I worked on one of those last year for a coworker. First time working on basically an all plastic carburetor. I took it all off and found a small dried plug of old fuel. Probably from the ethanol. Man, are they cheaply made or what!

"Probably from the ethanol"... Ever seen what happens if you put gin in a glass? Gin is made of 40% ethanol and 59.99%water, the remaining .01% being aromatic compounds to give taste. Ethanol does not leave residues.

Thanks! This is what was wrong with moms new mower. Luckily I had both carb cleaner and penetration oil. Glad I subbed to you.

Thanks for the advice. Mine wouldn’t start at all and it was just a year old. So I did what you said and took the bowl off but instead of using carb cleaner I used air and blew in the jets. Started right up after that. After it started I put a small amount of sea foam in the gas and let it run for awhile. Guess I will see what happens.

Thanks for your informative video. Now let's see, how much cheaper can Briggs and Stratton make their engines? Let us see, we could do away with the oil drain plug so that you have to drain the oil out of the top and Oh yea let's make the carburetors out of plastic. Now let's see if there is anything else we can do to make them cheaper?

How about plastic cams? Yes, they actually have them. I’ve had issues with those a couple of times....... The only part thats steel is the shaft itself.

@@notajp You are correct. I forgot about that.

On a mower, I have no problem with no oil drain plug. As long as the oil filler tube sticks out a fair ways, it's fine to drain right out of there by tipping the mower. Honda mower engines are like that, and they can do no wrong in my book.

@@ToobulaThats fine if you like it that way. For me Besides it being awkward trying to hold the mower upside down to get the oil out you also have the gas coming out of the gas cap which is a bad thing.

Hey mower dude, you shouldn't put penetrating oils or drying sprays like WD-40 on O-rings. They dry them out. You always want to use silicone grease for that. Good use for Astroglide, too! (sorry)

Cleaning the carb without pulling the carb they call a" quick and dirty " . I serviced a classic today , had to dump the tank put in fresh fuel and now it runs like new .

Need some help. I have a Steele lawn mower I bought from Sears. New. Since I bought it it ran Beautifully for 2 years? Last year I changed Recoil starter, Coil, Gas line from gas tank to new carb, Carb, Spark plugs. I found this spring the Primer button had disintegrated. Tried several place to buy a new one. I had got parts directly from MTD. A nice Sales Lady my age at Menards helped me find a new one. Now the Lawn mower is hard to start even with new primer button. Well the parts & 6 hours today I got mower running, BUT? It only runs full throttle all the time. I checked the linkage. The springs were holding throttle wide open. So I am trying to find a picture or some source to see where the throttle linkage & the Governor? are supposed to be correctly. I don't know what kind of engine it is. Briggs & Stratton & MTD parts fit. It looks like the MTD you showed had no valve keepers. I have been buying 100% gas now for my Truck & my Lawn Mower & Snow Blower. Saves the dissolving of rubber that I was told not made in Japan or China for USA gas with 10% to 20% Any Help would be appreciated.
