Do you know how many people enjoy this type of recreation?? A lot. Comes to mind, when you want just to get away for a few days, enjoy the coolness of a morning along with some coffee and maybe a hunting buddy or dog or significant other, hone some skills after you enjoyed a breakfast of some game, it’s quite fulfilling. Beats sitting at home playing scrabble with friends. Get out and enjoy nature. It’s not always about filling your freezer!!

Snipe or woodcock. With woodcock especially I've quit breasting them and I cook the whole bird. I've been boiling them this year with salt onions beans and rice or potatoes. Bring to boil and simmer the rest of the hour.

I still find it baffling that almost 100 hundred years after it stopped being necessary, people are still wetting their toothbrushes before apply their dentifrice to them. The REASON for doing that was so that enough TOOTHPOWDER would adhere to the brush to do all of one's teeth. It is something handed down the generations that no longer has a purpose like, the woman who found out that the reason the family recipe for roasting turkey called for cutting off the turkey's tail before putting it into the oven, was that great-gramma's roasting pan was too short for the turkey to fit, otherwise.
This was a fun video, though; we seldom see how people handle morning ablutions at camp. We could use more of that. Along with some links to the dentifrice and the beard balm.

Cool video. Just so you’re aware, that is an American Woodcock, typically found in low woodlands or young aspen/popple stands. Snipe are a similar species, but not the same. They are a bit smaller, different color pattern, and are usually found in wet muddy grasslands or along the shore of water.

On a snipe hunt we would go way out into the woods (miles from anywhere), give the mark a bag and a stick, and tell him to wait for us to scare a snipe towards him. He is supposed to hit it with the stick and catch it in the bag. Of course we would leave him there to find his own way home....

EDIT: p.s. Thanks for not being one of those TH-camrs that moans and complains and whines and gripes about views and notifications and algorithms like we're too dumb to know all of that to begin with. I appreciate what you do, Brotherman.

i didn't know we had any snipe in ohio!! anyway Dave i ran across a video the other day on WW1 german rations and it had a folding utensil in it that might be of interest to you for the cook set line you've got, the video is from historical cooking adventures and is titled iron ration of the imperial german/prussian army of 1914-1918!

I'm not trying to be weird, but what's the point of this type of hunting? Is it just general recreation? It seems like you're just hunting to eat whatever during the day and it's not a serious food gathering operation like to freeze a deer for winter, or whatnot. Not much meat on these little animals, seems like.
