a driver replacement and had my 4 yo QC25 right ear back alive and no noticeable difference between L and R. Just now waiting for the Copydex to come to me so I can finalize the repair. I have 3 questions: 1. about the wiring, I see in the Vid the wrong wiring (red and copper) makes the squeaky noise which does not do that on my replacement. Maybe I was just lucky as I just copied the original wiring but it seems the + on the replacement driver is now on copper color wire now....strange, thought the red was always the +...anyway... 2nd question is about the glue: they say on other videos we should glue the driver all around the driver except the little opening where the coil wire driver runs thought he PCB of the driver but the cover cup needs to be fully covered by glue otherwise the ANC is less effective...did you take notice of this on your replacement? 3. on the other video you say you should wait the glue to settle (on both driver and cup) to use it back on. Is there a reason linked to insulation Vs glue settle time??? Thanks in advance for your answer. Love your channel! Damien

      1) Just lucky! - 2) I just glued the whole damn thing in! - 3) The speaker will fall out if the glue hasn't cured... not good!
      Best of luck my friend!!

    Can we use bostik blue tack in lieu of the glue? I’m about to do it.

    Any chance you did a post-mortem on the dead driver to see what the cause? Ive seen some reports that putting a shim will cause it to start working again and im wondering if it is a loose wire within the driver or something. Ive definitely wanted to have some qc25s or a qc35 but these constant designed-to-fail on a premium item is very concerning.

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I’ve seen the shim solution. I believe the wire breaks inside the speaker... but I haven’t pulled it apart to see, the wires are super thin...

    • @spilk1
      @spilk1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah, i imagine it would be difficult if you didnt have an electronics microscope to make the job much easier. I havent found anyone else who has already done the fix that bothered to look into the issue more concretely so there is a lot of speculation out there

      OK, so I managed to get my QC25s patched up, the right speaker is a little weaker than the untouched left, but they are working at 95%, which is good enough for me. Referred to this video throughout the process, many thanks for putting it up :)@@DubiousEngineering

    Trying to find this out everywhere but can't get any information on it. After removing the ear pad and felt insert, like you did, what the heck is that large white corrugated stiff ribbon like structure that is partially covering the driver. Why is it there? I've never seen any other headphone bock their drivers like that. I thought maybe it was there to deflect the midrange and the highs so that they wouldn't sound so sharp by going directly into the ear but honestly, this is just a guess. Do you know what it's there for?

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Crikey I made this video so long ago I forgot it even existed :-). I’m sure there will be a little acoustic damping and vibration elimination to help with sharp reflective corners of enclosures

      @@DubiousEngineering - They have something similar on the BOSE 700s as well but it's an aluminum plate with an elevate half-pipe canal that runs down the center. I wouldn't dare try removing them from my QC35s, but I really wonder what they would sound like if they weren't in there. Thanks for the comeback to my question.
