    It’s mostly because John Wayne died. That dropped the general T level precipitously, plus there are no more new movies starring The Duke, himself. Arnold, Stallone, Willis and Statham tried to hold the T level in place, but failed, although there was a brief surge, when Predator came out.

    Dr. Travison did not say that obesity, sedentary lifestyles, processed foods etc were not decreasing testosterone levels, rather he stated that they were not solely responsible for the decrease in testosterone levels. Approximately 40% of the decline in testosterone levels was still unfounded after controlling for those variables.

    I have thought of the nature vs. nurture element of T levels. Think of the domestic pig, that breaks out and grows tusks as soon as it is in the wild. If you have two twin brothers, and one works around a bunch of chain-smoking welders all day, and the other works in sales, would one have higher T than the other? It's almost like you have to physically adapt to survive around the welders. Who knows? It would be interesting if there was some way to study that empirically.

      @@ScottyGMusic I've done a lot of welding and monitoring my blood work. Worked with crews of burly men and then also worked for years with crews of women doing office work. It makes an immeasurable difference. What makes you think otherwise? Welding exposes you to chemicals and heavy metals that could easily lower your testosterone.

    • @ScottyGMusic
      @ScottyGMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mr.monitor. Thanks for the answer from your experience. I had thought of the flux chemicals after your reply. And it goes without saying that smoking is bad for you. My experience was only playing music in high school, and I got into the farm industry in my late twenties. I have no way of comparing the two environments and their effect on T; I only decided to get my T checked last year. It was decently high for 39 y/o. I think it possibly went up, based on physical appearance. Everyone who actually lasts in the farm business, seems to be pretty burly, so I had been curious if that's causation or correlation.

    Modern vegetable oils have to be the main culprit b/c we've been directly ingesting them in ever larger amounts since roughly the 70's where this trend started.. No doubt there are other factors, and soy has been mentioned several times, but really any vegetable "oil" from plants that won't otherwise produce it by cold pressing really f*ck with not only hormones but metabolism in general. ETA: Someone else mentioned this, but Vitamin D is turning out to correlate also. Guess what also messes with those levels? That's right, PUFA from veggie oils..

    Testosterone no longer correlates highly with reproductivity since impregnation by force is less common and because a Father's ability to provide maximal opportunity for a small number of children is not strongly related to his testosterone levels. Simply stated, lower T males now have an increased competitiveness to produce reproductively competitive children.
