      You can be a great person and have bigoted beliefs- and even though he is a nice guy for sure, his beliefs ARE in fact bigoted.
      What people don’t realize is, you don’t have to be religious to disagree with gay marriage.
      A non-religious person could say, “I disagree with gay marriage because I believe it goes against nature.”
      If a non-religious person turned down a gay couple for personal reasons- would they get the same respect?
      My guess is no, they wouldn’t. Because it’s all too easy to hide behind the backdrop of religion.

    • @miragexl007
      @miragexl007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob Diaz interesting comment... So you disagree with the two getting the government involved in this little situation of the businessman making a decision... And then you probably disagree with them stepping in saying the baker was okay and not guilty.. The right to refuse which could have just been done and over with if those two didn't push the issue, get upset or mad or too sensitive. Kind of funny

    • @BobDiaz123
      @BobDiaz123 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      miragexl007 It's really very simple, Government is wrong to force a business to do something they don't want to do. When the court corrected that bad decision, it was a step in the right direction. There's no contradiction there. Libertarians believe in free choice for adults, it's the Democrats and Republicans that want to use the power of Government to force people to do things. As long a one person does NOT hurt another, they should be free to decide what they chose to do. I also support the right of people to make what I think are bad decisions, BUT if they are hurt, they are responsible for their own choices.

      jfsfrnd I can tell that you didn't watch the video, if you had you'd know the issue was NOT about providing a cake, but about how the cake was decorated. You also can't point to ANYTHING in the constitution that says anything about this case. The constitution is silent on the issue. Court cases decide the issue based on current laws. Future court cases will decide what is and what is not the right to Free Speech.

This message was against his values and believes and he rejected to do so. Media lied to public as usually. Why he would offer the cookies to someone who called him bigot? He is welcoming every person in his shop and will bake cookies and cake for everyone. But he will not place any message on the product that against his belief.

      Would you consider yourself to be a good person?
      How many lies have you told, and what do you call someone who lies? Have you ever stolen something, no matter how small, and what do you call someone who steals? Have you ever taken God's name in vain/blasphemed, even ‘OMG’? That’s taking the name of the God who gave you life and using it in the place of a cuss word - would you do that with your mother’s name? Have you ever dishonoured your parents? Jesus said whoever looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery in his heart. Have you ever looked with lust? Most people probably have broken all 5 of these commandments. I myself have. I’m not judging you but if you have done these things then you’re a lying, thieving, blasphemous, rebellious adulterer-at-heart by your own admission. That's only 5 of the 10 commandments. God is fully just so he must and will punish every and all sin (which is departure from/rebellion towards God and the conscience) when he judges us. He cannot simply cancel our debt and let us go, or else he would be unjust. If you went into the courtroom and said: ‘Yes Judge, I’ve done these things but I also give money to the Red Cross and volunteer at an old-age home. I try my best to love people’ the judge is not going to take that into consideration. You’ve broken the law; the good you’ve done won’t help at all on the day of judgement.
      If he judges you by the moral law will you be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? The answer is Hell. Doesn’t that concern you? But, fortunately, that is not God’s will. He is so loving and merciful, he made a way for you to be forgiven. The Son of God came down as a man, Jesus Christ, and lived a perfect, sinless life, so was the perfect sacrifice. He excruciatingly suffered and died on the cross to pay the FULL debt we owe because of sin; justice is fully done. You and I broke God's law and Jesus paid the fine in his life's blood, being resurrected again 3 days later. That’s why he said “It is finished” on the cross - in other words the debt has been paid. God has the payment ready to go for you. What you need to do is repent (recognising you are a sinner deserving God's punishment, turn to Him) and trust ALONE in Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins. Our works can do nothing as by the standard of God’s moral law we fail, but faith in him is enough to save us from all sin - past, present and future! Then though you have grievously offended God, he will forgive you and you will inherit eternal life being reborn in the Holy Spirit when you put your trust in the Lord and saviour. Too, you enter a covenant relationship with God - sonship, and truly I tell you your life will change in his presence. So repent and trust (i.e. Biblical faith), receive the free gift of grace.
      He redeemed me. God, The King of The Universe, came down as a man. He lived the first 30 years of his life as a poor carpenter then spent the next 3 preaching, healing and saving souls - all the while being persecuted, insulted and hated by his own people - and took the punishment to save our lives. It’s the most amazing love that anyone ever displayed. Christianity’s not just a religion. It's a pure, sweet relationship with God. Because of Jesus, I am now a son of God. He is my dad, and you can be his child too. God loves you. Will you let him come?. . .. . .. . .

