I like how the shape grunts have some sort of ranking for example the circle people are the lowest rank they just clean up after the game is done the triangle guys are the ones that supervise the game and kill players who lose and the square guys are the 2 in command while the polygon guy is the head honcho so far
Circles are the cooks and cleaners the triangles are guards and squares are managers

The game is definitely intense for people who are familiar with the it. It's a Korean childhood game and it's really hard to win because the honeycombs are so brittle and crack easily. So Korean viewers understand the high stakes lol

@@Ayezil It’s actually really difficult because the candy is very brittle since it’s just sugar and baking soda melted together and hardened. When I was little I played this many times but always cracked the shape.

I believe the honeycomb game was inside a playground because that's usually where you would find the honeycomb candy. Similar to finding an ice cream truck at a park. And if you can remove the shape without cracking or breaking, you get another one for free.
Well I don't know if you want to actually know or not but the honeycombs in Korean are called 달고나 and you make it at home with a spoon or a dipper, you just melt sugar and let it brown and the "game" is something you do with your friends for fun if they brought a couple of candys so you are right it's just not like an ice cream truck

@@yoonyiachang1390 the ice cream truck analogy is perfect what do you mean. Ice cream trucks go to where kids are and attract those kids. the dalgonaman is usually in front of schools or by playgrounds selling them to kids. very similar

The candy is name "Dalgona." Street food sold to children at a local playground, candy made by mixing sugar and baking soda. There are several shapes marked, and it is a Korean game that gives one more dalgona candy for free if you separate it well with a needle to prevent it from breaking.
When I was little we couldn’t use needles. It was really hard .

When in my childhood, this Dalgona(Honeycomb) was usually sold by a man with very simple and handy cooking pot near playground where many kids are gathered.
If you can show cleanly separated part to the man , they are giving gift. The more difficult mark, the better gift.
However, as you guess, the man are making Dalgona very thin, dry and cracky not to lose money. haha

To make it easy to see how much korean currency worth in U.S. dollar, you just need to take out 3 zeroes from the number, for instance, 5,000 won would worth 5 bucks and what you can do/buy with 5,000won in Korea is about the same as what you can do/buy with $5 in the United States. Someone may have already told you this but I just left this comment in case no one has told you yet. Also, the girl who is taking care of her brother and looking for their mother is from North Korea. Koreans know it by the accent she speaks as she uses dialect of northern part of Korea, but as you are not familiar with Korean I thought that you wouldn't have caught it and knowing where she is from could help you understand the character better.

I tried Dalgona games so many times when I was a kid. However, I've never made it because of my temper. If I participated in the game, I would end in the second round for sure.

this used to be the candy you could buy in front of elementary schools in Korea! Super nostalgic. I just don't like the translations of these games -- honeycomb, really? the direct translation would be something along the lines of "sugar pick" because you "pick" out the shape.
Honeycomb is the name of that candy in English because the baking soda creates bubbles that make the inside look like a piece of honey comb. It's not very common anymore but I understood what the game must be about. My grandma used a big pot like the ones in the show to make a big batch around Christmas so it was pretty nostalgic for me too lol.
Yes their recipes are similar but the origin of culture and meaning is different. When translating korean cultures, we tend to name things based off western cultural objects which dilutes the original meaning. I think it’s better to use the direct translation and if there isn’t one, just learn to say the Korean word itself (just like how people have learned to say Phad Thai, sushi, hanbok, etc.)

Circle people are workers. Triangle people are shooters. And square people are the ones that are kinda of in charge.
Oh yeah so uh the shapes actually mean something. circle is worker because it has no edges. Triangle means soldier because it has 3 edges. Square is superior because it has 4 edges. The front man mask has so many edges. Thats why hes the frontman.

From what i know about honeycomb, the way it's made it has a very irregular interior structure. It's incredibly difficult to make a clean cut into the candy.
I would watch a backstory/prequel series about Player 212, for sure. LOL.
When I watched this episode, I thought to myself that I would choose the umbrella if I was in the game. I would have been f*cked!
The mask is not only to shield from the contestants but to the staff as well. Anonymity is an absolute rule to follow, so no one knows who the other is.
