I respect Christopher for saying that one of the reasons he's doing Big Finish is that it's paying work. Wanting to support yourself and/or your family is a good reason to be doing this.
It is a good answer but obviously there is a bit more to it. BF was willing to pay him since they got the new series license. He had to want to do it and to his satisfaction. It's not like he would just take the money and not care about the scripts. Not that BF would not care but it's nice to know that he cares as much as they do.
@@Ben-vf5gk Yeah, he said it’s been a joy playing the 9th Doctor for Big Finish because the scripts are good. Which suggests he didn’t think as much of the scripts he did on the screen (on average). And I’d agree. Some of his TV scripts, such as “Dalek”, were very good. But I think the average Big Finish box-set script far exceeds the average TV show script, so I think it makes sense that this would be part of his enthusiasm for returning to the role. Hats off to him for his honesty!

I love how he constantly praises The Writers and everyone who has taken part in creating these Audios. Chris seems like such a nice and humble guy. We love you Chris :)
"My doctor is happy to meet anybody." What a lovely encapsulation of the character, which holds so much weight given what the doctor endured to regenerate into the 9th, war and all. The idea of someone who recognizes how broken they are, but is finally and happily able to now hold onto hope because the universe is quite large, and and there's a lot of potential new friends. And that's why I like Chris' statement of Rose being the only full time companion for his doctor. Other people traveling from time to time is great, but labeling them as the 9th doctor's friends as opposed to his companions I think is a kinda beautiful way to encapsulate the energy held by the character in relation to the people he meets. People call Eccleston's doctor the stern doctor, but honestly I think I would call him the friendly doctor. He's the doctor you'd want if you needed cheering up after a hard day, because he'll take you on an adventure just to show you how beautiful life can be.