I've had a man tell me that a hundred handed goddess healed his skin cancer and blessed his friend with a career as a teacher after an unfulfilling life in finance after she converted to his religion. I've also met a Native American person who celebrated the gods and traditions of her people. I've been to a banquet for a Buddhist charity that served the most amazing vegan dishes. Their founder provided a fantastic piece of wisdom. One should give not once a month, but just a little bit once a day. Cultivating a spirit of generosity and giving lies in the practice of daily charity, not as a passing thought once a month. My mother has met a person who could see ghosts. Her daughter could too. I have friends who are Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Sikh, and Hindi. All of which engage in pretty cool practices and traditions. You are definitely free to believe whatever you want, but please remember to keep an open mind and explore the beautiful cultures this world has to offer.

    • @vreedlak7268
      @vreedlak7268 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really Maria hi, where in the Supreme Court decision does it state that? IT DOESN'T STATE THAT AT ALL.
      The only thing the Supreme Court decision stated was that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission's public hostility towards religion showed bias against Jack Phillips - so SCOTUS invalidated the decision. SCOTUS didn't remotely rule whether Jack Phillips (or any other commercial bakery) can refuse to do wedding cakes for same sex couples in violation of anti-discrimination law.
      This is straight from the decision:
      " The official expressions of hostility to religion in some of the commissioners’ comments-comments that were not disavowed at the Commission or by the State at any point in the proceedings that led to affirmance of the order-were inconsistent with what the Free Exercise Clause requires. The Commission’s disparate consideration of Phillips’ case compared to the cases of the other bakers suggests the same. For these reasons, the order must be set aside.
      The Commission’s hostility was inconsistent with the First Amendment’s guarantee that our laws be applied in a manner that is neutral toward religion. Phillips was entitled to a neutral decision maker who would give full and fair consideration to his religious objection as he sought to assert it in all of the circumstances in which this case was presented, considered, and decided. In this case the adjudication concerned a context that may well be different going forward in the respects noted above. *However later cases raising these or similar concerns are resolved in the future*, for these reasons the rulings of the Commission and of the state court that enforced the Commission’s order must be invalidated. The outcome of cases like this in other circumstances must await further elaboration in the courts, all in the context of recognizing that these disputes must be resolved with tolerance, without undue disrespect to sincere religious beliefs, and without subjecting gay persons to indignities when they seek goods and services in an open market."

      Blostin Yup. I love that part in the Bible where Jesus said you shouldn't make cakes for gay people. It's not like the biggest message in the Gospels was to love and care for all people.

    • @B.A.B.G.
      @B.A.B.G. 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Actually the biggest message in Gospels as you call it was to believe in the Son of God who came to save us from our sins. "Whosoever believes and is baptized shall be saved and whosoever doesn't shall be condemned."
      The same Jesus, who said: "Judge not lest ye be judged" also said what you read two lines above, you can find it in Mark 16:16.
      In John 3:18 it says: "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
      This is written in red, you know? These are the words of Jesus.
      Why all this, for you probably unnecessary and boring, scripture?
      Well, if what you are saying is actually true that merely human love and caring was the biggest message of the gospel, Jesus died in vain. There would no need for Christ to ever come to earth and die for us, because humans should know to love and care for all people. Even if they don't do it, but we've had philosophers and basic education in a civilized world to teach us that for thousands of years.
      Having said that Jesus did say "love thy neighbor as thyself" it is the second great commandment and comparable to the first, no questions asked.
      Now, I challenge you to prove to me that Jesus in any of the gospels or the whole Bible emphasized human love and solidarity as the most important thing. The Bible says a lot on how to behave towards one another and to love and support your fellow man (even your enemies), but that is not the meat of the gospel. Otherwise you may as well read any "How to..." book or any publication of a philosopher, great thinker etc.
      May I suggest you read the bible for yourself, before using it to support your opinion?

    • @Joe-bu6uz
      @Joe-bu6uz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jacques Dablah While I was raised Catholic and have studied the Bible in Catholic school, I should admit that I am no expert on the text. To truly understand the Bible one must also know about its historical context and its human authors, topics that are widely debated by scholars. What I do know is how the Bible makes me feel, and as with any other book, it allows for human interpretation. One must find a way to interpret the Bible, because as you have just outlined with those quotes, there is much hypocrisy in it. To deny God is to be damned to suffering, yet God is merciful, tolerant, and accepting of his children? I see the Gospel, Jesus' ministry and death, as a transition from the traditional ideas of a angry god to the more modern ideas of a loving God, a God who wants the best for his creation on earth, a God who does not set arbitrary laws, but laws that humans can understand, laws that are practical in effect and have visible consequences. It's not for us to speak on God's behalf. That has been a trend of humanity for thousands of years, a trend that must end. If God is the sole Judge of right and wrong, than why do we discriminate against people for a very inherent part of their existence? We should not take that seat in His chair. It is time for us to stop placing politics in our religion, and religion in our politics.

