I just watched this new series of Squid Game(In original language) on Netflix and honestly it surprised me, the acting, the tension, the character's development - it is perfect. A banger.
I've been recording the episodes the past few days and I'm a little more than halfway through and loving it so far!
Same here, I saw it in Netflix’s top ten and decided to watch it without watching the trailer or anything. My mouth literally dropped the first game because I was like wtf 😳 I did not expect that at all. Such a good show ! Finished it in a day 😂
Excellent choice. Never EVER watch shows with dubs. They ruin the original feel of the production. It doesn't take 5000 IQ galaxy brains to read subtitles and I still don't understand why people refuse to watch stuff in foreign languages because of subs. That being said, Korean stuff has been absolute fire lately and I am glad people are catching on.

At 2:38 when Saebyeok lowers her head, she's actually holding in her laughter because Lee Jung Jae putting the straw back in her cup was adlib 😂. You can see her shoulders shaking from laughing.

i like how you mentioned how stylized it is ! while i was watching it i rlly loved the focus on childlike things (bright colors, childhood games) in contrast to the super dark and brutal story :)
YES! That is my favorite aspect of the show, it has such a strong concept and brilliant set design, and like you said in contrast to the dark themes revolving around the show, makes it that much better!
I noted while watching this is that the show is what would happen if Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and Saw had a baby.

Great reaction. A lot of people might disagree but Episode 2 is a masterpiece, it shows how society can be hell for a lot of people hence they need to find a way out even if risking their life.
Yes! I talk a bit more about it on episode 3 which I'm hoping to post tomorrow, but I loved that they showed the main character's lives and situations not through flashbacks, but instead through them going back home only to want to go back into the game

Yeah some people say Ep 2 is boring and slow but I think it gives a lot of important background info on each character.
Also SPOILERS for the last episode:
Episode 2 also foreshadows what happens to the main characters. Sae Byeok threatens the con man with a knife to his neck - she dies by getting her neck sliced. Sang Woo tries to commit suicide - he commits suicide instead of leaving. Ali takes the money and runs - Ali gets his marbles taken away and Sang Woo leaves him. Gi Hun swears on his mother's life he will not chase after Sae Byeok but breaks his promise and tries to catch her - Gi Hun's mother dies while he's in the game.

Squid Game has elevated the Genre of "last man standing" to a continuous series, from the blockbuster hit of America's The Hunger Games to the movie that pioneered it all: Japan's Battle Royale
without all the unnecessary love scenes just to make the series last longer and many other unnecessary. The Koreans are in the story not the basic outline of American stories with percentages of love scenes, scenes of long discussions and which do not serve to advance the story.

I dont know what happened to the production I guess they changed their mind years later. Wait until you see the next games. They get more intense.
Right. I heard the series was filmed in 2009 and not released until Netflix bought it.

the director had a plan to make a film. but no company accepted it because the story was too weird. but now obviously the 2020 society was much more weird than 2008.
And to think we may have never gotten this amazing show

Now I know why the South Koreans has infiltrated the Elite Circle of the Academy Awards...A feat that Japan (Ran's Best Director Nomination for Akira Kurosawa) and Taiwan's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Best Picture Nominee) almost made it through but were bested in the end.

I was surprised that you point out rules not to do that is "OH my he let her pull the trigger towards him".
cause I didn't realize that is wrong until you said..
here in korea guns are absolutely not allowed to anybody...except police or solider or person who need to
so when we saw guns in korea... we know that is toy guns naturally NO doubt. 100% I'm sure.
even daughter pull the trigger without any thinking
so that is natural scene to korean. nothing unnatural..
but you might surprised oh he let her pull the trigger... I didn't realized that should be we think but we missed.
and but other scene that recruit guy hands up right away when he pull out the lighter gun..
that's different situation... because he is very used to guns and he is kind of staff of death game as you see.
and he might be threat from other guys somewhere else... so he react directly..
and you will see when you watch any korean drama or movie...

The best about K Drama reaction is just let the original voice speaking & let the subtitles do their jobs....if it's Dubbing,it will spoil the fun.
I'm a hardcore advocate for subtitles instead of Dubbing. I think dubs ruin the experience for sure

I hope people stop underestimating just how good korean filmmaking is after this show. In just over a week it's taken the whole world by storm. Everyone binge watches the whole show in one or two days because of how captivating it is. You cant bear to take a break from it because ever episode leaves you dying to know what happens next. It is so well done. This show quickly took the #1 spot of my favorite shows. Acting, excellent. Cinematography, amazing. Storytelling, unbelievable. It takes the death game concept and completely turns it on its head because everyone voluntarily participates. It adds another layer of "sometimes life is so awful people would actually risk their lives to obtain great wealth and comfort" rather than just "evil person traps people and makes them fight to the death for fun". And thats just the base layer of why this show is so interesting and works so well. I could honestly write a dissertation on this show.

Hey Ricky Great channel. Just curious this video is running ads, is the monetization for you or did the studio claim it? Just wondering as im a large TH-cam (check my channel) and I had an idea for another channel (not movies) but it would be a similar Picture in Picture to what you are doing (its video game related), and I was wondering if I could actually collect the monetized ad revenue or if these type of videos aren't possible for that.
It is very possible! Fair Use is a very real thing and allows me to make videos like this and monetize them, HOWEVER there are a lot of times I run into copyright issues where studios will make it so the ad revenue goes to them instead of me, or the video will just be blocked for everyone entirely. I try my best to only show small clips from each scene while also showing enough of what I'm commenting on for context, it's all about balance!
