Back in 2014, Ashers Bakery in Belfast hit the headlines for refusing to serve a cake decorated with a same-sex marriage logo on it. The Bakery was initially found to have discriminated, and an appeal found the same judgement. But yesterday the Supreme Court dramatically overruled the initial decision and said that the bakers were within their rights to refuse the cake. We’re joined by radio presenter and gay rights campaigner Cristo Foufas, and Simon Calvert from the Christian Institute to discuss this week's supreme court ruling.
    Broadcast on 11/10/18.

I'm just wondering if a gay person owned a bakery and if someone ordered an anti-gay style cake that was very offensive to them but a portion of society accepts it, would they be allowed to refuse to make this cake? It's an interesting situation....I think that they would refuse to make the cake and society and the court system would back them up.... so it should go both ways right?

I have moved back and forth on this issue and I have decided I am more in favour of free speech. I’m gay and I would defend a person’s right to call me anything under the sun.

I support the baker 100%.... but if the Dem/Lib court forces him to make the Dem/Lib cake, then he should make it with NO sugar and lots of salt.... The cake should be so horrible that the Dems & Libs will choose a different baker..... SPREAD THE WORD!!

So if he asked for a chocolate eclair and they refused because he was gay, that would be acceptable?

@@jackcarter5101 That's not the same at all. Their issue was that the cake they were asked to make went against their beliefes and conscience. It's not that complicated.

3:10 Regardless of where you stand on this case, how can you seriously make that comparison? One is an anti-discrimination message, based on the scientifically irrefutable way in which you are born. The other is a pro-discrimination message, based on a 2000 year old fairy tale about a magic man in the sky.

Ashers refusal to bake the cake was in their right to do so. If you're gay and you don't like Ashers ethos, go to another bakery. Short and simple!