      But, what exactly did he win? During the appeals process, he elected to remove wedding cakes (40% of the business) from the bakery's menu and then fired 6 employees as a result. If the bakery starts making wedding cakes again, another gay couple can come in and ask for a wedding cake and the whole process will start all over again.
      The Supreme Court ruling DID NOT state that he has a right to refuse to treat gay customers differently. The only thing the Supreme Court ruled was that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission's show of public hostility towards religion showed unfair bias towards Jack Phillips - so it vacated the the ruling against the bakery.

      +Jean Kennedy It's not child abuse to raise a child to hold religious beliefs. To suggest that is to say that the vast majority of people on the planet are engaging in child abuse. Just because you don't agree with his beliefs, it doesn't mean he's abusive. Given his behavior, calm demeanor and his actions, I would say he's raising his children to treat people with kindness and respect. Not wanting to participate in a single event that he considers a sin is not equal to abuse.
      Refusing to take on a custom order is not the same as refusing service. Businesses refuse custom orders all the time, for a variety of reasons.

    • @hara_neilson4931
      @hara_neilson4931 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Jean Kennedy 'If you deliberately fill an innocent child's head with supernatural and hateful bullshit, that's child abuse.'
      So you're intolerant toward people having different opinions. Uh oh I guess that makes you a bigot.
      'It's not "participating in the event" if all he does is make a cake'
      Uh, yes it is. It would've been him enabling a gay wedding to take place.
      'And if he thinks it's a "sin", he's wrong. Love between two adult human beings, especially two who want to make a life-long commitment to each other, is HARDLY "a sin".'
      Again, that's your opinion, there is no objective truth. Not that I believe it's a sin myself either, but it's Jack's opinion we care about here since it's his story not yours.
      'He could have easily said, "Oh sorry, I'm booked solid that month and couldn't get to your order in time." '
      And again, your opinion. Who are you to decide what he should've done? He acted the way he acted, whether that was right or wrong and it doesn't matter what you think he should've done.

    • @ohfortheloveofguacamole6803
      @ohfortheloveofguacamole6803 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Jean Kennedy You clearly don't know what child abuse is. Has he hit the child? Has he kicked the child? Has he picked up that child and shaken him until he was physically harmed? Has he put his hands on the child in a sexual manner? Does he attack the child for speaking his opinions or publicly shamed the child? Given his strong belief in Christian values and his mild-mannered way of talking, I find it doubtful that he has engaged in any action that is considered child abuse. There is no evidence that he has done so. You are making an accusation just because he doesn't believe the same thing you do. All parents teach their children according to their own beliefs.
      Making a cake is participation in the event. It's literally spending hours of his time creating something. And when it comes to a cake for a wedding, it's also going to the venue and setting up the cake, so yes, he would have been at the event as well.
      You opinion regarding who people choose to engage with sexually is your own opinion. Not everyone shares your belief.

      +Jean Kennedy Since you know nothing about me, your assumption that I don't know what abuse is kinda makes me laugh. I've been the victim of childhood abuse, as have my siblings. I spent most of my teen years working with victims of abuse. I know what it looks like. That child does not look, in any way, that he has been abused or harmed in any manner. You are making baseless accusations based on your own bias against Christians.
      Why are you even assuming that the child is gay? Only about 3% of the population are gay. And "harming his self-esteem"? Really? You don't even know what this guy's church teaches, but you make assumptions based on the fact that he's Christian and doesn't want to create a CUSTOM order for a gay wedding. He didn't even refuse service. He just refused a custom order.
      You are basically saying "It's OK to enslave this man, because I disagree with his beliefs and don't like religious people." You cannot COMPEL people to produce something they do not want to produce. He also DID NOT "disrespect" or "insult" those two men. All he said was "no, I'm not going to make a custom cake for your wedding." The courts already determined that he was respectful and polite. He didn't act in a demeaning or rude manner. He said he would sell them any cake already made in the store. That is not an example of prejudice, but you certainly are showing that YOU have prejudice against religious people. Do you act the same toward Muslims? How about Hindus? Jews? Jains? Buddhists? Shintos?
      You're arguing for slavery. This man DID NOT give the two gay men any kind of advice. He didn't treat them in a negative manner. He didn't even say "I don't like gay people" or anything like that, though he is within his rights to say whatever the hell he wants. All he said was "no, I won't make a custom cake for this particular event."
      You are taking a rules for thee, but not for me stance.Telling others what to do while you do not engage in the same behavior is hypocrisy. You demand courtesy and respect while treating others with disdain and a complete lack of basic courtesy. You've painted all Christians, regardless of their actions, with the broad stroke of "they must be prejudiced".

      Jonny Sevent : Bullshit. He's not bigoted at all.
      He refused a Cake for a wedding. He refused respectfully, and honestly. It was a conflict to his Faith. The guys wanting the cake should have just respected that.
      I would have just taken their money.
      BTW my sister is married to a Lesbian Jew with Dreadlocks. Is very well known to the alphabet community as a promoter and producer of pride festivals internationally. (Since the Eighties)
      Has always had my full support. Until now. Many in that community do not seem to get being tolerant is a two way street and people like myself didn't defend them because we agree with them. We're against bigoted intolerant people which many of them have become. (I am especially against them pushing degenerate crap on kids.)
      So, fuck them. Go team baby Jesus.

      Jonny Sevent : You know nothing of my Religion. In fact I have had my own issues with Christians of the Fundamental variety. That's why it's kind of easy for me to be a little light with my reference to the Prophet Jesus Christ. I am a fan. Not a Christian.
      And it's not the issue either way. Your titles your party's any form of devisive distraction you have mean jack shit to me.
      It's a Private business. Not a Corporate entity not a big chain grocery store that a locally situated group would be dependent on.
      Just a small privately owned business and he should be able to refuse service to anyone he chooses really. More importantly in this case it was his religious belief. It may suck, may not like it but that's reality, to protect the rights of all you have respect the rights of those you don't agree with.
      Compromise.
      (Funny how much you come off like one of those backwater Bible thumpers. They should burn in Hell!!!! You speak in tongues?)

      6/17/18, This is all so stupid, I must tell you. Phillips isn't practicing/participating in anyone's alt lifestyle, he's simply offering up a product for a price. He can practice his religion off-hrs. Somebody comes into his shop, known to him, lets say, Phillips doesn't approve of the person/ppl "shacking up," so he refuses service? The Supremes (7/2) erred on this one, so did Colorado statute.

      Jennifer Loving Yes this was a great day in religious freedom. All of you haters need to learn what was really happening. The baker couldn’t make the two gay guys a Wedding Cake because of his beliefs. He did offer to make them a nice basic cake without the traditional wedding symbols and design like most wedding cakes. The two gay guys refused and therefore were going to destroy him and his business. They failed and lost. Christianity freedom won.

    Thankfully we got 2 more conservatives on the court.
    Regardless of how things play out in the future, and they will get worse, the highest court in the Universe is God's court.
    Jesus first came as a savior, and will come again as a judge.
    At the name of Jesus every knee will bow.
    He now extends his mercy and grace, but one day it will be too late.
    "Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
    let him return to the Lord, that He may have compassion on him,
    and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." Isaiah 55:6-7

      @song9119 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Aleck Finnian depends what type of business. A gas station needs to serve everyone, as opposed to an artist doesn’t need to paint for all customers. A Jewish painter doesn’t have to draw a portrait of Hitler if he didn’t want to, and there nothing one can do to force him to.
      Artists, painters, speech writers, musicians and singers, sculptures, designers, printing firms, can pick and choose their customers as long as things are done in respectful manner.
      I don’t find this so difficult to understand.

    • @song9119
      @song9119 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aleck Finnian the Supreme Court obviously didn’t think so.
      If I had a printing store that sold pre-printed Thank you cards or pre-printed birthday cards to anyone that walks into the store, it doesn’t mean I must print custom invitations for every type of event if it conflicts with my beliefs.
      The stuff of the shelves are available to everyone, while custom prints are my choice to design and print.

    • @song9119
      @song9119 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aleck Finnian we will need to see how they rule in future cases.
      But I don’t believe a printing store that sells pre-printed cards to everyone must also accept all types of custom orders.
      One can always go to another printing store that will gladly take that order.

AKA, the Supreme Court is not connected to the trump administration. This was done to keep one man or being from controlling the way others live. Interesting how that works, isn’t it?
